Yeah, this is the kind of thinking that causes trouble, Tamar.

Tamar? I was just saying that they look like they'll restrict airtime unless u can manage a few inches in between yourself and the restraint.. It's not like, dangerous or anything, unless you're like Jerry who pretends he's as fat as Santa and gets like, five feet between the restraint and his lap :P

Not dangerous.. Yeh there must have been some other reason behind that stupid woman falling out on Raven then?

^ Oh okay, so nobody else on here tries to get slack between their restraints? Because almost everyone I know tries to do it.. But of course I'm the only one considered an "idiot".

I didn't say i've never done it, and nor has anyone else. The fact still remains that by doing something like purposely keeping the restraint from fully doing it's job you're endangering yourself.

Regardless of what anyone says, these trains are starting to look cool. If the new lapbars are as comfortable as GCI's, then I WANT them :P

I think I know that.. So like I said, why are you telling me and not the other bazillion people on this site who do it? And also, leaving an inch or two of space is HARDLY endangering yourself.. As skinny as people say I am, my body is NOT fitting through two inches of space.

I think that the new trains look comfy and not that ugly, maybe its just me. I get what you guys are arguing about but there is a differenc between a gap that'll make you leave your seat a little and a gap that'll let you fly out the restraint. There's a calculated risk and then there is idiocy.

Gotta be honest. They are horrible. The restraints look nasty. Those side things look nasty and are too high up. Makes the seats look too caged in. There will be no freedom to get thrown about by the looks of it. Making it smooth would surely defeat the point of a woodie?

Nope.

I don't like to be stapled, but to me that means when a ride attendant pushes the lap bar further down than is comfortable.

If the lap bar or OTSR is touching me and/or the seat belt is snug, I am 100% ok with that.

I don't insert a fist under the bar, slide forward in the seat, push my stomach out, or any of the other tricks people try to get that extra space between the restraint system and myself.

Maybe it comes from working rides, or maybe just a self-preservation instinct thing, but I don't need to be floating off the seat to know when I'm feeling negative G's.

The alternative, especially when taken to the extreme, is just not conducive to our hobby.

I'm not picking on you specifically, and I wasn't trying to say that you are an idiot. You simply said something that struck a sore point for me. I know PLENTY of other people do it too.

It is my opinion that anyone who makes attempts to reduce the effectiveness of any safety device, and not just on coasters or other rides, is being a fool.

Sorry to be so long winded, but I felt that you deserved an adequate explanation.

Back on the topic:

I think they look cool, but where the heck is the zero car?

Chris, notice I said "almost everyone", not everyone? I'm sure not everyone does it, and there's even coasters I won't dare do it on, like El Toro for instance. Hell to the no am I gonna try to get a gap on that.. I value my life thank you very much, but if it's something like maybe Diamondback or Behemoth, I'll try to get just maybe a half inch or so just so I'm not stapled and uncomfortable. Magnum too, I can get a reasonable gap and it's completely safe.. I wasn't doing it like the woman on Raven who stood up and had the restraint basically open.

I'm planning a trip back there next summer, so bring 'em on. And fool that I am, I won't be going for that extra space that I go for on B&M floaters. There's a huge difference between a floater and this baby.
Plus you can get a surprising amount of air on some trains that you would think isn't possible. The x-cars on HRRR provide lots of air-time in spite of those lock-down restraints, much to my delight.

I hate the cars... Honestly... They don't look wooden coaster like... They look like weirdly shaped X-Cars...

Millenium Flyers and PTCs ftw... Also Buzz-bars can be involved in this win as well...

It probably gives great freedom and what-not like the Intamin lap-bars, but the cars are such ugly it's just really off-putting...
