Thriller and Bad were fantastic albums. Dangerous had its moments, but everything after that did nothing for me.
I know we should try and separate the music from the person making it, but in MJ's case it's impossible. Don't speak ill of the dead and blah blah blah, blame the media/parents/fans/whatever, but the guy was seriously delusional at best. A selfish, self-destructive, dangerous-to-other-people ego maniac at worst. Sorry, but those test tube babies are ****ed for life, and all because of a selfish whim.
I couldn't stand the guy. Sorry, you can blame his young age and outside influences all you want, but other people have achieved that level of fame and not gone the way that he did. Genius, King of Pop, very very true but whatever... right now I'm pissed off, but far from surprised, at the hypocrisy.
Look at all the papers/news sites now. Look at the pictures they're using. All from the 80s when Michael Jackson could do no wrong and looked good. A week ago it's close ups on his collapsed nose and thinly-veiled references to paedophilia. Now, he's a god, sorry God.
Sorry, I know the topic was about his music, but it's hard to focus on that completely right now. Anyway, Thriller = Brilliant. Bad = Fantastic. Anything else = Whatever.
He WAS brilliant, and luckily that former brilliance was enough to keep him at the top. The guy had done nothing remotely interesting for 20 years, was riding on the coattails of of everything pre-Moonwalker, and was about to become the butt of even more jokes when his huge comeback didn't happen.
At least now people can pretend we were about to see the greatest concert of all time, the come back to end all comebacks, the show to tell your grandchildren about. Sounds harsh, but he's gone at the right time. He WILL go down in history as one of the best, if not the best performers we've ever seen, even though we haven't seen it for 20 years. When/If he cancelled those concerts/When/If they were ****, he would have lost the shred of credibility he had.
Sorry, ranting...
