Rides which have grown on you

Only one for me, and that's Shockwave at Drayton Manor. I wasn't exactly keen at first, but these days I find it quite an enjoyable little coaster. The first drop and zero g make this ride for me.

Air, Rita and Stealth.

Air always used to bore me just through being a bit forceless (apart from the part where you're flipped onto your back which I find uncomfortable) I guess two things have changed, firstly the last couple of times I've been on it the queue has been much shorter than it used to be. Secondly I always used to ride at the front so I could see more, now I prefer the back because you get dragged around the first couple of hills where it seemed particularly slow at the front.

Rita and stealth were always enjoyable but they just seemed to give bags of airtime this season whereas i've never really felt it before. I think this probably has more to do with the airtime being supressed by the OTSR's making it less noticible, maybe i've just started picking up on it more.

Rita and Nemesis inferno

Rita - I just find a nice bit of fun, and inferno seems to impress me more and more each time I ride!

To be honest, nothing off the top of my head just jumps out as 'it wasn't that good' to 'thats actually pretty good.'

Oblivion, I was never really a fan of it, and when Saw opened I turned my nose up at it completely,
I decided to give it another chance and something just triggered and now I love it and hate Saw.

I guess I'd say Wicked Twister, only because it is one of the most underrated coasters out there.

Ghostrider and Tremors, both I got off of my first ride feeling like I needed a visit to the chiropractor's but after riding each over a hundred times, and Ghostrider almost 500, I think that both are awesome now that I know how to brace myself and what seats are the best they're both top notch rides.

I also hated Revolution at SFMM but my first rides were always in some random row in the middle of the train but then I gave it one ride in the front row and it was great, the headbanging was gone in all but two places and the view and feeling of speed were great.

I'll say Patriot at Worlds of Fun. I thought it was ok, but nothing great, then I rode in the front and back and I loved it.

I'd probably see Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain grew on me quite a bit whilst I was there.
The first couple of times I rode it, I thought it was awful, but then as I rode it throughout the year it seemed to get more enjoyable. Nothing world class or anything, but still a fun ride. :)

Stampida for me, first time I rode it I found it unbarably rough to ride, then I gave it a chance next time I visited PortAventura, back-row, red train, plenty of slack on the lapbar, just beautiful.

Probably Hex for me. Didn't really like it that the much the first time I rode, but as I went on more and more I just got to like it so much. I guess Air and Nemesis Inferno as well, though I just keep changing my mind of Inferno every time I ride it.

Was this Pre/Post Kumbak **** it up?

I've not experienced one moderately-enjoyable ride on it since they got their grubby paws on it.

Patriot was a pretty fun coaster. I do still prefer Raptor and Talon, but definitely a solid coaster.

I'll add Apocalypse at SFMM. Before, I ranked it at the bottom of wooden coasters, just ahead of Racer and its replacement, now, it's more middle. It jackhammers too much for its age, but, it got better after about 4 consecutive rides in the back. Nice air on the drop too. Still not that great, but it can be spared from a bonfire now.

For me it has to be Air at Alton Towers and Colossus at Thorpe Park (used to be a big Nemesis Inferno fan - doesn't mean I don't like it anymore, can't beat a B&M coaster!)

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, without a doubt. When I first saw the layout, I thought that it had to be the dumbest design I'd ever seen. The number of brake runs simply astounded me -- it seemed like the ride could barely pick up a head of steam before it had to be brought back under control.

After riding it for the first time, I thought it was ok, but still completely hindered by the flaws that I had originally envisioned. But after my fair share of rides, I have to say I really enjoy it. Yes, the number of brake runs IS obnoxious, but there are also a large list of positives. H3R gives a lot more airtime than meets the eye (especially on the double-take), and the ability to pick your own background music can really add to the experience (especially if you -- like me -- are the person who can't resist singing along with the wind in your face). It also has to be one of my favorite evening/nighttime coasters -- H3R's "fun, not intense" nature actually helps it here, as you can enjoy some really nice views of the park lit up in the background since the coaster's not about trying to force the issue down your throat the whole time.

Flawed? Certainly. But definitely underrated.

I agree with this immensely. The first few times I rode it I was trying to pretend that MS was trying to achieve the same goals that Intamin's and B&M's shoot for.

But at this point I've realized to appreciate the kind of ride it gives, and how MS has managed to give America some interesting and unique elements in a high quality coaster. Like Blizzrock mentioned, HRRR provides more of a "fun, not intense" kind of layout that I think is underutilized in the this latest generation of coasters.

The fact that this layout is augmented by a wonderful sound system, ride appropriate music selections, and is surrounded by the nice atmosphere of a Universal park, it becomes quite an experience.

The Incredible Hulk for me, no doubt about it. After my first visit to IoA a couple years ago I thought it was a lot of fun but somehow didn't feel like it was top-10 material (and that was with an even smaller CC!). I was actually more enamored with Dueling Dragons at the time. Since then, I've been back to IoA twice, and each time I've found myself anticipating and enjoying the Hulk even more, to the point where I felt I had to find a spot for it in my top 10.
