Shrek 4D/ Far Far Away for Alton Towers 2011

The 1st time I went on Shrek 4D I thought it was fantastic. The 2nd time I thought it was not as good and the 3rd time well I was just bored.

The fact that the show is in Movie Park in Germnay says it all, yes I dragged everyone that was on the Germany trip on it, says it all.

People that have not seen it will enjoy it, I just think they should have gone for something original.

What will be next Back to the Future?

The only one I've been in is the one at Madame Tussauds in London and it was OK, but I expect they will get very repetative - but I suspect one would be a big crowd puller.

I actually quite enjoyed the one in Movie Park Germany. If the seats are as good in this one then it'll be great fun. :)
I had seen the film before riding it as I got Shrek 3D on DVD when I got the first one on DVD. But the pre-show and all the effects added in make it quite fun.

I think Merlin have realised is that brands work really well for the parks. They hugely increase gate numbers as it's something the audience can instantly relate to and recognise if it's based on a film.

Just a shame they've got something that other parks have had for years and it's on a film series that's died out and stopped.

Is this the same show they have at Universal Studios Florida?

If so, it's a fairly good show, nothing amazing of course.

^Too early to say, but I think we're safe in assuming that they're not going to go out and create a whole new film (writers, animators, actors etc.) when one already exists.

Confirmation that the creators of this theatre will be Simworx can be found half way down this thread HERE from Towers Times. I'm not sure of the original sourcing though.

Project is officially CANCELLED!

Dreamworks not happy with it apparently and have cancelled the contract...

News from Towertimes...

It has been revealed that next year's new 4D Cinema for Alton Towers will no longer have a Shrek theme. The news about the 2011 new attraction was first broke by TowersTimes in October.

Rumours are suggesting that Dreamworks, the creators of Shrek, are unhappy with the quality of the proposed Far, Far, Away retheme for Storybook Land and have therefore cancelled the contract.

This news will come as a huge surprise for all those involved as the plans were already at a mature stage, with the tent already emptied ready for construction to begin.

Although the Shrek IP was not the most popular choice amongst the TowersTimes community, Shrek would have been much more marketable compared with other generic 4D films.

It is likely that the 4D Cinema is being built by Simworx, who have recently built a 4D Cinema in Sea Life Birmingham, another attraction owned by Merlin Entertainments.
There are currently no rumours circulating about what will replace the Shrek film, but we will keep you updated when we hear more. It could be a possibility that one of the Simworx in-house 4D films are now used.

I'd say it's quite believable actually.

Dreamworks are not going to want their name attached to an inferior product, which Alton's "do-it-on-the-cheap-chuck-it-into-an-old-tent" approach certainly is. Compare that to the actual THEATRES that the Universal parks have, not to mention the huge scale of Singapore's Far, Far Away, and Alton's effort is nothing short of embarrassing.

I suppose we can "look forward" to that **** ing Spongebob film now then. That or some other generic crap.

If this is cancelled, then there is someone out there with some sense.

HOWEVER, if true this does mean that they still need to put a film in that 4D cinema, which once again if true, is already on order/being installed. This means that they need to purchase a new film and re-design the interior/exterior of the theatre. The films out there aren't great and I can't see any of them fitting in with Alton whatsoever. They also don't have enough time to pay a fortune to get an animation studio to create a new film in time for the new season.

EDIT: ^Gawd, forgot Gardaland added that Spongebob one this year. You're probably right as they like doing these things within the company. Though aren't Blackpool getting this as part of their new Nickelodeon land in 2012?

^^The Spongebob film is everywhere. Doesn't Flamingoland have it as well?

I honestly can't see them making any effort with this at all. It's a cheap filler attraction. They'll just get it up and running and shove any old film in it.

Yep, it replaced the Christopher Lloyd Haunted lighthouse one.

A decent point someone made on TTF though, without having to spend on the Shrek IP, which is likely to have been a large chunk of the outlay, I wonder if we may see an unexpected flat ride, in say the dark forest, or something else getting some tlc...

So, wait, I'm confused, is the whole Old MacDonald's Farm/Storybook thing getting a re-theme still? I was under the impression both lands were to become Far Far Away but now obviously that's fallen through, are they going to come up with something else instead?

If its that one about completing a burger, then yes. Its a pile of **** that movie. I will be disappointed if they do! Something more generic and GOOD please!

Simworx have some of the best 3D/4D Theatres I have seen. If they work with them, it should all work out alright. I just hope they don't go down the same route as others and just put in a generic 3D/4D Cinema in which they can play different films each time if they'd like.

This type of workings have really spoilt Sea Odyssey in Port Aventura. It's just ludicrous how bad it has become. BRING BACK SAMMI!

I would love it if they could come up with some sort of 4D film about a story which happened at the towers. Maybe elaborate on the Hex story a bit more or something along those lines I think would be unique and awesome.

However I just know it's going to be spongebob or something like that
