Wednesday 8th May

Rach and I left my house at a 3:30 AM to catch a bus to lovely Croydon to get a train to London Gatwick airport. It was way too early to be up and functioning but we managed it somehow. We got to Gatwick with plenty of time to spare. We had a lovely breakfast at the 'Spoons, Rach got a new bag for her camera before we headed to our gate. The flight with easyJet was like any other flight with them, simple, short and not comfy enough for a snooze. There was a burden who was causing bag faff though which delayed us a bit but due to some pilot magic we landed bang on time.

We arrived in Madrid around 11 AM and we headed straight for the Metro station. It was a long walk to the Metro station, we hadn't anticipated this. Still, we managed to finally get there and purchase a visitor pass for 2 days which came to €13.40. Which we thought was good value, maybe it wasn't but it was a lot easier than faffing with buying tickets every time.

We got on the train down to 'Nuevos Ministerios' to change over to the dark blue line (10) and catch another train to 'Batan' station. Right outside the station is Parque de Atracciones. We couldn't believe how easy it was to get here and it was so quick. I think it took us about an hour to get from off the plane to the park gates.

The weather was a little cloudy throughout the day but it was fairly warm (around 20*C). We purchased our tickets and entered the park. Our first impressions were that the park was really nice and 'WTF is that ride?'

945242_10152820740940360_22883523_n.jpg

It's a monorail attraction themed to Zeppelins, this was something we had to ride at some point. Still there was a massive star flyer right in front of us and it didn't have a queue so after waiting for the current cycle to finish we went on. We then had to wait for more people to turn up.

The ride actually had some nice theming elements dotted about (including some cool UFOs attached to the top of the tower). I spent most of the ride making myself feel ill by trying to focus on the beautiful views. You can see the rest of the giant park that the amusement park sits in and the whole of Madrid and the mountains off in the distance. Madrid looked like a beautiful place, we couldn't wait to see it close up later on in the day.

We hadn't really seen or heard any of the coasters going which really worried us. The fact the park felt dead wasn't helping. We went over to Abismo in hope of it opening. Turns out it just has stupid capacity rules. Abismo won't run until there's enough people to fill the whole train, how burdenous. Still, we managed to go over just as one of the several school groups joined the queue. After one cycle we were on.

Our initial reaction was simply: "That was WEIRD!" I don't think either of us could understand if we like it or loathed it. We definitely loathed the restraints as its still the design where half way round it decides to cut you in half and nearly wins. I don't really like hangtime which this has plenty of near the start so I didn't get off to a good start but the rest is ok despite the staple of death.

We then walked round to Tarantula, the park's spinning coaster. I'd heard good things about this coaster and I do like a good spinner. This one is odd, it's a great coaster yet barely spins. Definitely one of the better ones out there though. The odd Nemesis-like theming in the queue is pretty cool too (photos of that later).

I wanted to check out the random shooty thing that is sort of attached to the coaster. It was odd. Our guns didn't work which we didn't approve of, you didn't see your score until you got back to the station and was just very cheap looking. I suppose it's a good effort for a park that doesn't really seem to invest in theming.

Next it was time to see if Intamin could do a better job than Vekoma at making an invert. Once again there was a wait for more people. Tornado required 24 peeps before loading and despatch! Couldn't believe it, TWENTY FOUR PEEPS! As you can imagine, it barely runs throughout the day though once again we were lucky enough to time it with the arrival of one of the school groups.

Bloody hell this thing was intense....and SMOOTH! We both loved it, a fantastic coaster from the moment you leave the lift hill right till you touch the break run. It tends to barely make it over the vertical loops but I felt like it sort of added to the experience, gave you time to appreciate the awesome. The corkscrew was probably my favourite moment, it's just nuts.

We then randomly decided to ride the chairswing. Not much to say apart from it had a really long cycle so we both felt very dizzy afterwards.

