What's new

ORP/ORVs

I tend to buy the ORP if its a new attraction or something I have ridden and particularly enjoyed.

However, I will say, I hate buying a physical copy of them. Mainly because I get them home, have to faff around scanning them in to go my computer where there will stream to our Apple TV system and then the physical copy just sits in a box in the cupboard. Its such a waste.

I would rather just pay a smaller fee and get a digital copy emailed to me or something. The same goes for ORV really.

If the picture was good enough, I'd think about getting a digital copy. As Mark said that's much easier to use and share with your mates, especially in the smartphone/facebook era.

I used to buy ORPs for the kid when he was a youngster, but he didn't ask for many. I did buy one a couple of years ago (after he stopped asking) on Thunderhead when the girl in the seats in front of us threw up all over herself & her mother right as the photo was taken. I also bought a some special ones at the CF-Lives when were took over the entire Maverick train & the one of us all crossing our legs throughout the entire Griffon ride. :--D
As far as ORVs, I don't bother with them for coasters because of the stock footage that dominates them. However I did buy the DVD at Zero Gravity with the kid & I doing all those extreme rides (SCAD tower, bungee jump, sling shot, skycoaster & a booster maxx) because they put the videos of us on all those rides on a DVD for just $25 & there's nothing else on the videos other than us (no stock footage).

I love buying them as keepsakes, especially if I may not ride it again in a long time/never. It is always fun to create funny situations for the photos. I generally get more of a kick out of the ones I never end up buying...kinda sad. Maybe it's just because as I have gotten more creative with the photo ops, I have also gotten more frugal/now I have to pay for them, haha.

Depends really how significant the credit was. If it was, say Kingda Ka, Formula Rossa, Steel Dragons 2000 (The most significant record breakers) or just simpily my favourite coaster, I might be tempted to buy one. And it takes time! I'd rather be rushing off to get on another attraction! :--D

I like On Ride photos and also On Ride videos because they are memorabilia.

Heh, good point. I personally don't, because the value they give me is less than the price they cost. If parks could add value to the service perhaps by making it cheaper, or by making it more flexible by giving me a digital copy, I'd be much more inclined to do so.
Merlin now do digital copies but you have to buy the picture first, to get the code to claim your digital copy.
This is only currently in operation at Thorpe and Chessington. But I think they will expand it to the others as it is succuessful.

The ORPs at DLP were grossly overpriced, which was a shame because there were a few I definitely would have bought. Oh well.
