This has been bugging me since the first time I heard the song. To me, there's part of the backing track on 'Candy' by Robbie Williams that really sounds like the Katanga Canyon area music from Alton.

It's definitely similar.

There's an interview that was on Sky Arts recently with Robbie and Gary talking fondly of Alton Towers. So it's possible, or at least a very large coincidence.
