Outlaw Run Media Day and Opening Day

Snoo

The Legend
Hello ladies and gents! ECG and I enjoyed the day at Silver Dollar City, riding their new sexy little beast Outlaw Run. The ride features 3 inversions, a first for a wooden coaster. Lest us not forget the sexy 81 degree drop, incredible setting, and things you thought you could never see in a wooden coaster. But enough of me, LETS SEE THIS BEAST!

As far as my thoughts on the ride, I thought it was fantastic. I came in not thinking much. The ride does some things that other coasters do and a lot of things you've never seen before. But here we go with an abnormally long review from me:

First of all, drop. Sexy. You definitely felt some amazing forces in the back. Next up, the 153 degree turn.. which looks as if it will toss you around, feels just like the barrel rolls at the end.. along with a pop of airtime at the top. Airtime hill, 90 degree turn with another great pop of air, then came the best part of the ride IMO. The wave turn, which looks like you'd just hang, gives you lateral ejector, which is something that you never thought could exist.

Now, the double barrel rolls. One word. Legit. You come into it with good speed, not too fast and not too slow, enough to give you some hang time but not uncomfortable hang time.. and it keeps it all the way through the rolls as well.. not dying half way through like some thought it would.. so not Colossus at Thorpe.. :p

The only draw back is the obvious, the length. It does barrel around the course quite fast, but the things you feel as you go around that course makes up for it 10x.

All in all, it really was a fantastic ride. I had some doubts, but those were erased after a few laps on it. I personally loved the front row best but the back row doesn't lag far behind. If you want something unique, different and clearly fantastic, get on this sexy monster as soon as you can.

OPENING DAY!!

We also stayed to see what everyone else thought. Here are the pictures from that sexy day!

Overall, everyone who rode the ride enjoyed it. I couldn't find someone who wasn't smiling. I was glad we could enjoy all the time we spent with everyone there. Silver Dollar City has a hell of a ride on their hands. Everyone get there as soon as you can to enjoy this beast.

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

What a day! I can't say enough about the incredible staff at Silver Dollar City and this fantastic coaster.<3

Everything looks just like I imagined it after the tour they gave me four months ago. The themeing is spot on and is right up there with Disney and Universal Islands of Adventure - it that good! So much attention to detail - from the station entrance, to the queue, to the station interior and even the announcements. Hell, they even have the sound of a stagecoach coming to a halt blasting through speakers along the final brake run.

As for the ride itself - I can't remember having so much fun on a coaster since the first time I rode Lightning Racer. This ride give you so many new sensations on a coaster that it's hard to come to grips with them all on the first go round, yet none of them are overwhelming. You get to experience all these radical elements and have a fun time doing it. The ride is smooth, the transitions seamless and it never throws you around.

The trains are perfect. They're open due to the lack of OTSRs, the seats are comfy with nothing in front of you in the front row and the lapbars are secure enough to give you peace of mind. Guys just have to make sure to watch out to not get stapled (due to the form-factor of the seats & lapbar at the groin area), which happened to Snoo on his first ride but never to me. Girls will never have an issue with this. :p

The lift hill is faster than either one of us expected, especially for a chain. The pre-drop is perfect in the way it gets you ready to drop, but then waits a bit before you actually go over the edge and the view from up there is spectacular. The drop itself is great in the front, but sensational in the back (just like El Toro's). In the front seats the tension builds as you peer straight down waiting for the drop. While in the back seats you simply take off out of your seat as you're pulled over the crest.
The 153 reminds me of Fahrenheit's Norwegian loop, only better. You go into it thinking that it's a barrel roll and it feels like a barrel roll, but then you realize that it wasn't. It's like WTF? That was cool!
Then you get your first real pop of injector airtime as you fly up along side the lift hill. You can clearly see Snoo and I flying up out of our seats at 0:56 in the rider cam video. Then comes the (almost) 90 degree banked turn into the lift hill that gives you upward lateral Gs and finishes off with another pop of ejector airtime as you plummet back down into the "holler".
By this time you're halfway through the ride, but it only gets better (unlike El Toro, which let's up toward the end). The wave turn is amazballs! But then I've never felt lateral ejector before and likely neither have you. Such a different sensation, but nothing too disorientating or uncomfortable. Just new, different and great!
They saved the best for last as you sail through the barrel rolls at the perfect speed to give you just enough hang time to enjoy the sensation, with out it ever getting uncomfortable. I was really surprised how well the coaster carries its speed through the twists, as it's a pretty good ascent that I though would slow the train down too much as you hit the final inversion. In fact, I didn't notice decrease in speed throughout the rolls.

So yeah, I really like this coaster and have placed it at #2 in my top ten. Sure there are other coasters that are taller, faster, longer, give more airtime, are more intense and have more inversions, but I just think this one does - what it does - so well. Like Ravine Flyer II, it's short but sweet. However this one does everything that RFII does and so much more, plus it a lot smoother.

I can't wait to ride Iron Rattler and whatever RMC has up their sleeves for their next coaster.

