What's new

SeaWorld Orlando | Mako | B&M Hyper Coaster

There is a separate topic on orcas I thought. That topic I avoid, would rather not plaster it on other areas of the site too.

Is there any news on opening yet? Last I saw was a few pics of employees? riding it.

Sorry I don't even get what the disability thing has to do with the argument. And Lofty, saying it is 'true' is also just another 'opinion'. Everyone has different ones (which we have all discussed multiple times elsewhere on the forum).

This thread is for talking about the coaster. Can we do that now?

Back on topic: impressed with the theming so far it looks very vibrant.

I said I wasn't going to add to this but I feel so strongly about the above comment re 'the disability thing'. All I have to say is that if all you're worried about is a post that doesn't agree with yours then what a lovely life you must lead. I'd happily swap lives with you for a few days.

On a coaster forum, comments are generally about coasters with poster's private lives being irrelevant. I know a few people that are disabled enough to not be able to go on many coasters but they still participate because that's what the forum is about/for. I can't stand when people throw their struggles in other people's faces, insinuating that they can't have an opposing opinion. How do you know what struggles they're going through for you to be able to say they must be having a "lovely life"? Frankly, nobody cares about your struggles, especially not when they're thrown about as some kind of argument ending wall.

But Mako looks good, another fun B&M with some good interaction with its surroundings.

Basically read what Dar said.

Your personal life and how 'lovely' everyone else's lives apparently are (although how would you even know) is irrelevant to a rollercoaster discussion.
This is a discussion forum full of opinions, people don't always agree, it is going to happen a lot! We don't all start trying to compare how 'lovely' our lives are as a comeback.

Oh the irony of how great a roller coaster I thought it was and planned to discuss. I wasn't given the time of day to air my views and praise their other coasters. Other people who have the same view as me on the ethics of Seaworld on these forums have had nothing like this much abuse. I love coasters and discussing them but will never converse again with the imbeciles who obviously like to bully other people.

Haha right ok. If you feel so inclined.

End of the off topic ****. Discuss the coaster in here, and keep the squabbling out.

If you want to have a discussion about Orcas or disabilities more generally, then please do so in separate topics, of which I'm sure we already have some.

Thanks.

This theming looks great! That water looks really nice. I want to see this at night with completed lighting.

How likely is the entire area being finished in time for June 10th? It looks pretty much finished from the pictures here

What about Orcas with disabilities?

In terms of what's visible, there are not many construction walls left, but there's still a lot of coral painting to do. I wouldn't say they look behind schedule at all.

Hi All,
I'm glad my login still works! I got asked to post my Facebook review of Mako on here as other might be interested. I've clocked 80 rides so far as part of testing and it's a really enjoyable ride. Probably 2nd or 3rd favorite in Florida.

Here is my review:
Overall the coaster is really solid. B&M has been experimenting lately with a little bit more aggressive and higher banked cornering and Mako is no exception. The first half of the ride is one of the best B&M hyper experiences out there. There's no lift slowdown like on Fury 325, so the coaster throws the train over the top with decent speed to provide some pretty strong airtime- especially in the back. The weird little flat section after the drop can be felt, but doesn't make a difference from a ride experience standpoint. Rolling through the overbanked corner, the coaster runs a little slower than I was originally anticipating, but it's not a detriment. It doesn't have the speed of the similar, but smaller overbank on Georgia's Goliath, but this gives a nice bit of sideways float before heading back down. The first true airtime hill is the strongest single section of airtime on the ride with sustained floater and a pretty aggressive end from the back seat. It's probably my favorite element on the ride. The turnaround is fast and high banked-- much quicker than the typical B&M hammerhead. I like this style better. Heading into the next hill, the train hits the trim brake and unfortunately it grabs quite a bit. In the front there's still a strong amount of airtime, though in the back it's weaker than it could be. It's on par with how the trim on Fury grabs, but perhaps not as strong. The hill/diving corner combination is neat because of the proximity to the ride supports and the airtime is reasonable though not as strong as pre-trim. Perhaps my 2nd favorite part of the ride after the main airtime hill is the low speed hill before the midcourse brakes. It's fast and has a surprising about of airtime that's decently strong despite the speed lost back at the trim. Then we hit the mid-course brakes and unfortunately there's a ton of speed scrubbed off. So much that there's not even floating airtime on the hill immediately after. The two high banked curves to follow also feel slower than they ought to be or that the banking might be too high. They're still quite fun, but if the trim was lessened up enough so that the airtime hill had the same quality airtime as the beginning, the 2nd half would be miles better.

From a seat standpoint, I found the front to be slightly better than the back just because there's more airtime due to the trims killing it a bit in the back. Specifically I found the left seat to be best because of the first roll turn and the finale dive over the lake. The airtime in the back is the strongest-- most noticeably on the first drop and the first airtime hill. The front has the views (left again is best) and more airtime than I expected. It's actually rather close to the amount in the back though a little less aggressive. The post trim hill is best in the front since it still picks up a decent amount of air before all the speed is scrubbed off.

The short version of all of this is that the first half is pretty amazing and the 2nd half falls a little short. Thankfully, the first half can more than compensate for the slightly lackluster ending, which puts the ride right up with my favorite B&M hypers. In-park it probably becomes my favorite, though I will need to re-ride the others before I make that decision. It's an incredibly repeatable experience (as evidenced by the amount I was able to put in during a few hours over a couple days) and as smooth as you would expect a new B&M to be. This coaster is going to be a winner for the public-- they're going to absolutely love it. I don't expect Mako is going to become a new favorite ride for enthusiasts, but I don't think it's going to be too far down the top lists. There's plenty to love about this ride.

Hope you all enjoy the ride if you get a chance to check it out this year. Please let me know if you decide to stop by!

^Yay, CP6! Nice to see you in here after... *checks profile*... 6 years!

If I may be bold enough to ask: It seems like you're on the "inside" of this (having clocked 80 rides before the opening of the coaster), and I recall that "Florida needs a Hyper" was a statement thrown around a lot here a few years ago, when you were still active. Have you had any input on the park's decision to build such a coaster? I know some of the veterans of CF "turned pro" and now work in the industry, so I'm wondering whether or not we've reached a point where "hobby enthusiast alumni" are having an actual effect on the industry. It's not like ex-CF-ers are managing whole parks, RCT style, but if some of us have actually gone on to participate in meetings where the words "let's build this" have actual weight, that'd be really interesting.

That drop looks so steep!

Unfortunately some fat people have turned away as there are no fat seats on this coaster :(

Just got back myself. Did 4 rides total. I was in the front row of the second ever public train... and then I grabbed a back row and 2 middle rows, saw Mr. CP6 at unload as well. The ride is very good... although after my first ride they were making everyone removed their glasses..... Odd. So I can ride Manta with glasses on.... without a strap... but not Mako? hmm...

Did the great Robb "coasterforce don't ask permission for videos" Alvey have to take down a video that didn't have permission?