936844_10152820749340360_965519570_n.jpg

The Intamin drop tower was walk on so we went straight on that. It was great, very tall. Managed to really hurt a body part on the way down, that bit wasn't fun.

942770_10152820763480360_227901797_n.jpg

We then rode the wild mouse cred which is the same as all the others. I quite like them though and it was fun when one of the brakes wasn't turned on and we just flew through unexpectedly.

As we were taking photos of the awesome fort which serves as an entrance for TNT Mine train cred and the splash boat we noticed a ride we'd never seen before. I was so curious I wandered over to it, I was fascinated, how could a ride like this exist? Just looking at it made me happy and excited. Ladies and Gentleman I present to you my favourite ride ever... TELESAURIO!

270849_10152820753595360_877409813_n.jpg

Yes, this ride combines the fairly tame concept of the dumbos ride, makes it bigger, adds some extra spinny action and themes it to ROBOT F*CKING PTERODACTYLS!!!!!!!! I don't know who made it but I want to shake their hand, it's just so weird and wonderful and I'm so glad I've experienced it. I filmed a POV to show off it's brilliance...

I had to calm myself down after that. It was time to go grab the TNT mine train cred. Here's the fab fort...

It's a great family coaster, so smooth. The transitions are beautiful and it's surprisingly fast, there's clearly a very good reason the lift hill pretty much comes to a stand still when you reach the top.

Hearing that it's rare adults are allowed on the kids coasters alone we were concerned that we wouldn't get on the last two creds at the park. However the fab lady working on Vagones Locos didn't seem to care, I think she was just happy to see human beings. Obscure cred obtained we tried our luck with the airplane theme cred. Once again, no hassle, we were very happy. Both the creds suck but it was another +2 to the count.

We then went on TNT again because it's awesome.

944111_10152820761675360_266571885_n.jpg

I think we grabbed some food next. I had a little pizza like thing which was nice and then some lovely melty ice cream. After food we headed over to los Rapidos. I was concerned for my belongings as we had no idea how wet these rapids were and I'm usually soaked on every water ride. It turned out ok and I think the two little girls sitting opposite us got more wet. It was a fun ride though and actually relied on actual rapids to get us wet. Good times.

lolz

I wanted to do the shooty Tarantula thing again because it was ridiculous. This time my gun decided to work but Rach was once again burdened with one that didn't.

We then went round to Tornado for another two goes. We then rode the chairswings for a second time and watched the work being done on the flat ride which later on crushed a staff member working on it. Fun.

We then checked out Desperados which is one of those sit on a seat and shoot at a screen things. It was fun but a bit pointless being in a theme park.

We were going to go on the Zeppelin ride next but La Jungla caught our attention instead. No idea what it was we meandered through the queueline to discover a Jungle Cruise rip-off. To be fair to them they had put a lot of effort into the attraction and most of the animatronics were still working.

It was then time for the ride we were really looking forward to. The Zeppelin!

It turns out to be a 9 min meander around most of the park. Very random but we enjoyed the tranquilness of it.

We then went to check out the kids area. There was a typical classic car ride but the theming for this one was weird, the Eiffel tower and dinosaurs? If someone knows the connection please let me know!

182743_10152820785635360_2061917020_n.jpg

Anyway we found the porn ponies and decided to give them a go. Unlike all the others we've seen these ones go round in groups. Very unusual.

215239_10152820790115360_754976261_n.jpg

The theming was pretty decent if a little random. We were running out of rides we wanted to go on so we went on TNT once more, tried out the scary carousel (boars and tigers?) which had violent movements and then rode the best ride ever another two times.

945041_10152820793165360_1630114967_n.jpg

We left the park satisfied and glad we'd been. It was a really nice, clean park with a random selection of rides. I think the only thing that lets it down is the operations and silly rules but apart from that it's a great place.

