What's new

Viper at SFGA will run backwards starting July 8th

What the hell is going on? What is it with parks turning all the coaster trains around this year? I don't understand any more. I'm going to go sit in a corner and pretend the coaster world is still normal.

It's a gimmick, that works pretty well in my opinion. Colossus backwards is about one million times better than it forward. Not being able to see adds another aspect to the ride. I wonder if American eagle will run one side backwards or both.

The airtime on this thing is great forwards, backwards it'll be absolutely amazing!

I also get the backwards Eagle cred.

I have mixed feelings because I love how Viper is a walk on about 50% of the time I'm at the park.

So b doing it twice they killed it? Makes sense.
Not being silly but with Swarm also and they're going to do two or three other Batmans. Yeah, to me.

Only the SFGAm Batman has it, and it ends the day before this one starts.

And yeah, Snoo, those trims killed the ride completely!

More power to folks who have the stomach to ride backwards!

I find the notion of backward rides very intriguing. They are a cheap way to add new thrill to amusement parks that can turn out rather popular.

The Racer at Kings Island famously ran a side backwards for 25 years until 2007 - a staple thrill to the amusement park. The reason the Racer ran backwards initially was actually to cover up for the enormous maintenance problems KI faced with the Bat. Guests would visit to ride the world's first suspended roller coaster, but became disgruntled when it had broken down (coughSmilercough). To compensate, Kings Island turned the Racer around.

At any rate; yes it is gimmicky, cheap, and not a new ride. That is the point! Take it at face value, and ride it if you can.

I will say one thing about backwards coasters: Mr. Freeze works insanely well backwards: especially front row.

I know SFGA was running one track of American Eagle backward when I went to the park when I was a kid, i didn't know they stopped. Also I remember being at King's Dominion right before freshman year of high school and not having the stomach to do Rebel Yell backwards. I can't believe 2007 was so long ago!!

They did Eagle backwards in 2011 for the first time in a while and then they didn't run the Blue side for the majority of 2012. Blue is operational this year and will be backwards again.
