Staff riding during test runs, eugh!

I've never really done it myself, but I've seen kids ask and be turned away and thought  It seems like a rule that staff have been told to follow, and most follow blindly without stopping to think about the situation to apply some initiative. If staff told guests why they have to do certain things which seem silly, guests would be happier.

Perhaps one reason for Rockit having continual test runs, with riders, was down to adjusting the MCBRs, possibly?

Kraken and Manta, I'm sorry, but that just gets put down to Busch being utterly ridiculously ott about their H&S regs. The guy told us that they couldn't open Kraken yet because it just hit 42f... Yet it was testing, with no visible problems, it's not like it was crawling, and I thought 40 was the magic number? And we all know they can physically run under that, anyway.

If it's making it round the track, with riders, over and over and over again then there is clearly nothing wrong with it. Since, contrary to popular belief, staff don't have magical powers which save them from injury.

yeah thorpe are the same when i was there if you have know one in the que they can get re ride and it didnt matter bout going around as we had clickersso you just re clicked them as new riders

I guess this is an American policy, because It certainly doesn't happen here.

It certainly DOES happen here, you're just never in the park to see it.

Without staff riding it, the insurance is void and we're not allowed to open the attraction to the public. We don't just ride them for the sake of it, we have to make sure there are no trees in the way, any thing that could harm riders and all platforms are clear.

Once the ride has been ridden, a signing-off paper is then signed by the rider and a team leader.

So yes, it happens here, America and all over the world.

edit - whoops, I didn't realise we got through this bit already lol

Well, HRRR has a tendency of valleying in cold weather during test runs. That may have affected things if it were really cold.

And as to the re-rides, at BGA if it's slow and I'm by myself they'll let me re-ride (or at least they don't stop me from doing it if I "forget" to ask. )

Also, how many parks have the stupid rule that you can't reride despite there not being any queue, and want you to leave the ride and go all the way round just because it's standard policy?

Alton I'm sure do this...

Allowing re-rides is very much unwritten about (or at least it was) at Chessie...

I guess re-rides are usually dependant on the operator... Sometimes you would, sometimes you wouldn't... I've let numerous people go around twice on Griffins and Sea Dragons (on the latter god knows why they wanted to go around again ), but for the bigger rides it can sometimes be difficult...

Our rule of thumb was mainly 'if there's space, then yes', which was mostly used on Vampire and Buccaneer...

Thorpe I'm sure someone else will tell you...

Yeah Alton definitely do it, when Oblivion has had absolute no-one in the station but a few people, they still make you go round.

And about Vampire, I remember when I went to Chessie, hardly anyone was there and they said if there is no-one at your gate you can stay in your seat, if not move to another seat.

^ Yeah, Alton are stupidly religious to their no re-ride policy.

Thorpe are, as always, far more reasonable and let you go on provided noone is waiting for the seat. Just common sense really.

I know BGW will let you re-ride without going around if the ride is dead. Most of the time that'll never happen on Griffon or Alpengeist until after closing. It was raining and I was able to ride Loch Ness Monster 8 times in a row without having to get up.

KD depends on the ride and the operator. Stuff like FoF and Volcano you have to go around on.

At SFOT they really don't care if you re-ride as long as there's no line in your row. And even if you move around to a different row they could care less. But since most of the big rides actually always have lines, a re-ride is very unlikely. Especially Mr. Freeze and Titan.

I know for a couple rides at CP (Namely Raptor and TTD), they do it to warm up the ride. I remember Raptor opening late and they did block checking with a half full train.

Other rides it's just to hear things out of the ordinary. Skyride was to check from swaying winds and tower bumping (A cabin should never sway more than a couple inches either way).

That's my experience at least.
