"Mumbo Jumbo" - S&S El Loco for Flamingo Land

I love the way this topic has attracted intelligent postings by clever people (with the exception of Ben and UC's rant above ) and Saw's topic is full of utter trash posts (with the eception of neo's updates).

Mumbo Jumbo - The thinking man's coaster.

Clear as crystal Mike T you mug.

Do you think GWR would actually turn up if a smart-ass like you could say "HEY GAIZ GO TO INDIANA BEACH LOLZ".

Gordon Gibb is the real deal, he isn't a mug, unlike your good self.

Bravo Pierre.

Well done...well done for biting at the bullet and taking a blatant shot at me why you could. You obviously wouldn't be saying this had Ian not posted that tidbit of information, so quit acting like you know people's places when you don't. My response to you had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the drop's angle was 112 degrees, rather pointing out your blatant inability to read the most obvious details in a press release - rather, skipping it all and looking at the graphics instead. Perhaps if you read to begin with, I wouldn't have pointed out the facts to you - and maybe I could have engaged in some quality discussion with you. But nope, 22 year old Pierre had to call names like a 5 year old because somebody suggested that he do the simplest of tasks... read the document.

Since we're on the subject of being crystal clear, let me make your comment clear to you...

It’s been quoted as 112 degrees in one video by an operations manager... they're still marketing it as the worlds steepest drop on a rollercoaster everywhere else so it could have been an incorrect quote?? And as far I'm aware Flamingo Lands marketing dept hasn't taken a leaf out of PBB's Marketing dept, before anyone else says it.

If it was an incorrect quote (which it's not) it wouldn't have been listed in the press release to begin with. If you're going to market something as having the world’s steepest drop, chances are you don't want to up that statistic. Now this is all considering that before Ian's tidbit of information, we were all under the impression that Steel Hawg boasted a 120 degree drop...making what I said a very valid and understandable comment... (Again let’s review)

That'd be like giving the title to Millennium Force back in 2000 full knowing that Oblivion's drop was *shock* a whole 8 degrees steeper. If Gordon Gibb want's to talk about being the real deal, how about not pretending his ride is something that it obviously didn't achieve...

So let’s do the math Pierre - before Ian's post we knew the following:

1) Mumbo Jumbo had been mentioned having a 112 degree first drop by (as quoted by you)
an operations manager...

2) Steel Hawg has been listed as having a 120 degree first drop for the past 14 months. Don't believe me? Let’s recap THAT press release:

Steel Hawg, which will rise 96 feet above ground and feature a 120º first drop along with multiple inversions, will be designed and constructed by ride manufacturer S & S Worldwide, Inc. of Logan, Utah. The company also produced Indiana Beach's popular Double Shot tower ride and its Frog Hopper kiddie ride. "We've had an excellent relationship with S & S over the years and we're looking forward to continuing that relationship with Steel Hawg," stated Spackman. "The coaster will be a very distinctive ride with tight turns, 90º banks, inversions, and one-of-a-kind elements. However, with a height limit of 48 inches, it's also a ride designed for families to enjoy together."

3) Mumbo Jumbo's press release states that it's not only going to break records, but its first drop is of 112 degrees; making it 8 degrees shy of what its counterpart in Indiana achieved when it opened last July... Again let’s recap...

Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire has revealed its new rollercoaster concept for the 2009 season and, it’s a world’s first! The ride; named ‘Mumbo Jumbo’, will feature the most extreme drop in history plunging thrill seekers 112o from a high point of 30 metres generating in excess of 4Gs on it’s passengers.

Does the math not add up to you Pierre, or are you just having a day and feel like throwing names at people over the internet? Get over yourself, learn how to read and not just look at pictures next time, then assess the situation and determine whether the next comments that fly out of your mouth warrant the kind of language you choose to use to express your thoughts...

Thanks...

Hahahahaha.
Admittedly I missed Ians "Press Release" post with it being at the bottom of a page. Also your point as understandable and valid, but the way you put it across was a bit twatish (just like this post I'm quoting tbh) which is why I'm utterly glad you were made to look a bit of a mug in the end result.

If you look I said I had faith in the marketing dept as in they're not making **** up, I never said it wasn't 112°, I just wasn't 100% sure (as I hadn't read the press release!)... oh I like how you missed that part of my post in your quotes... have a bravo in return for that.

