Phantasialand Improvements for 2018

Imagine, the sun is high in the sky, you are in the middle of our theme area Deep in Africa and listening to the sound of lion roars and drum rhythms. At the center of this thematic area, we have created the perfect place for you to relax and enjoy. Impressive stilt houses stand to the right of the entrance to the Black Mamba and directly opposite, next to the Baobab Snack.

Like in a hideaway in the African savannah, you sit underneath and can let the pulsating happenings around you affect you. Get a tasty jambalaya and a refreshing drink at the Baobab Snack and relax under the new wooden structures.

Each stilt is unique, created by Fake Filmconstruction artists. Hand-carved ornaments adorn their surface. African masks come out of the wood. The trunks are treated with a large Bunsen burner to create their dark look - as if they have been exposed to the weather for years. In the deeper notches bright wood shines out, where the flames have not penetrated.
IMG_2869.jpg

Carefully selected by wood specialists, the trunks have a natural branching fork that juts up into the African sky. So they are completely organic in the subject area. Fine mesh wicker mats lie on the crossbeam of the wooden structure giving you shade, once the sun comes out.

Also for any fans of Phantasialand and IMAScore music who don't already have them: the CD of the Wintertraum shows and the CD with the 50th anniversary remix released last year are still being sold in the Berlin shop.

Has the track been repainted too or just given a good clean? It basically looks like a new coaster!

They just gave it a good clean. Black Mamba looks stunning now. When you would never have visited Phantasialand before and you go for the first time this season... you would think it's a brand new area with new coaster. ;)

Lilli’s Café - New article from Phantasialand's Blog about the new for 2018 cafe in the Berlin area.

Urban. Stylish. Delicious.

It is lively in the charming building in the style of the 1920s. Seductive steaming coffee wanders over the counter while the coffee maker hums and makes a delicious creation of frothy milk froth and aromatic espresso. Appetizing sandwiches and floral coffee aromas invite you for a very special coffee break. Specially modeled on the well-known Thonet chairs, extra high seats promise timeless comfort - in the style of Parisian coffee houses. And at tables with white Carrara marble.
With Lilli's Café Phantasialand has created a new gastronomic gem. In the Berlin Street, next to the crazy Hotel Tartüff and the Waffelbäckerei, coffee variations, hot chocolates and crispy sandwiches are waiting to be sampled. And in a modern ambience with Art Nouveau flair! But the fantastic mural is a real eye-catcher: a woman who seems oblivious to her time in Lilli's Café with half-closed eyes. And undeniable enjoyment promises.

Hot, black and aromatic: the perfect coffee
Ambience and taste go hand in hand at Lilli's Café. Here every single coffee is freshly ground. Because only in the full bean the many flavors remain long preserved. As soon as the coffee grinder rattles, the first intense aromas tickle the nose - earthy, smoky, nutty and chocolaty.

A high-quality portafilter machine and various inserts make it possible to brew exactly the right amount of ground coffee for every coffee in Lilli's Café - and to get the best taste out of the beans. But even the most modern portafilter machine is nothing without trained employees. Because a good coffee requires a lot of craftsmanship. That's why our employees learned how to use the valuable raw material of coffee with experts. They know how to press the fresh ground coffee so sensitively into the portafilter that the hot water can penetrate into every pore and thus release the whole tasty variety of the beans. Under a fluffy crema, the enjoyment is then retained until the last sip - for an incomparably aromatic espresso, which awakens all senses.

A portafilter machine is a high-quality espresso machine. Freshly ground coffee is placed in a sieve. The ground coffee is then gently pressed together in the portafilter. This creates the so-called coffee cake, which is brewed with a certain pressure and extracted through the sieve. A special brewing system prevents the formation of unnecessary bitter substances - and at the same time ensures the typical crema on the espresso.
The perfect espresso is more than just a quick fix. Without him, other popular coffee creations would be unthinkable - like the creamy cappuccino or the spotted latte macchiato. And this specialty can even be refined in Lilli's Café! Here, the latte macchiato, thanks to sophisticated flavors such as a hint of hazelnut, a splash of full-bodied caramel or a dash of sweet vanilla, is an individual treat. And the hot chocolates are in no way inferior. Hazelnut, caramel, or white chocolate: sweet tooth lovers are just as welcome here as coffee lovers and tea drinkers. And how about a very special snack?

