Sea World (Aus) | Storm Coaster | Mack Water Coaster

Loving the water effects and the like, but, the containers are so uniform in shape considering they've just been under the attack of a giant storm.

Nice to see they've bothered to theme it though.

I wish more parks would buy water coasters.
The thing is, most water coasters aren't really that good. They're a compromise between the requirements of being a coaster and being a water ride, and generally aren't particularly great at either. Unless a park is really going to pull out all the stops to make the ride a well themed experience from start to finish (as opposed to a load of elevated track above a field somewhere), most parks would probably be better off installing separate coaster and water rides.

I don't agree, they are excellent coasters. You have to take them for what they are, family rides intended for even the smallest. They are always one of the most popular rides in the park who installs them.

The main reason for parks not buying them has always been that they are afraid of the added maintenance when mixing a coaster with water.

Spited by a mere week Roomraider, it soft opened yesterday arvo. Had finished work at 3, and saw online that it apparently had started taking guests at 12 (Unsticky time) , so got to the park a little bit before closing, got some rides in and shot some video:

So yeah it's stupidly wet. Front seat is kinda like Atlantis at SWO...when you splashdown you avoid the main wave, but a mini tidal wave washes over the front of the boat, wetting your lap. Middle rows are ok, but still reasonably wet. Back row is evil:

So it's a fun ride, seemed to be a lot of laterals

Yes the propeller spins, and water drizzles off it

The story of the ride goes that a cat 5 cyclone has blown through, you are in the eye so things currently look calm, but you must evacuate to the coast guard boats before you are caught by the trailing side of the storm.

The theming seemed a bit 'Thorpe'....Not bad though.

Nice driving skills.

Several stages of freezer door flaps filter out the light as you enter the dark warehouse.

Once you get inside it's quite atmospheric (excuse the pun), with warning lights, storm sirens going off, wind/rain sound effects...All pretty cool.

Lol, nice bit of recycling going on with the Mack crate.

The load, with the custom boats. The ride had different seatbelts to usual (Unless my memory of JTA is bad...the seatbelts come diagonally across your shoulder, rather than across your lap. I reckon they are better than lap belts because the ops can see them easily.

So, you head out of the show building, do the coaster bit, and re-enter through here.

And cop it horribly on the splashdown.

The ride exit walkway actually passes through the dark ride area. Basically, broken up bits of ship (bulkheads, a giant diesel engine, control panels, bits of cargo) are spread through the warehouse. The fire effects are apparently not ready yet, but there was plenty of fog and water explosions firing around the boat. The walkway splits, and one bit goes quite close to the splashdown, so if you weren't wet enough from the ride you can stand in the path of the wave.

They didn't actually have any signs on the soak zone, so i had wandered into it, phone and all, and got caught out

At the back is a really evil effect. Hard to photograph in the darkness. The boat is held for a few seconds, and they let off a torrent of water from something similar to a giant tipping bucket. You can see the operation of it from the rear, but on the ride it' just themed to look like a large manifold of pipes. If you sit on the right you get soaked even more.

Great addition, and riders seemed to love it.

Looks like a great ride, they did well on the theming.

I agree with insanecoastervids? :D

It looks very Thorpe, but that's a compliment. It seems Australia is on the up in recent years when it comes to coasters.

I'm not a fan of the whole make it ludicrously wet thing, but otherwise it looks great for what it is.

I haven't really been paying attention to this topic but it does look like a fun little ride. I enjoyed JTA and it seems like I'd enjoy this one too.
