Phone hacking and the crappy state of of the British Press

Re: Phone hacking and the crappy state of of the British Pre

We had an email go round work this week urging anyone who has a work mobile with voicemail, and still has the default pin, to change it immediately. There's also been quite high-level meetings going on about ways that we can safeguard against this kinda thing, including the possibility of banning mobile phone voicemail altogether. Eugh, I think this whole thing has got out of hand.

Yeah that's totally ridiculous. Normal people shouldn't have to change their pin on the off chance they are gonna become a murder victim. I know, what about carrying a card in your purse like you do for organ donation. I may no longer have eyes, but I've opted to encrypt my voicemail so you bastards can't cause my family any more grief by pretending I'm still alive!

Re: Phone hacking and the crappy state of of the British Pre

I don't see how it's any worse than stalking someone, shoving a camera in their face and asking awful/difficult questions, or digging into someone's past/background like journalists do on a daily basis.

Fair enough, they shouldn't tamper with it by deleting stuff, but as long as they just listen I honestly don't see what's wrong with it. At all.

I'm just fed up of hearing about it in the news, tbh.

I haven't updated this in a while, but things have been moving fast

News Corp. pulled out of their BSkyB bid yesterday. Huzzah!!!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/ju ... -bskyb-bid

But there are still rumours of the Sun extending its circulation to cover Sundays in as little a a months time, effectively replacing the closed News of the World

Rupert Murdoch, his son James, and Rebekah Brooks are to appear before a committee of MPs next Tuesday to answer questions about phone hacking...although why this isn't being done in a court where justice can be served, I've no idea.

Also, another explanation for those who wanted to know how phone hacking works:

Re: Phone hacking and the crappy state of of the British Pre

Far more interesting than the phone hacking is the relationship between News International (and the wider press), the Police and the politicians.

Unbelievably dodgy deals going on, the workforce pretty much flitted between the three sides! I mean you'd have to be pretty naive to believe that everyone in the police, press and politics were squeaky clean. But this takes the piss just a tad.

Re: Phone hacking and the crappy state of of the British Pre

^^ That's because nobody cares!

^ The Police are the ones to blame in all of this this. Giving out phone numbers ffs.

I'm glad it's been knocked off the top of the news agenda though. It was getting to the point where I could actually smell the other news organisations spunking over dissing News International.

I honestly couldn't care less. Yeah, it's damn right unethical that Milly Dowler's/dead soldiers voicemail was intruded upon because they didn't change the pin, heads should roll over that, but that's it.

I also think Rebekah Brooks is really foxy. When she appeared in the HoC the other day, there's a great clip of her sitting down showing off her womanly arse in a business suit.

Re: Phone hacking and the crappy state of of the British Pre

^ Pretty sure I saw several BBC news reporters having a quick shifty when they thought the cameras weren't on. Murdoch has been trying to kill the beeb for ages!

Now we wait three years for the fricking obvious to come out, they all knew what was going on but all lied and claimed innocence in many previous inquiries and questioning.
