Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Info smells bad. There’s no other source online to back this up and the article quotes a bunch of fake and conveniently named Twitter accounts. Am afraid we have all been had.
I got the information from the daily IAAPA newsletter, so I hope they know more than the article would suggest. Otherwise, they need to do a better job before publishing.

Follow-up statement from IAAPA:
Dear IAAPA Members,

We want to address an issue with Friday's edition of News Daily, which included an article later determined to contain inaccurate information. We take this matter very seriously and are committed to ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the content shared through this member benefit.

As a reminder, News Daily is a curated news clipping service that highlights articles from reputable sources, including newspapers, magazines and television outlets, offering insights into current events, trends and developments in our industry. While we have established procedures to ensure the legitimacy of the sources we use, there is always a possibility of inadvertently featuring articles that are not entirely accurate.

On Friday, an article about proposed federal safety oversight plans by the Trump Administration was included. Upon further review by our public affairs team, it was confirmed that no such plans are currently being considered, and the article does not accurately reflect discussions within the incoming government.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused and appreciate your understanding. To prevent similar issues in the future, we are revisiting our standard operating procedures to strengthen the verification process for all shared news sources.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Bit of a weird headline giving the Efteling a headache right now. Apparently an interlude to some adult film content was filmed at the park, and locally their name had been blowing up in trending searches on a website you probably wouldn’t want to associate your family entertainment brand with. According to another Dutchie website they are understandably not happy and not willing to discuss the situation or whatever actions come next.

I don’t even know how I would respond to a scenario like this in management’s shoes.

Djurs Sommerland is in the middle of doling out their 2025 announcements every Sunday until Christmas, and while only two official announcements have been made so far, a third announcement strongly hinted at is an expansion to the park’s Mexicoland area, where the Funtime drop tower El Grito opened earlier this year. The park’s mini-golf course had already been removed in 2023 to make way for this development.

The first official announcement, made on the 1st of December, is that the park will open earlier in the year than usual for the park’s first ever Easter event, running throughout the middle of April. The second announcement, made on the 8th, is that the park will for the first time ever be open at night (up to 9 P.M) during their Halloween event, running from October 11th to the 19th. In previous years, the park would only be open until 6 P.M. in that period. This move, according to the park director, is something the park’s fanbase has been requesting for years.

The third announcement, made last week, is that Djurs will open Denmark’s first ”adventure trail” in 2025, which will take up the former mini-golf site and spill over into Juvelen’s final turnaround, which has been temporarily removed to allow constrution to proceed. The highly intricate attraction will bring further thematic cohesion and detail to the park’s Mexicoland area.

A large fire broke out at Karl’s Erlebnisdorf in Rövershagen this morning. Apparently the source of the flames is the tractor ride. The extent of the damage is unclear as of yet.

EDIT: The park is still set to re-open for Christmas Day tomorrow, but the damage has already been estimated at over 2.5 million euros.

A 17-year-old boy died on Dec. 20 after he disembarked the Superman el Último Escape at Six Flags Mexico. The teenager was leaving the Morgan hyper coaster when he suddenly reported feeling unwell and collapsed. Paramedics transported the boy to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed he had sustained cerebral and pulmonary edema. Source (in Spanish)

Disneyland is temporarily closing eight attractions this month for seasonal refurbishments following the busy winter holiday season. The Haunted Mansion, It’s A Small World, Disneyland Railroad, Disneyland Monorail, Mark Twain Riverboat, Grizzly River Run, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind and the Fantasmic show closures join Pixie Hollow and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln that were already shuttered for refurbishment.
Mark Twain Riverboat will be closed today through Friday for a brief seasonal refurbishment, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind in DCA’s Pixar Pier will be closed through 23. January and Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure is closed today through 13. March for the annual winter refurbishment of the river rapids ride. Source

California's Great America appears set to cancel its winter season events for 2025, including the popular Snoopy Christmas ice show, with the park's next seasonal closure being moved up to October 2025 from January 2026. The end is neigh. Source

Palace Entertainment confirmed that Thomas Town at Kennywood will be replaced this spring with a new area featuring five rides for families and children. More details about the new themed area are expected to be announced soon. Kennywood's website currently lists five rides - Train, Drivers, Helicopter Tour, Kid Drop Tower and Fire Training - as coming soon, but the accompanying photos have been taken down. Source

Portaventura has presented their plans to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the park this season. I'm not too up to date on the rumours surrounding Dragon Khan potentially getting removed or a retrack, but those can go out the window; it's getting a repaint. Original colourscheme from 1995.

Bobbejaanland has launched a survey for a possible operating period during the winter months. The survey details various entertainment concepts such as ice skating rinks, drone shows, christmas parades, dressing the park’s various themed lands in winter decor, etc.. This move would put Bobbejaanland more in line with its many competitors (Walibi, Bellewaerde, Plopsa, Efteling, etc.), but the park’s technical director states that the logistics of opening the park late in the year (mainly maintenance and staffing) will need to be addressed before plans are officially drawn up. Currently, the park only employs about 50 year-round personnel, with most of its 400+ workforce during the operating season being temporary hires.

Bobbejaanland has now confirmed that the park will be open during the winter months this year. After a record season in 2024, the park will expand its offerings into the December holidays. More details will be shared later this year.

Adventuredome’s future may be on shaky grounds as the Circus Circus Hotel & Casino’s owner is looking to sell the property. Owner Phil Ruffin believes the land beneath the casino and theme park may be worth more than any other plot on the Las Vegas Strip, and thus seeks to sell in order to cash out.

Toverland’s Troy is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment which includes retracking significant parts of the coaster. This refurbishment is part of a multi-year project to retrack the entire coaster to better prepare it for the park’s recently implemented year-round operations. It’s unclear if the retrack will involve any Titan Track replacement or if it’ll be entirely wood. Troy is expected to reopen on April 12th, in time for the Easter holidays.

A small bit of news from China.

You may have noticed the two coasters pop up on the RCDB heading for Beijing Shijingshan Amusement Park both built by MCC

First up we have Cupid Roller Coaster

Listed as a family coaster on the DB but it very much isn't
These photos show fabrication of the ride which looks less family like than expected. but who knows?

Cupid 40.jpg

Photos of the ride design have popped up on various Chinese sites. Oddly slightly different from each other. But broadly pretty close.

No sign I can see of any vertical construction at the park quite yet but that doesn't mean there isn't

Oh and they also seem to be replacing their SLC.

There's some confusion on the DB as to which ride is which. The Elements for the cupid coaster are listed under the invert. Which is just a normal Chinese invert.
