What's new

What has been your most successful year as an enthusiast?

This year... by one credit. 😁
I got 80 new coasters in 2018 but thanks to Hyperia earlier this week my total for this year is now 81, so boom to that!
Not surprisingly, 2018 and 2024 featured big US road trips, which is always a good boost for the cred count.

I'll have to say 1999. I discovered internet forums, so I wanted to ride the coasters everyone was talking about. I had my first visits to Fantasy Island, Pleasure Island, Alton Towers, Southport Pleasureland and Blackpool Pleasure Beach that year.

In 2006 i've done the most new coasters. It was because of my tour through California, Arizona and Nevada. It gave me 38 new credits that year

This year! I normally do like 2 parks in a year if I'm lucky but I did 6 this time round and got 22 new creds. Only one abroad though, compared to the two last year, and only half of the parks were new to me, but all the ones that weren't had something new. Hoping to cross the 100 mark next year as I have less than 20 creds to go!

My coaster reawakening began in the summer of 2021. I started the year 2022 with 97 credits. in Oct of 2022, I got my 200th credit. I forget exactly what the total for the calendar year ended up being, but it was at least 120 new credits.

I went to Knotts, KI, KD, BGW, Michigan's Adventure, Holiday World, Indiana Beach, Kentucky Kingdom, Kennywood, SFNE, SF America, Carowinds, Canada's Wonderland, Waldameer, Darien Lake, and Nick U American Dream, all for the first time that year. I also went to SWO, fun spots, and BGT in the first week of 2023. Including those I prob hit over 140 new credits in a 365 day span. It was wild. I've since toned it down but not by much.

For a long time, sentimental old fool that I am, I'd have said 2009. In addition to sort of coming of age (as those of you who know me well are sick to death of hearing), this and 2010 were also the years when I made some great friends through this forum (one now my brother in law, another I travelled with this year)did a great deal of travelling with them, taking in Germany, Denmark and Italy and notching up 54 creds, including Lynet, Colossos and the mighty Katun. Looking through the list, there weren't actually all that many great coasters, but I've got some memories that will go to the grave with me. I also rode Sequoia Adventure, which I'm glad went to the grave long before I did - and now I think about it, the vekoma at Gardaland spited my phone as well...

@peep made an awesome video compilationof his 2010 season that I still occasionally watch when I'm feelingdown:

"Richard, Richard, RIchard...I KILL YOU!"

I made a few abortive attempts at beating this season - most notably my first foray into North America in 2015 and a cred run down under in 2018, as well as a few solo trips in 2017, but without going into too much boring detail, after a few years of sobriety between 2010-3, my drinking had started to get in the way again. I was beginning to believe my coaster 'career' had peaked...

...then this year happened. I'd started writing about it, and before I knew where I was, I was over 1,000 words in.

So that will go in another topic when it's finished.

(I pasted this and the punctuation has gone wappy)
