Will we ever see a true "Psycoaster"

So it's doubtful...

Oh! Well what I was asking is will anybody create a ride
that suceeds where Saw and Thirteen failed?

Everybody gets scared of, and has phobias, of different things.
I'm sure Kingda Ka would be one of the scariest coasters to anyone who is scared of heights or/and speed, whereas anybody who is scared of the dark would be petrified of X:/No Way Out.

The worlds scariest coaster already exists to many people.

Well it depends on the person and what their idea of being brainraped is.
For some people, a piece of coaster track collapsing is total psychological torment. For others, dangling over the edge of a 205 foot vertical drop is total psychological torment. Hell, for some going through a single loop is that. So in all honesty, they've been being made for a long time.

I'd love to see some coaster/ride that has a section that really affects your mind. Kinda like what Derren Brown does but in some indoor coaster section that tricks you into thinking something terrible is happening. :)

Even something like a go gator with so much as a photo of Derren Brown on it would be ****ing terrifying to me

Sorry, did I say terrifying? I meant terrible.

The first inside drop on SAW always does it for me! I don't know why either just always does.

Also to the guy who said Alton & Thorpe failed, have they? Have they really? Because I know plenty of people who will not go anywhere near Oblivion or SAW.

On the subject of saw aswell it's quite obviously not meant to be a 'Physcoaster' as it's based around a film, and the SAW films are completley fictional.

The only way I can think of to genuinely frighten people is to put a screamer in the ride saftey video.

All the points made here are good. I don't think there will be One Ride to Scare Them All [/LotR].

But the most valid point, worth reiterating was made by UC. Parks don't actually want to turn their guests into gibbering wrecks of terror. They want to thrill their guests which sometimes involves hinting and terror and then making everything okay a few seconds later. A true "psycoaster" (if possible) would not make everything okay again. If it was truly petrifying the guests wouldn't just get over it as they left the station it could scar them for life and that is not good for the park business, not wanting to be cynical either; i'm sure the park management don't want to actually harm anyone anyway.

I've just thought of a genuine Psychoaster!!!!! The Ghost Train at PBB! It is a cred (just ask Ben/Jake, hahahaha!) and it scares the crap out of me!

No? Not convinced? Hmmmmm

Right, now for the actual, sensible post.

Mazes/Horror walkthroughs scare the life out of me. I've never done any of the Thorpe ones, and I refuse to go to London Dungeons. Hell, even Hocuspocus Hall Live scared the crap out of me, and that's aimed at 7 year olds! At Thorpe fright nights you frequently see people running out of the exits screaming their heads off, and people talking about how scary it was.

This all proves that parks can do it. They can create a an attraction which gives a psychological thrill. We also know that they can create coasters which give a great physical thrill. The question is, will anyone ever be able to combine the two?

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Revenge of the Mummy(s). You know, the coasters that were advertised as psychological thrill rides years before Alton came up with the idea :p

Th13teen is just... budget Mummy. It's cool, but, both Mummys pwn it.

In fact, I think there's a strong case to be made for the fact that the Mummy coasters are the closest we've got to a true "Psycoaster". They're not terrifying, but, they're a lot, lot, lot closer than Th13teen.

Revenge of the Mummy Florida also has Brendan Fraser <3

Ahem...

Talking to my flat-mate at uni, Thirteen could terrify him due to the dropping, the darkness, and the backwards portion... So it will work on some people, just not really coaster enthusiasts...

It's worrying though when a 10 year ride still plays with your mind more (Hex)...

Yeah, that's a point that was made in the opinions topic about Thirteen as well - the fact that enthusiasts routinely stroll up to 400+ ft. rides and coasters that will do everything from launch you to tilt you vertical.

That being said, the fact that there were supposedly quite a few non-enthusiasts left scratching their heads about Thirteen does give at least some credence to the notion that it wasn't exactly a "theme" that was pulled off very well...

...and I'm sure there are just as many people that get terrifed of the drop on Oblivion.

Yeah but ever time I look at a POV of 13 I shake my head and say, I hope someone does thsis better?

As someone mentioned in the Live trip reports Oblivion was promoted as a fear roller coaster, that you would die and dissapear after going in the hole
