Maelstrom at Epcot to become a Frozen Attraction

Ok so it's just a rumour still but it's looking increasingly likely Maelstrom in Norway at Epcot's World Showcase could be rethemed to become a Frozen attraction

http://wdwnt.com/blog/2014/08/rumor-mae ... ttraction/

The reasons this rumour has come up is that after the 28th September you won't be able to book fast passes for it on the new fast pass+ system.

Having only just ridden this for the first time it will be a shame, it is really good and I like how well its themed. Something I noticed is they've put a Frozen walkthrough thing at the front of Norway with various models of the characters and scenes so perhaps Frozen is coming to Epcot.

It's a very strong rumour that's been around for months now.

It's a shame in a way as I really don't think the ride will be able to cope with the queues it's will receive if it happens. Plus I really don't think rides themed to a Disney film belong at Epcot anyway it's yet another quick fix by Disney.

I do hope they get rid of the film after the ride though :)

Do I think that Frozen is a fun, adorable kids movie highlighted by the wick-ed-ly talented, the one and only Adele Duhzeem? Yes. It's a fine family movie.

Do I think Frozen attractions have been overdone to absolute ****? Absolutely. Never been to Disney but this seems to depart from the original idea of EPCOT, which was a glimpse into a future world rather than a cartoon world. Unfortunately that line is being blurred with nothing more than a pure money grabber and queue filler.

There are no frozen attractions, yes there is an event which is just on for a few months but no attraction.

It's not a money grabbing queue filler at all as the ride is already there it's just getting a re theme that's all. The ride is popular as it is anyway it will just get more popular.

I can understand all the people angry with an EPCOT attraction based off characters. I don't understand why people like the attraction though?

Also, the boat ride in Mexico had the three caballeros added and it's added something interesting to what could have simply been another It's a small world (Mexico edition). If what they're doing to Maelstrom is similar in that they add the characters to just make it more interesting (the ride has a troll, the film has a family of them etc) then I'm all for it to be honest. But the reality is we have no idea what's happening it could just be a prolonged refurb for all we know.

I'd also like to point out that the fan sites seem unhappy about this but were fine with the rumour of Ratatouille being added to the France pavilion.

Tbh peep I think people are ok with new attractions but are getting fed up with quick fixes of old attractions when other parks are adding new stuff.

Yes and no on the EPCOT thing. Its really 2 parks, the front loop which focuses on communication and technology of "tomorrow", and the back loop which is the World Showcase, which is more of a highlight of countries.

I understand why traditionalists would despise this idea. EPCOT was supposed to be character free (I believe the reason why the sewer grates have Mickey Ears was so the Imagineers could sneak Mickey into the park). However that idea has been gone for as long as I have been going to EPCOT (20 something years?).

That being said, as Marc said they have a meet n greet and a summer firework show. My mother-in-law, who works in Merchandise at EPCOT, says they still cant keep anything Frozen on the shelves, it sells out as soon as it goes in stock. It makes sense for them to synergize this brand into the parks, as it will go down with Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, etc.... as a much watch children's classic.

It is a real shame if it's true and ride is fundamentally changed, in my opinion as Maelstrom is my favourite dark boat ride. The film at the end can go but I hope the ride stays as it is!

Surely a better place for a Frozen attraction/attractions would be Hollywood Studios? If LMA was removed to free up space. Plus there is already a Frozen show and fireworks there.

The show/fireworks in the Studio are only a summer event, rather than a perm addition...

Makes perfect sense for Frozen to hop into the Norway pavilion, not that I've ever done Maelstrom mind... Wonder if the people who are seemingly annoyed by this concept were equally upset by the addition of Finding Nemo and Three Caballeros into the park as well...

Be interesting to see if they keep the existing ride system or not... A dark boat ride journey through the film could easily work... Could easily have a jump scare at the turntable sequence...

I personally think Frozen is OVERHYPED. I get it that its Disney's cash cow but a better place for this attraction would be Hollywood Studio, not Epcot. The Ratatouille restaurant actually show cases the culinary experience of France, The Seas with Nemo showcases obviously the ocean and its wonders, and Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros showcases a bit of Mexican culture with a Disney twist which is fine since its the World Showcase. Frozen didn't specify anything cultural related to Norway even though the movie took place there. Unless this attraction showcases Norway's wonders, It would be a good fit.

It is the most logical place to put it but as said it's not new and many people feel with the amount if money the parks earn they should be investing in new rides and attractions.

Look at Epcot after soarin it's had no new attractions, nothing apart from restaurants and quick fix re themes.

Where the new countries that were meant to happen, why not do something with the empty buildings?

The Mexico attraction is actually not popular.

This will be, tbh I don't like the current ride anyway but the could build a brand new frozen attraction.

True dat. We walked on both the times we went on it, I think the problem with this is that no one knows it's there especially as it's at the back of the darkened pyramid thing.

There is already Nemo in that Seas pavilion and the Lion King thing near Soarin' (if that's still there?), so I'm not buying the 'omg, it'll bring characters to Epcot, noooo!' crap.

They could stick a ride in where you have to eat **** and it'd still be the most fun at Epcot, so I'm for this.

I agree with Ben. Anything to improve what is actually the dullest Disney park somewhat better, I'm for it.