So admittedly the side of my argument I was coming from was flawed, but nevertheless, its still been proven to be a record breaker...

And if you didn't post such arrogant bollocks as

****ing hell UC, I didn't realise you had a love child.

Ok, you've both made your points now. Continute this on PMs if you must.

looks like it. RCDB says mumbo jumbo is 2.5ft higher, which could account for the 1 degree steeper drop.

I think that if flamingo land gets just one more good roller-coaster, it could defenatly be thought about in the uk's best park

^Yeah, actually, as soon as they realise that people (apart from NIMBY neighbours) don't hate Woodies, and get the money to build one (I'm counting on 2011 or 2012), Flamingoland may grab one of those sought-after top spots. Thorpe has little room and Alton has bad neighbours. What obstacles of the unovercomable kind is there really for 'Mingo?

FL does have the capacity to build what they want..probably. When driving through the tiny village it's in, you wouldn't even realise that it's there. The park is so far set back from the village and main road (which is basically a country lane), I doubt you could hear much noise from the park.

The land around it also quite flat if I remember and you can see some of the rides, namely Cliffhanger and Kumali, from the main road as you drive towards it.

So in theory they have no height limit and no noise limitations.

That's my guess anyway.

I don't think the locals are too fussed on height limits, as long as it isn't garish.

Thats why they removed Cliffhangers Red 'n' White cladding.

As for noise well... they had two of the noisiest coasters I've ever heard in Bullet & Magnum Force so that isn't really a problem.

Flamingo Land just need to be careful they don't get ahead of themselves and upset the local council, as Cliffhanger cladding wasn't included on planning application, and it was also built in a different place as it was originally proposed. Then they began a spat ... "Ryedale would sink without us" blah blah blah...

Do it again and Ryedale councils could get a little pissed off with them on their high horses.

FL are quickly becoming one of the UK's top parks. They have loads of land, hardly any nasty neighbours and quite alot of cash. :--D
With the addition of Mumbo Jumbo they also have quite a good range of rides.
I can really see FL getting a Intamin ML or a small Intamin Pre-Fab in the 2010/2011 season.

Flamingoland really need to up their prescence in the north of the UK really. Hardly anyone I know in Manchester has heard of them.

Another ride (NOT a crappy vekoma) alongside Mumbo would do them wonders. C'mon Mega-Lite!

^ The truth is, you just want a mega-lite in Britain.

The chances of a mega-lite drawing a crowd is low. After all non-coaster enthusiasts don't know what the hell it is. I think something like Stealth/ Colossus would draw the public more. In other words gimmicks work better than quality in the long run, as long as the gimmicks are good they will live.

Before this topic lowers itself to the cesspit-quality of the Alton Rumour and the Saw construction topics*, please can we not speculate on what FL may get but keep this one focused on Mumbo Jumbo. Cheers.

* with the exceptions of furie's history lessons and neo's updates.

By the way, Pokemaniac, Thorpe do have room to expand, they will just keep filling that lake in I reckon... anywho

I think that this ride will probably make the parks attendance figures rise, but I do think it's going to be a bit strange having a Wild Mouse and Mumbo Jumbo in the park together, they seem so alike in some way.

How the hell does a Maurer wild mouse and an El loco seem alike?
Maybe they both have bi-rail track? Is that all you are basing that one on?

One is about 50ft hight, the other is over double. One has unbanked corners and no inversions.

They are nothing alike!
Thats kind of like saying, it's weird having Nemesis and Air in the same park let alone area. Or it's weird having Rattlesnake and Dragons Fury in the same park. And to some extent, having Saw and Colossus in the same park.

yeah. i see where he's coming from too. It's the supports and the compact way it all holds to itself.

that being said, i can't fathom why this would be a reason not to have both in the same park.

Anyone got anymore infomation on the opening date for this (Press release just says July)? I am planning a weekend up there in july (hopfully) and i want to go once this is open.

Sorry for double post, the last post is about a month old.

^ It'll open up the weekend after you go in July as that's what always happens.

I don't think we'll get a solid date until May time, that way the park are not under any pressure to have it completed by a certain deadline (apart from 31st July ).
