Slammer

I noticed when at Thorpe on Saturday that it has been completely taken off the map with no mention of it. Plus, the area nearby has been completely fenced off with no-one around. There were even a few cranes about.

Normally, I'd pass this off as maintenance but the fact that it has been taken off the map and been a constant problem for Thorpe recently, I can't see Slammer ever operating again and I bet it will be taken down during the off-season.

No photos but I'm sure others would have noticed this/got photos.

It was removed from the map because Thorpe Park didn't believe they would have the ride ready for Fright Nights so edited out to avoid disappointment.

Whether it will reopen next season remains to be seen. Personally I can see it returning despite all the issues it has.

Hasn't stopped Thorpe before?

They could have easily got rid of it last year when it was partially deconstructed for half a season; they didn't.

Not saying they won't but I recon they could squeeze another year or two out of it if they wanted to.

I hope they are getting rid of it. There's only one in the World for a reason. It's a vile attraction and an absolute nightmare in regards to maintenance. Let's hope they make room for something decent, or a patch of grass, I'd be happy with either.

I've been to thorpe every year for the past 10 years. It's never been open when I've been. I'd like it to stay, and actually get to ride it.

Yeah, I think it was something like 10 visits over a period of years before I got on the bloody thing. POS.

It's doubtful it will be removed though, being written off so soon into its life is unlikely. It IS a nightmare though to maintain (though possibly it would be fine at another park? :p ), btu the updated park map and not being ready for the late season sounds plausible.

I've only been to Thorpe once and Slammer was open all day! Guess I was lucky :p

I would not like them to remove it. Slammer is one of my absolute favourite flat rides in the world!! It offers a unique experience and is very comfortable too (in contradiction to it's cousin in New England).

I've been to Thorpe around a dozen times and never known Slammer to be down for an entire visit, except the most recent one.

I don't know what I want to happen with the ride. It isn't mind-blowing, but I guess it's alright. The feeling of 'swatting' the sky when going forwards is quite fun.

Don't we get this rumour about Slammer's removal pretty much every off season? Yeah, sure, somebody has to get it right eventually. I might start a "Slammer removal in 2015" topic to try and get the I-told-you-so bragging rights.

It's an ok ride, and a fairly unique experience, but I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there. The fact that they look so impressive and intimidating, yet barely any were sold speaks volumes.

Except this time I have heard for certain it is going in the off season

To be fair there is a link to all of the rides available for fright nights on the Thorpe Park front page which states slammer is still something to ride, so?

It's the best flat ride at Thorpe...with the possible exception of Rush but I dunno....

Hope it stays, excellent thrill ride!
