As for the "why would they have wood" question. Maybe it's just possibly because wood is one of the most common building materials for pretty much any construction or repair work?

Yes exactly. That's what gavin is saying. It is almost certainly new wood to repair any of the dozens of wooden buildings or structures in the park.

I had a look at the supposed construction under Shockwave today. All they're doing is building a new bamboo mesh fence around the rapids. Nothing more exciting than that:

Come on. Does anyone actually think that Drayton would have started construction on a Woodie without; anyone spotting the planning permission or being able to find it now, any sort of advertising or teaser hype, or enough wood to actually do it... and with one digger?

The original rumour may still stand, and it'd be a great addition to the park. But that ^^ isn't it.
