Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Pleasurewood Hills is hinting at a new ride (apologies to PWH, I can't work out how to embed the Facebook post)...

EDIT - I think it's just a new train for Wipeout, but we'll see. I think someone has embedded it for me, so thanks very much for that.

Since Mr Danter took over the pleasure park in 2015 he said he’d spent more than £12m on rides and has spent more money on a new dodgems ride arriving in the coming weeks. He added: "I promised the people of Barry I’d bring the golden days back for them and I believe I’ve achieved that."
Does stuff cost a lot more in Wales? Aspro claiming to have invested £25M at Oakwood (for a couple of small second hand coasters and a Disk'O) and Mr Danter claiming £12M at Barry Island (for an SBF Galaxi and some fairground rides).

Reading this article you'd picture a big thriving park rather than a fairground on the site of a small historic park.

Mr Danter has also said that he’d ideally like to build it on the site of Cardiff Airport, which seems like a non-starter.

If he wants to build a big theme park in Wales, then all power to him; as someone who lives less than an hour from Cardiff, I’d certainly be a very willing beneficiary of a South Wales park built further east than Oakwood!

The once-exclusive Spaceship Earth Lounge at Disney World's Epcot will soon welcome all park visitors. The lounge was previously known as the Siemens VIP Center, which was always attached to Spaceship Earth. It was exclusively used by corporate participants to entertain guests, however, all Disney World visitors will have access to it as soon as this spring. Source

Andy Fuller, Pleasurewood Hills Head of Sales and Marketing has posted this on LinkedIn:

So it’s confirmed, in addition to incredible work bringing the track a new life, the 2.0 of Wipeout will feature a new train. This will come with waist restraints in place of the traditional over the shoulder. We can’t wait to welcome thrill seekers and fun lovers for an exciting season.

Confirming the new train, seems to be the same as Prater's Boomerang. Which I believe is a Schäfer built train.

On my list this year, as we heed Andy Hine's call to support small UK parks this year.

Be good to be reunited with the old girl once again. :)

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari has acquired Santa's Cottages, a 23-acre lakeside resort in Santa Claus. This is the theme park's first acquisition in its 79-year history. The park aims to become a multiday destination by offering fully furnished units and recreational areas, including lakes for cat-and-release fishing, walking trails, playgrounds and a pool. Source
Should make HoliWood Nights even better!

Goudurix has received new trains:

With this and the new spinner it's a big season for PA!
Guess those plans of replacing Goudurix by 2030 have been put on the backburner (or changed to an eventual retrack?)

After nearly 70 years Playland Fresno will be permanently closing in less than a week. Playland opened its gates in 1955, the same year Disneyland opened, and in a social media post, the amusement park says its last day will be this Sunday, January 14. The park, the home of a dragon coaster, ferris wheel, and several kiddie flat rides, will be open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm. On Thursday, January 11, Playland is hosting a Farewell Community Day with $1 admission and $1 train rides for everyone. Source
Just days after news broke that it would be closing its doors for good this past weekend, Playland Fresno announced operator Helm and Sons struck a deal with the Playland board to continue to operate the amusement park for at least another six months. The park is expanding its days of operation from Wednesday through Sunday with extended hours and will offer new specials for guests, including a flat $5 admission on Thursdays. Source
That didn't go well. I posted those on January 10th/16th and it's already been announced that the park will permanently close on March 30th due to financial difficulties under its current vendor. The Storyland-Playland board is exploring options for a new vendor again, but I don't see that happening this time.
Not the way you want to celebrate your 70th anniversary. Source

Arkansas Twister at Magic Springs is done.

1992 - 2024
I've been trying to return to film at the park for a decade, but their PR guy keeps refusing to allow it. I wanted a mounted POV, but he's a corporate type who came from a chain park and claims it takes too long to mount a camera (40-60 minutes). Here's the one I filmed when I used to duct tape to my hand, which the park didn't have a problem with back then. 😆
