Plopsa parks news - Megalite on the way?

peep

CF Legend
Ok, I've known this was coming for a while, the day where Plopsa fans got to meet up with management for all the latest news for all the parks. With the huge expansion of De Panne already underway most of the announcement was centered around that.

Next to the park's entrance they are building a new hotel (construction begins late 2013), a sort of small water park (construction begins December, ready to open 2013?), a massive theatre (5 million Euros, construction starts this month, opens 2013). A new stage will also be added to the square in which they'll surround which will sit where the carousel used to be.

The CEO also announced that De Panne will be getting several attractions next year with a total budget of 6.5 million Euros. There goes those coaster rumours lol. A planning application is expected to be put forward very soon which is when we should know more.

Both of the Plopsa indoor parks will be adding new areas outside themed to K3, a popular girl band. Both attractions seem to center around driving vehicles.

Holiday Park isn't getting anything new next year apart from lots of cosmetic changes to existing attractions and areas to further change it into a Plopsa-looking park. The big theatre near the entrance will also be torn down. No further news was announced regarding the major rollercoaster they're adding in 2014.

Re: Plopsa parks news

Ok, so now there is a little rumour being spread that Plopsa de Panne will get an Intamin Megalite for next year. I'm going to shoot these rumours down straight away because their budget for THREE new attractions was only 6 million euros, a megalite alone would take up that budget (and more?). Still, it could mean one in the not-so-distant future.

Yeah, if this was happening, I can't help feeling they'd have made a big deal out of it at the fan event the other week.

I don't know where they'd put it, but it does seem like this would be the logical next step on from Anubis. I think it'd be a great addition for the park. Lets hope they can make it happen eventually, even if not next year.

Well management were pretty clear they wanted another coaster on the scale of Anubis. According to the blogpost it'd take place on the site of the circus tent as that is planned to be taken down due to the theatre opening next year.

If this happens it will be fantastic, would rather travel 3 hours there than 4 hours to Alton any day.

It'd be fab to have something like a Megalite that close by, and I think Plopsaland is the perfect park for one, but I can't help but feel that that idea has been plucked out of the air a bit? We'll see.

I'm not sure I subscribe to the idea of it going over there. Isn't that where all their younger kids characters are, so it wouldn't make sense to plonk their biggest coaster in there.

I'm still intrigued by the area of trees between the batflier and the entrance (behind where the Plop statue stands. If they did take out the batflier as has been rumoured, that would give them a huge space to play with. Even more huge if it also went out into the car park (as they did with the travelling spinning mouse they had there last Christmas)

I <3 Plopsaland!

If its true that would be amazing so close to home. Yeah, I can totally see them taking out the batflier and putting something in there. As much as I love the idea though, I can't help but feel it's at odds with the rest of the really kiddy-themed park

There is a lot of space if they remove that circus tent thing. IIRC, there's just fields behind it with some animals in?

€ 6.5 million would most likely be enough for the Megalite, but probably not for anything else.

It would be logical for Plopsa to buy a Megalite for De Panne, and then something else from Intamin for Holiday Park.
Would really like to see this one true, as it would match Anubis pretty nicely.

No. No, it wouldn't. Here we go again with the "Mega-Lites are cheap" stuff. They're not. It would cost about double that, probably more.

Kawasemi was $14.6 million, the other three do not have prices listed but there shouldn't be that much of a difference between them.

^Kawasemi will be the most expensive of the Mega-Lites because of the transport costs and the fact that it's built over water. Piraten wouldn't have such huge transporation costs and it's built on flat ground. Pulling a figure out of my ass, let's say that you could knock a couple of million off for that. Despite the transport costs, labour costs in China are low, so the two over there would likely be overall more expensive than Piraten, but considerably lower than Kawasemi.

Regardless, there's no way that 6.5 million Euro comes remotely close to buying one of these things.

Also, let's face it, a Megalite wouldn't fit in Plopsaland (De Panne) AT ALL. Anubis is about the 'biggest' ride in the park, and it's pushing it in my opinion. A Megalite would be for a completely different target audience.

Plus like Gavin said, you couldn't get one for 6.5mil.

lol, yes they are. Piraten cost 6,5 million euros when it was built, and that ride also has more than average theming.

Bad example, it has built in earthquake protection, plus it's built entirely over water.

I'd love to see a link proving that it cost that much, because I haven't seen anything regarding the price of a mega-lite other than Kawasemi.

Try all the newspaper in Denmark when the ride was built.
It was 55 millions DKK with all the theming and ground work.

Edit: It's also stated on Djurs Sommerland's homepage under "history of the park"

When Anubis opened the attendance rose with 18%, so I don't see why they wouldn't want more big rides.

Anubis is at the top end of what that park would want though. The next biggest rides in the park are probably the Star Flyer or the Supersplash, both of which are pretty tame compared to Anubis. Are you really saying they're going to put in a 'proper' thrill ride? I don't buy it.
