Oakwood Updates

Genuine question.

As someone who hasn't ever been to Oakwood before, should I be looking at going here within the next 18 months to get on Megafobia and Speed before this place inevitably closes? I have to admit, the park's predicament looks fairly dismal with this addition.

^ Despite the doom and gloom that we (and I guess other forums) spout about the park, I don't think it's going to close any time soon. After the rumoured new park opens near Swansea in a few years (we'll see...) then it might close.

A new (okay, used) family coaster might not be the quality we're looking for, but at least it adds some quantity, which is a quality in itself. If it helps the park through rough times or inspires confidence in a larger investment down the line, I'm quite positive about this. If it doesn't help the gate numbers, though, it's a little gloomier. Still, I don't want to write off Oakwood just yet.

That's the same colour scheme from when it was at M&Ds...

The above was taken last summer. So they haven't even been bothered to get the damn thing repainted! :?

It looks slightly more vibrant but I imagine that's just lighting.

You know when some people evacuate their bowels when they're dying? This particular turd feels like Oakwood's death ****.

Oakwood really is awful. I always go on about it but I still don't think I've summed up how awful this park is. I want it gone forever.

Megafobia and Speed should be evacuated to any competent park that has the room for them. Both look like great coasters! I believe that coaster they bought is the same as Wicksteed's which I've ridden numerous times over the years, its a real back smasher.

^ I'd imagine that moving Megafobia would cost nearly as much as a new build. If Oakwood closes I wouldn't be surprised to see it rot.

What a cheap and nasty addition to the park, has no charm or uniqueness that Oakwood used to be known for. Just screams of typical Aspro, all money but no love.

I know people are trying to be semi-positive by putting Megafobia and Speed on a pedestal, but both are **** coasters and this park literally has no hope for salvation. Fact.

Its been slightly repainted in the same colour scheme, well the rust has been painted over ! And lo and behold the new sign went up today and its called ..........................................................

SPACE

Yes that is right, they havent even bothered to change the name of it !

Whilst answering Sandman's question in Trip Planning, I noticed that there is no longer a bus route to the park.

First time I've heard of a major UK park being cut off from public transport. That can't be good for visitor numbers.

Oh yeah, Space rollercoaster. Yay!

I'm pretty sure there never was a bus route there! Certainly wasn't when I went in 2006(ish), and certainly wasn't when we went on the live!

I think you've had too much booze!! :drinking:

on the live visit, you're right about fobia - I actually quite liked speed though!

Its an awful decision - that one, and the one at wicksteed are terrible coasters - I'd rather reride tornado!

There has never been public transport to it, atlhough the local bus company Silcox has just gone bankrupt and new companies have taken over the routes, there are talks with the local councils to add stops at Oakwood and Bluestone, that would certainly be good for the park.

Not that anyone cares but I went to Oakwood yesterday and to be fair apart from the coaster looking even more dreadful close up they have tidied the area a bit so it doesn't look so ****. Although with a pinfari there I don't think I could call the area good...

Classic case of trying to polish a turd here...

The only 'Oakwood Update' I'll be looking forward to seeing is the "The park is closing down".
I'd settle for "The park is finally getting its act together". I quite like the park itself, but it really needs to be run properly. That said, there's no sign of that happening any time soon. I'm quite glad I've already got the cred, so I don't have to drag myself all the way back down there for a +1.