We hopped back onto the Metro and checked in to our hotel which was very close to Plaza de Espana. Turns out the road we were on was like Madrid's version of the Strand or Times Sq. Loads of cinemas, theatres and restaurants. Happy about the excellent location we went up the room which turned out to be modern and very big. Happy days. We relaxed a little bit before going on a tourist trek around the area and search for food based times.

We walked over towards the massive palace, stopping and looking at several randomly cool places on the way.

21126_10152820793540360_1569200311_n.jpg

The square above had lots of street 'entertainers' and all the usual branded places you'd find in a touristy area.

At the back is some huge gardens but we didn't go down there. It's a must for when I next go to Madrid. We ended up going for some pizza near our hotel. It was good if a little burnt around the edges.

We then went over to Plaza de Espana which had a really cool and very tall monument.

In my 2 seconds of research a couple of nights before I'd found out that there was an Egyptian temple nearby and being a mega fan of Egyptian architecture I just HAD to check it out. Turns out it's a beautiful place to visit at night.

Tired and exhausted we went back to the hotel room and died.

Thanks for reading, you know you want to leave a comment to show me you love me. I'll be back soon with part two!

Brilliant Peep - love the Egyptian building in the dark, fantastic!

The park is one of those really odd ones where I can never work out if it's worth going to or not. It's got lots of "special", but nothing seems good. Still, you seem to have managed to fill the day :)

Those Intamin inverts are the UGLIEST coasters ever though

PdA is a strange park, but I think you done the right thing in going there first, before Parque Warner. We done it the other way around, and we were very impressed with Parque Warner, but not so with PdA.

Also find it odd how they group all the rides together, with all the thrill rides in one area, all the family-thrill in another, and the kiddy rides in another.

I did PdA before PW, and I did enjoy it but found that after a while I was bored and ready to leave, where as I never had those thoughts when I was at PW.

Exactly what I thought about Abismo, oddly I enjoyed it but felt a bit uncomfortable on it, we did it a second time during our trip just to see what our second impression of it would be.

A strange coaster but better than G-Farce at DMP!

^Defo, everything is better than G-Force!

re Tornado - Haha, yes they are so ugly, the ridiculous supports all over the place on the vertical loop is insane.

Yeah I'm not sure laying the park out like that is a good idea, a bit of a pain if you're a family with all age groups.

Thursday 9th May

We had a reasonable start to the day which was nice so we got ready, checked out and headed out in search of food. We grabbed some breakfast at the Starbucks at the end of the street as I was really in the mood for a Frappacino. The Metro station was also right outside so we headed down and caught a dark blue line train (10) to Tribunal so we could change to the Light Blue line (1). We took this train down to Atocha Renfe. We had a lovely conversation with a random lady on this train. Aww, she was so sweet, I love random moments like that <3

At Atocha Renfe we had to purchase a ticket to Pinto. Using the machines we found a brilliant offer where you could pretty much buy your entrance into Parque Warner too so we did that and basically paid less for entrance and got our rail fare included... Win!

We just missed a train by like seconds which was annoying but that was because the station was poorly designed and we ended up asking a staff member which platform we needed. Oh well, we waited the 20+ mins for the next one. It was empty and there were nice screens informing everyone of where it was stopping. There were also announcements in English.

We had arrived at Pinto! The next part we were concerned about as info on the nets barely existed much to our annoyance. So, here's a little guide...

934743_10152820813440360_1913395448_n.jpg

That is the train station, exit out of the station building (where they were installing new shiny gates), cross straight over the car park, cross this crossing...

7758_10152820813415360_216789756_n.jpg

And voila! One bus stop...

224353_10152820813470360_1020787169_n.jpg

431823_10152820813555360_1890005011_n.jpg

You just wait around for the next 413 bus which should stop at the park. Ask the driver if you're unsure (or just follow the staff getting on!). It costs €2 each way and takes about 20-30 mins.

As we pulled into the car park all I could see (read as: cared about) was the Giant Inverted CRED. After riding one at Six Flags New England last year I'm in love with them. I was as giddy as a little school girl. Talking of which, once again we had managed to turn up on a day where there were loads of school groups. Moreso than the day before so there were actual queues for some rides but it wasn't burdenous.