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

Yeah it looks pretty good. I'm not really expecting much either but maybe that will change when I acctually ride it. I like the T-Shirts so I can brag to everyone that I rode Outlaw Run in it's first year of operation when I'm a wise old grandpa XD.

Btw you posted on 11:11 :)

Back On Topic: Just curious, was there anytime in that day where you bumped into Robb Alvey?

Anyway I should be riding this coaster between the time of July - October (the only hint my mom's giving me) and it look like a pretty sweet ride, but there's other coasters that LOOK better (El Toro and Voyage specifically)
But I got to see for myself. Really excited but very iffy on Outlaw even though I know it's an incredible coaster, It's almost like I want to not think it's good so I can blown away like I do for most rides.

Overall short but sweet report, I liked it a lot and the pics where great. Good job :)

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

Been waiting for ECG's report for about an hour and it's almost 1:00 AM where I live and i'm getting tired, I give up. Goodnight, read the report tomorrow.

EDIT: Ok NOW I see he just edited his post instead of making another one, so I'll hold the sleep off for about 15-20 minutes. Ok well it only took 6 minutes but that's not inportant. I thnik Jerry did a great trip report and if you have pictures if you don't mind it would be nice if you could post them tomorrow. Alright I'm off to bed, Goodnight.

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

^Sorry Connor, but I've been busy & had to put that off for a bit.

Just an FYI - I'm currently editing Snoo's interview with RCM's Fred Grubb, plus his interview with Jack and Sherry Herschend, the owners of Silver Dollar City who were on the first train today. Then we're heading back to Outlaw Run tomorrow to shoot a 3D POV, a reverse POV and a back row ride cam video. We'll also be going to the park opening on Friday to film off-ride footage and take more photos of the coaster going through all the elements. So plenty more to come.

Ok that sounds cool and I read the report and it was pretty good and tomorrow pictures would be nice. It looks and sounds like a fun coaster. Can't wait til' I go!

Pftttt, Ultimate got there first!

Thanks so much for these reviews guys... So, is it worth the trek out into the middle of nowhere? Please say no! :p

As for the ride itself - I can't remember having so much fun on a coaster since the first time I rode Lightning Racer.
*sigh* That answers my question, it's amazing, isn't it? It's a no bull fun, brilliant, amazing ride?

UGH I WANT IT!

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

I'd repeat what Joey says, but that would mean I've agreed with him three times in one week and the world would end.

However, it does look like a huge amount of fun and I'm glad my lateral airtime has come true... Well, with those trains.

I thought the ride looked like it would murder you until I watched the ride cam. You can see how much lateral support the seats have and the lap bars mean hang time is fine (I only hate hang time because it hurts my shoulders on OTSR which always seem to accompany hang time rides).

Brilliant reviews though and so glad the ride is as wild, wacky and WTF as the pictures made it look.

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

I expected a lot more lateral action through the 153 and through other areas of the coaster, by the looks of your rider POV the most intense part was the underpass of the lift hill. This ride looks pretty damn solid, especially through those barrel rolls. It also looks like the jacket and the hat will be worth dropping some money on, too.

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

Great review and photos guys, looks like a great ride and I love the theming.

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

Is it just me or do the trains look like a combination of Millennium Flyers amd Timberliners. Those must be extremely comfortable! Oh yeah and have fun at the park!

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

Yup, it's a small park in the middle of nowhere and there's not much around there at all.
There is no realistic reason to ever go there, yet I must.

Looks great, and I'd guess it was pretty smooth?

Branson is a very famous tourist destination and Silver Dollar City has a unique launch terrain coaster called Powder Keg, a RMC wood coaster with inversions, a B&M Sit Down Looper with 5 inversions, a mine train that is known to be the best mine train in the world, a roller coaster that is a lot like a darkl ride, and a kiddie coaster. They also have a few other rides and attractions at SDC. So yeah, there's reasons to go and it's not just SDC there's other stuff in Branson to do. and then you have an excuse to go to Worlds of Fun and Six Flags St. Louis since there 3-4 hours from Branson, and you get to ride Prowler or American Thunder. So yeah there's enough reasons. But even if there was nothing to do Outlaw Run is a good enough excuse. :)

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

That it is but maybe stereotypical, when I hear Branson I think sickening levels of Americana and really cliche family stuff.

Keep in mind unless there's ever an official CF trip (do we even do those?) or something out there this has to be in context of a normal person trip haha

Re: Outlaw Run Media Day

Looks amazing, shame I'm not likely to get anywhere near America in the next 5-10 years!

Quick question about the restraints: Do you notice the bar near your ankles at all? I've seen some people here and elsewhere have some concerns about whether the bar would be in the way or not.

:)

It looks like a less obnoxious version of Premier's LIM lapbar, that's for sure.

You only do when you first sit down. The bar doesnt hurt you or overly restrict your motion in any way. Also, even while getting stapled (once or twice), you still feel EVERY second of airtime. Loved it. <3

We've had a CF Live in the United States in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, and hopefully this year. Not been checking the forums? :)
