The Voyage to get Timberliners!!

It have been announced that Holiday Park are swapping their PTC trains for new GG Timberliner Trains for the 2010 season. How much will the ride change with this development, smoother, faster or what??

Wonder how this will change the status of the Voyage of a top ranking ride...

Koch says the Timberliner’s wheels are engineered to steer through curves as they move along the coaster track, creating a smoother ride and less wear and tear on the track. The seats are ergonomically designed for greater comfort, including an exclusive seat-suspension design. The padded seats will also accommodate wider-hipped and longer-legged riders.

“Since the trains will ‘track’ better, riders will experience a much smoother
Voyage,” says Koch. “That also means there will be less ‘rolling friction,’ so the ride will quite possibly be even faster when it reopens in May.” The Gravity Group’s engineers tested a prototype Timberliner at Holiday World last spring.

The Voyage is 1.2 miles long and provides a record 24.2 seconds of “air time.” This steel-structure wooden coaster, ranked the #1 Wooden Coaster in the World by Amusement Today for three years running, includes a record five underground tunnels (some are double, creating eight “underground moments”), a series of dramatic drops (including a 66-degree angle of descent on the first drop), three 90-degree banked turns, and multiple track crossovers.

The Voyage’s two new trains, which will each seat 28 riders, will be assembled in Indianapolis. The Gravity Group is headquartered in Cincinnati.

Neat. No loss of rider capacity either, but I don't really see how it can increase rider capacity..

Seems like GG is stealing some GCI ideas..
 
^ I don't think that GG have stolen anything from GCI since there is quite a few single bench trains in the past (Aeroplane coaster, etc.).

The way that they claim that they can increase the capacity of the coaster is that they can load the trains faster then the original PTC's, which means that they can send out the trains closer together thus having higher throughput. But since the coaster is pretty long and I don't see that it would be stacking with only 2 trains then it would only be marginal, unless the trains travel faster around the circuit then it would be a whole other story...
 
They were running one train when I was there a few weeks ago. But then again it wasn't terribly busy. That said, it's interesting to see them reducing the number of trains from 3 to 2. I can't recall them ever running 3 on a regular basis, so I guess it wasn't a big deal. I wonder where the PTCs will go since there's 3 relatively new trains now out of commission. Interesting choice, though-- guess I'm going to have to get up there again sometime!
 
Noo, I want them to keep it exactly as it is.. I'm scared the lap bars will be like the Intamin T-bars and limit airtime. Voyage was amazing as it was, I don't really see the need for new trains just yet.. Maybe in three or four seasons, but I seriously don't find it necessary at this time. It's logical for the stress reduction on the trains I guess, I just really hope it doesn't ruin the out of control and awesome experience the ride provides..
 
The new trains do look very comfortable and I'm sure they will ride much better than the bulky PTCs. But they have a weird look to them, I'm afraid the trains will look kind of ugly in signature shots. If it does, who cared,I'd much rather have a better ride experience than a better looking ride. Also, I'm going to Holiday World next year, and I can't wait to ride Voyage with these new Timberliners. I haven't been to Holiday World since 2001 and so I haven't ridden Voyage yet (I have ridden Raven & Legend though) I just wish I could of ridden Voyage with the PTC's just to know how they compare.
 
Well.. the good comes with the bad. How will they ride? How will they compare to the PTC's? Less airtime? More airtime?

Hopefully I'll go down next year to see.
 
The trains are fugly and I'm curious about those restraints. They look like they could either be as free as S&S's lapbars, or as restrictive as MS's on their x-cars.
 
^ It seems like they're gonna be those ones where the restraint comes down and like, suffocates you if you don't push your belly out when the ride ops push it down. I expect if you can get away with getting lots of space between you and the restraint, it will be awesome, because unlike certain other coaster's restraints, I don't think they'll like, fall down easily (like GCI's for example).
 
Great news. If only I could have ridden the ride next year...

With these trains and Voyage's layout, I can definitely see the ride getting the #1 wooden coaster in the world title back.
 
Either way, I don't think the airtime should be too affected.. as it was already quite awesome with the PTC's.

I guess we'll have to wait to see how these ride tho.

But those look like they run very smoothly, and that's really all I want from Voyage. I'm not worried about the air-time being affected, but if for some reason it is, it'll still be a great ride.
 
About the capacity. I think those PTCs required an addition seat belt. That takes a lot of time to check if people don't really buckle them before pulling the bar down.

I think these Timberliners will, as someone has stated, be a bit like MSs. Just pull the bar down and it will adjust perfectly to the lap shape. If you only have to check this, it certainly helps checking faster, thus sending trains out a bit faster too.

I have to admit that I'll miss the classic look of the PTC trains on this amazing coaster!
 
I must say, these do look like they'll be rather uglier than the PTC, and there is something to be said for that "classic" look. Am I the only one who always selected classic wooden trains on RCT...?

Anyway saying that, if they're anything like the Millenium Fliers, then there'll be absolutely incredible. MF's are the only trains I've sat in which I'd say beats a B&M for comfort.

Is it me or did it look like that train was struggling to make it round the Raven? Probably just because it's too short and not weighted...
