Obsure Coaster & Thrill Ride Records

Longest Tunnel (Hades - Mt. Olympus)
Highest Inversion (Gatekeeper - Cedar Point)
Love 'em! Thanks, I shall add.

I think it's probably best to leave EE as the most expensive coaster.

Highest/Fastest acceleration - Dodonpa: 0-106.9 mph in 1.8 seconds

I don't understand the "steepest" record... How is it you've chosen Takabisha and not:

??

I mean, that drop is a lot more than 121 degrees. Heck, it's more than the 180 on the S&S Screaming Squirrel/El Loco coasters...

I think it's because of the rotation of the car? Would Oblivion be a vertical drop if the riders faced outwards like they do on a drop tower? Well, obviously it would be, but would you say the rides were doing a world first vertical drop? I think it has to be the angle of the rider to the ground in a controlled and consistent manner. Otherwise you could argue that the 4D coasters have a 359 degree drop.

Most people don't count the screaming squirrel as a drop, because the rotation of the car around it is slowed by breaks. Of course you could also make the same argument against Takabisha.

Re: Obsure Coaster & Thrill Ride Records

^ No, you couldn't. There are brakes on the crest of the hill so that it creeps towards the edge of the drop, but no brakes on the drop itself.

Are we discussing "Steepest Coaster" again? I feel like posting a picture of a B&M Flying Coaster's Pretzel Loop just for tradition's sake. I mean, it steepens so much it makes a full circle and then some. If it had stopped steepening just before halfway through the element, and straightened out instead of curling backwards, it would have counted, wouldn't it? What keeps it from counting when it doesn't straighten out?

Done. Argue it all you want (actually don't), but when it comes to world records, it doesn't come much more official. Oh, and before some smart arse comes in with the "yeah, but they said Eejannaika had the most inversions once. LOL!" argument, they got rid of that ages ago.

Now instead of rehashing this over and over again in a topic that doesn't warrant it, can we go back to some different obscure coaster and thrill ride records? The point of the topic is simply to get a few interesting facts and stats for one of the CF pages; that's it.

It's fine if someone has said something "wrong", or if a record could be taken in a couple of different ways, but not when it's completely taking over the original purpose of the topic. If anyone wants to go through the whole "steepest or not" argument again, either dig up an old topic on it, or start a new one.

I get that Guiness is 'the authority' within their own book, BUT...

They only come out to verify a record when asked/invited to do so. Maybe they would declare one of the Ball Coasters the record holder if they were asked to come take a peek?

I dunno.

At this point, it's as pointless a record as 'steepest overbank' claims are.

So, Tower of Terror 2 is the world's highest roller coaster? I think that Guiness isn't always the most reliable source...

I think the point that I think everyone's trying to make, is that steepest coaster is difficult to define, and could be used to label a bunch of different coasters.