We took our train ticket over to the left of the entrance to a little kiosk where a gentleman took our tickets and returned with them, a map and actual tickets for the parks. I loved this, two days in a row we had actual physical bits of card allowing us to enter, I miss park tickets :(

270850_10152820813630360_870094830_n.jpg

After a less than bothered security bag check we then entered the park. I had a massive grin on my face, I just wanted to run around and take millions of photos. First we had to deal with school group faff with getting a locker for our big bags. These lockers were huge, was €5 for a locker key which meant you could open and close it as many times as you like and there was a €10 deposit so you didn't run off with the key.

I have a major soft spot for heavily themed parks, especially if they are film related so I instantly fell in love with this place.

431881_10152820816850360_527884560_n.jpg

The park felt really easy to navigate, basically a large circle. We headed straight for Stunt Fall in case it closed or something. Everyone else had a similar idea, it had a late opening but due to us arriving a little late we only had to wait 10 minutes.

393087_10152820818455360_168247612_n.jpg

It was then time, people were boarding, I was getting way too excited. We managed to get on the forth train. The first three rows and the last two rows weren't open though which upset me so we sat as close to the back as poss. Oh my GAWD, I forgot just how ridiculously incredible they are. The falling sensation is arguably better than any drop tower and the rush as you speed through the station is incredible. It felt like we barely made it over the vertical loop and it was just amazing. I love it.

I love it so much, gah, why can't we have one of these in the UK?

We then continued along the amazingly themed streets and ended up at Superman. We joined the queue which didn't look long but took a long time. Not only was there only one train operation but there were only two staff members, one in the control booth and one checking all the restraints. How burdenous. Still, we finally managed to get on and it was good. There were several quite harsh trims though which I thought ruined it. Especially the one before the little air time hill, it totally kills any potential air time.

It was then time to check out the Batman clone. I love the station building theming but the actual ride we both find a bit too intense. Although I enjoyed it more than I did when I first rode one in America.

The whole Batman area was amazing, it looked like there used to be some sort of show in the area involving the fake railway bridge? The Joker themed dodgems looked fab...

It was then time to enter the Wild West themed area which once again, was fab. We headed straight for Coaster Express. It looks quite impressive. However the ride experience was quite the opposite. It jumps up and down as it speeds round the track, it felt like my spine was going to shatter, horrible feeling the entire way around. I think our ORP explains it best...

I spotted a breakdance next to Coaster Express and just had to ride it. It wasn't the best one I've been on but it was good. Probably the closest to how Rodeo used to be at Chessie.

We went over to the Tom and Jerry coaster next which was your typical Tivoli family coaster. I like these coasters, they're quite good fun.

The sign on the exit platform amused us.

We checked out the rest of the Looney Tunes area and we bumped into Jerry and the Martian (name escapes me right now).

The Wilde Coyote themed coaster was next which was great. Another really fun family coaster.

I was confused to see Cow and Chicken on some shop signs. Anyone else remember them?

There is a brilliant water feature which we both ran through due to the hot weather.

We rode the Scooby Doo dark ride next which I loved. It's a shooty ride but stuff tends to happen if you hit a target, my favourite type of shooty ride.

We grabbed some food which was once again pizza. It was actually really awesome and for the price was a decent amount of food. Yay for decent park food. We had a browse through the tat shop before moving on to some of the other rides the park had to offer. Our first stop was Cine Tour. Another vintage car ride which meanders around some theming.

It's a really long ride.

But gives some nice views of Stunt Fall.

Talking of Stunt Fall, we went for another go. Yep, still epic.

We checked out the madhouse next which is nicely themed.

Outside a gentleman tried to scare Rach.

