^ First I have heard about that, only heard about Loggers, where has it been suggested Dragon Falls will do the same?

With Flume and Loggers both out for 2016 and Chessington having scrapped its new ride for next year, things seem to be a bit all up in the air.
The Flume isn't shut next year? Just Loggers Leap.

The flume is as well it's getting the same treatment as loggers.

To be fair on Merlin though, they're still pushing on with the Air plans for 2016 and there's been nothing to suggest that SW8 won't happen in 2017 either.

There has been something to suggest that SW8 won't happen in 2017.

In Merlin's September Trading Update Presentation (accessible here: http://www.merlinentertainments.biz/res ... sentations ), there was this slide which shows when major investments are planned:

So it certainly suggests there won't be a major addition in 2017 for Alton. And it makes sense really; Merlin work on a 4 year investment cycle at the parks (high, low, low, low apparently lol). With 4 parks in the UK, it surely makes more sense to have each park have its major additions in different years. So, I'd be expecting a major addition at Alton in 2018, since that's the 'free year' at the moment.

I found a photo on a fan page somewhere that showed groundwork was being done for the new chessington ride (or at least that was what it looked like and they said it was) but I can't find it now. Sounds like lots of things are up in the air still so it might have been for something else.

EDIT: Found it. Scroll down on this page:

I can't exactly see Merlin not adding another coaster at their flagship park for 5 years though.....

Why not?

They were originally planning to not add a major coaster for 4 years, is 1 potential extra year really going to make that much a difference.

Plus, in those intervening years, they'll have added CBeebies Land, done some work to Air (and if rumours are true, that'll basically be a new coaster), plus some other small scale additions. Not exactly bad work.

And we're potentially looking at at least 8 years between major coasters at Thorpe, so it's not exactly surprising under Merlin.

Because, originally there was only supposed to be a 3 year gap and Alton is by quite some margin, the country's most popular park (yeah, I know the Smiler has had an effect, but), so surely Merlin would want to continue with high investments within a 3-4 year gap? What I'm saying is that having 5 years between major investments, wouldn't that be a bit too long?

I don't know, but whilst it's not a coaster, WC16 is still a major ride, opening 4 years after their last one.

Here's how its probably going to go...

Chessington Facebook page: "We have a mindblowing awesome top secret first-for-the-UK ride coming soon NEW for 2016! You're not going to believe your eyes! #watchdisspace" GP John Smith comments "Hi, is this going to be a brand new rollercoaster?" to which they reply "You never know John, we have something really exciting planned ;)"

A few months down the line: *Teases on Facebook page with a picture of a random tree or something* "We wonder what this could be?? Shhhhhhhh ;) #new #2016 #watchdisspace"

A week before opening: "Here's our amazing first in the UK ride!" *Reveals Zamperla Watermania with a dash of jungle explorer esque theming*

"Want to get more out of your adventure filled day and spend less time queueing? Fasttrack tickets for this ride will only £4.99 per adult and 10% off for under 5s!"

Chessington have confirmed that the Safari Skyway monorail is being removed*.

Sad news IMO. Yes it was dated, but it was a nice way to chill for a bit.

* I bet the track/supports will stay for many years.

Yeah that is a shame. It's nice to travel around above the animals in the Zoo. I think the worst part about this though is knowing that it'll just be there rotting for seasons to come! :(

Just seen on Facebook that apparently Tomb Blaster is currently undergoing a £800,000 refurbishment. Including upgraded sound, lighting, theming and ride cars.

If this is true, then it's good to finally some actual TLC at Chessington.

It majorly needs it, last time I rode it, half of the stuff wasn't working. There's a big difference between something having 'charm' because of it's dilapidated appearance (see River Caves in Blackpool) and it just being damn right ****.

£800,000 spent on upgrading Tomb Blaster means that you'll be getting nothing actually new for at least the next couple of years.

It's probably a good thing to sort out the actual STATE of that dump before adding anything, but it's hardly anything to get excited about.

F**king awful place.

Just found out that Tomb Blaster isn't reopening until 2017 due to the refurb work....!

Also the crappy Zamperla's water ride has been cancelled.

Great, go Chessington.

A make over of a ride where the budget is only £800,000 shouldn't take a season to do, so that's just an excuse.

Also, no new ride again, great idea.

I bet the entrance fee still goes up to an even more ridiculous price.

That park though.
