What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not?

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

My biggest heartbreak was Bizzaro at Six Flags New England. I'm quite tall, and sometime in the years between Superman: Ride of Steel and Bizarro, a maximum height requirement was added to the ride. I had traveled across the country, and was specifically dreaming of this magical airtime machine that had been top rated forever... and the answer was no.

I think it had to do with the man who was ejected from the ride. He wasn't tall at all, he was just round but... having an overall size limit is a lot more PR friendly than just a girth limit. I sat in the tester seat and the light turned green with plenty of room to spare. My head was against the headrest.

I was really looking forward to the Pirate water ride at Drayton Manor as someone told me is was a fairly decent rip off of Disney's Pirates Of The Caribbean, was unfortunately shut for maintenance and I doubt ill be there again this season

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

I've been fairly lucky as I've either been able to go back and ride the coaster/go to the park if I was spited.

However, I did miss Xcelerator at Knotts due to the very long line earlier this year as well as missing Darien Lake due to rain last week.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Tower of Terror was down for extended refurbishments when I was at Gold Reef City and I'm still not over it.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Nothing heartbreaking thankfully, but a few:

Odyssey: Doesn't open at Easter  I'm sure I'm not alone with this one.

Stinger: I knew about this beforehand. Was closed pretty much all of last season I believe.

Superman - Escape from Krypton: First time I went to SFMM, too scared. Second time, closed because Lex Luther was being built.

Matterhorn Bobsleds: Being refurbished on our visit. Quite disappointed about this one actually.

Racing (Bakken): Closed for some reason.

Space Mountain Mission 2: Same as Matterhorn

Race (Prater): Same as Racing

That's all I can think have at the moment for coasters

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

I did a 4 days-trip to the UK last year, and the credit I looked forward to the most (The Ultimate) was closed. Some mayor problem with the lifthill I guess, it took a few days to re-open.

On my only visit to Chessington 2 years ago non of the coasters or outdoor rides opened. It was during the extreme cold and snowy March of 2013 though.

Missed a few other creds, but nothing to important.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Quite a let down at an otherwise great park was that I was not allowed to ride the Intamin Invert Tornado at Parque De Attraciones Madrid last year. I has a ridiculous max height of 1,82 meters. I rode the Intamin Invert at Sarkeniemmi in Turku, Finland which had a max height restriction of 1,95 meters...

Bit of an odd one, as i've been on it, and i'm taller than that. They must've dropped the height limit in recent years, as it was 2007 when I went. You've not missed much anyway...

The most annoying miss-outs I can think of were when we planned a trip to Belgium & Holland years ago, timed to check out some new rides. We already knew beforehand of the difficulties surrounding Vertigo at Walibi Belgium, so knew we were missing out on that. We did get a behind the scenes tour sorted though, which given how little that thing actually ran, was worth having. Little did we know though that we'd miss out on the other new ride of our trip too, which was Vliegender Hollander at Efteling, which seemingly hadn't opened when we got there either. So, we travelled over there, saw both rides, but got to ride neither.

A year later, we also missed out on the Zacspin at Terra Mitica the year that opened too, as it was down the day we were there.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

I went to Flamingoland when I was about 9. Being 9, I didn't have the required height for the biggest rides, so I missed out. Fast forward to my next visit to Flamingoland, for the CF-Live in 2006... the year after Bullet and Magnum Force were removed. Spite :(

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

I have to admit, drop towers have always intimidated me and Ive never rode one. Back in April, I wanted to make Detonator my first because its pretty short and everyone loves it but it was closed for maintenance :(

At least Im going to Drayton Manor in the summer holidays, Im making myself ride Apocalypse (both sitdown and stand up floorless) plus Im actually really excited to finally ride Maelstrom and Air Race!

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Tower of terror in camelot. Every time i visited it was broken down or nor running due to crap weather.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Son of Beast. Saw a POV way back when and actually thought that it looks awesome and wanted to ride it. Will never be able to.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Stupid ass Cannibal at Lagoon, opened a few days after my trip....

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

For me, its Shockwave at Six Flags Over Texas. They were repainting it when I was there. Havent been back since. Other notables were Ghostrider at Knotts which was down when I visited in 2008, but managed to ride it in 2014 and Iron Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas on New years Eve 2014. The whole park closed early due to cold temperatures (yeah I know in Texas !!). However did manage to get there 3 days later just to ride Iron Rattler...

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

I've had a few notable ones, but nothing that's too heartbreaking,

GIB at Parque Warner - Closed most of the day due to rain. I'm not that upset as I've done the one at SFNE.

Intimidator 305, Dominator - The plan was to spend 2 hours at KD after Busch to grab the 'quality' coasters before closing. Upon arrival there was a tropical storm and the most riculous lightning I've ever seen. Suffice to say we didn't even get out the car. I'll be back in the very near future no doubt so I'm not that upset.

Arkansas Twister (+4) - To split up the drive between Branson & Texas we planned to visit Magic Springs, but Upon arrival Arkansas Twister was down for maintenance. Ben & the girls decided to go in anyway and grab the +4 available (SLC, Maurer Skyloop, Mine train and a kiddie) I decided that I didn't want to put myself through the emotional & physical pain of riding 4 awful clones so I stayed in the car and saved myself $50. I'm annoyed to miss the woodie, especially as it'll be a few years before I'm near Arkansas but I don't regret missing the +4 at all.

+3 at Lakemont Park - See Ian's post. We also failed to even make it into Del Grosso's a few hours earlier due to rain.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

I went to Sea World San Antonio during December of 2013. I ran across the park to Steel Eel only to see it was closed until 4:00 I had to make it to a flight back home at around 6:00 so we needed to leave prior so only got on the kiddie coaster two times and Journey To Atlantis four times. Turns out, the flight got delayed until 7:30 so we could've waited, but by the time we heard about the flight, we had already left the park.

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

Goliath at sfne... I was really looking forward to it too, but it was closed *runs away crying*

Re: What is a ride that you wanted to ride but you could not

When I went to Alton Towers earlier this year Smiler was closed (but this was in April). Also missed out on most of the coasters at Disneyland Paris (Rock n Rollercoaster, Space Mountain and Indiana Jones (I was 9 or 10) - mostly due to being terrified of them.

Also Vampire at Chessington was closed when I went about 12 years ago or so. I've not ridden Kiddi Koasta (or however it is spelt) to avoid embarrassment.