Baked according to old tradition
Good old bakery craft. No additives. No baking mixes. French flour and a natural production: That's what makes the rolls in Lilli's Café a real taste experience! And that in wonderful variety. Crispy baguette, hearty rye or classic wheat include roast beef and pastrami or smoked salmon and avocado.
Lilli%C2%B4s-Caf%C3%A9-7858-1.jpg

Good bread takes time. Therefore, we spend a long time on our dough for our rolls. Dietary fiber and starch can swell properly in several periods of rest. That makes the rolls in Lilli's Café not only very digestible, but also very delicious. Vegan rolls with Mediterranean vegetables, bread rolls with South Tyrolean ham or the classic with cheese and cucumber ... The display in Lilli's Café is simply an appetite. On sandwiches that are so much more than that. Freshly baked every day and topped with selected ingredients, the snacks here are as tasteful as the coffee. The bread crumb cracks. The innermost is wonderfully soft. And cream, tomato relish or mustard are the icing on the cake.

The perfect break

The late breakfast for hungry adventurers, the enjoyable caffeine kick in between or a small relaxing break in the afternoon: Lilli's Café is a special place to recharge your batteries! It is comfortable here, with a view of the hustle and bustle in our Berlin. Green-gray floor tiles, a marble-clad bar counter with a crisp, fresh display and the hand-painted mural create a special flair. With a freshly brewed coffee, a hot chocolate and delicious sandwiches can be planned here the next fantastic experience with friends or family wonderful!

And if you can not wait to get to the next fast-paced attraction or follow one of our rousing shows, you can still enjoy the delights of Lilli's Café! This coffee is the perfect companion on the way to new adventures in Germany's best amusement park. With a latte macchiato and a crispy-juicy sandwich, you can also leisurely stroll through Berlin or take a breather on the steps of Kaiserplatz under the open sky.

And when the taste on the tongue evaporates slowly, nobody has to mourn for a long time. Lilli's Café always invites you to a very special coffee break in old urban Berlin.

The Lu Chi restaurant is also under refurbishment (I haven't seen any pictures of the new interior so I don't think it has re-opened yet). As part of the refurb they have created this brand new entrance - again you can see Eternal Knots/Tibetan Knots appear here as well (the amount of Tibetan stuff that has popped up recently makes me seriously think that rumour was 100% correct and Geister is going next, or this is all the biggest and most amazing coincidence in history).

Wakobato
Last year the park trialled a new disk contact system for in a few of the targets on Wakobato, the splash battle in the Fantasy area. The trial was a success as the new targets worked wonderfully in triggering the water effects. So in the off season they have upgraded all of the Wakobato with this new system. They are not in operation yet but hopefully will be soon.

Temple of the Nighthawk
Today is the 30th birthday of Temple of the Nighthawk. As many of you may know it was space themed when it opened on 1st April 1988 under the name 'Space Center'. But it actually was originally going to be called Orion (and was advertised as such while under construction). However Orion was also the name of a popular Sex Toy delivery company in Germany at the time so Phantasialand changed the name to 'Space Center' just before opening.

A few days back TOTNHFan on PhantaFriends.de noticed that on Train #5 one of the rockets (a remnant of its Space Center days) on the sides of the trains had come off. Rather than leave it broken the park have replaced it with a rocket taken off the unused and decommissioned spare train #1. However the rocket is still has its silver space themed paint. So part of Space Center is still running on Temple today. (Presumably when they get the chance it will be repainted)

Since the start of this season Taron has been running without all its wheel covers because the park had been having issues with them. On one or two of the trains the covers had been rubbing against the front car. The famous Tobi explained that this had been happening because the front car is firmly attached to the first car of the train, but the first axis (with the wheels and covers) has a rotational degree of freedom compared to the second axis which the car is attached to. The park has however managed to solve the issue and Taron's wheel covers returned last Friday.

The roof of the Temple of the Nighthawk building is currently receiving a major clean. You can see the top right cleaned orange section compared to the rest of the roof.

And the toilets in the Temple building, just around the corner from Hollywood Tour and Fantissima's entrances and down an awful old alleyway are currently closed for refurbishment. EDIT: They've now reopened and it was not as extensive as originally reported. The mens have received new urinals. But it is still investment which is further proof in my mind that the Temple complex still has a few more years left, and China will be dealt with first.

Also Michael Mack (of Europa Park and Mack Rides fame) along with a delegation visited Phantasialand yesterday. EDIT: There appear to be conflicting reports regarding his visit some say he was actually there with his family.
It was probably just a normal visit, but I can dream that they were there to sell PHL a Powered Suspended Coaster like Arthur to replace Temple of Nighthawk, right?

I hoped that sh*tty Temple building was going down soon. Bad luck. Haha.

About replacing it with a Powered Suspended Coaster like Arthur...I say yes, do it. With Phantasialand's immersive theming this could be a great replacement.

I'm fairly confident once they've replaced Geister Rikscha and sorted China (hopefully Feng Ju and Colorado Adventure as well) they will replace Temple. I can't see it existing beyond 2022.

It would be nice if they'd close ToTNH and HT sooner. Even if they're not planning to demolish the building yet. Just left it there but closed. Then nobody can see the uglie inside anymore, which is more important. Haha.