He did have some really cool red contact lenses in. The interior queueline was nicely themed but was so dark that it took ages to adjust to the dim light in the room after coming in from the sun. The pre show was just a load of Spanish so we had no idea what was going on, a Vampire appeared, I assume he used to be the owner of the house or something and now he's cursed? I might read up on it later. The main room of the madhouse was large and nicely themed. The lap bar decided to pretty much staple me and the other guy in our section which was unpleasant.

The music for the ride was fantastic and there were some nice lighting effects used. The thing that impressed me the most was a skeletal animatronic which moved and reacted throughout the ride, I didn't see that coming. Would have been nice with some other effects but it was definitely one of the better ones I've ridden.

We decided to run over to catch the new 'parade' in the kids area. It was simply the character vehicles which they use around the park all at the same time. It was a bit random and short.

Rach decided to check out the rapids. As we didn't want our cameras and that to get wet Rach did the rapids and I did the log flume. Sounds like it was a great ride with some fantastic rapids, she came off quite moist.

We then went over to the log flume. I ended up sitting in the front with a guy from Malaga, we actually had a little chat all the way around, his English was amazing. The ride had several surprises up it's sleeve. The first drop was backwards and has a weirdly shaped (and quite high) bunny hill (cries of SUCH A CRED were needed). The second surprise was that before the next lift hill it was more like a rapids, the boat would proper bounce up and down in the trough, was really exciting, you never knew if you were going to randomly get drenched. The main drop was ridiculous and amazing. Rach took some fab shots of me and my new random friends coming down and getting drenched...

Such a great ride. I was falling in love with this park but we were running out of time. Boo! I wanted to see what the random Batman dark ride was and Rach wanted to try out the drop tower so we split. The Batman ride is nicely themed but dated, badly. It's a simulator ride where you join Batman in stopping Catwoman, the Joker and Mr Freeze steal a diamond and cause havok. Oddly enough everyone else burst into spontaneous applause at the end. I just wanted off because the awful projection annoyed me lol.

I then met back up with Rach and we went over for one more ride on Superman. The queue wasn't much shorter than our first ride on it.

It was then time for us to leave. We took some extra photos for the CF park guide, got some ice cream, purchased some tat and left the park.

We had to wait about 15 mins before the bus turned up which wasn't too bad. After a couple of trains we were back at the airport and ready to go. A couple of hours later and we were back in damp London.

I really loved Madrid and I plan on going back at some point in the future. Both parks were fantastic despite the fowl operations on some of the coasters. It would have been nice to have spent even more time in Parque Warner, checked out some of the shows and that. It would have been awesome to see more of Madrid itself, it felt like a really awesome place.

Thanks for the comments so far guys and for reading through my massive posts. :D

When I went a few years ago, I thought PW was so close to being a world class park, but was instead just "awesome".

Loved batman and superman, and didn't find coaster express that terrible (particularly compared to bandit!)

PDA had a lot of good stuff too - particularly the horror walkthrough! (thought the drop tower was a bit of a let down (pun not intended) though)

The water rides at both parks were excelent too!

I pretty much share the same thoughts on PW, I loved it. And I happily spent two days just milling around the park, riding the awsome rides (and this was with Stunt Fall closed...)

Did you see the Splash Battle?

The whole Batman area was amazing, it looked like there used to be some sort of show in the area involving the fake railway bridge? The Joker themed dodgems looked fab...

Last year in August they had three shows on a day in that area, it was quite good but nothing too amazing;

Thanks for the report from PW, I enjoyed reading it, can't wait to be back there for two days in August!

John!

Any respect for you I had vanished when you proclaimed to love Stunt Fall. Clearly the headbanging gave you a mild stroke and made you think that the ride is decent and acceptable, so i'll let you off.

I LOVED Parque Warner when I went, the only thing it needs is SHADE. I think the best ride there is Coaster Express, again you must have been suffering from Stunt fall when you rode it and came off thinking it is a terrible ride. Actually the rapids are the best ride there, 9 people in a boat and it spins like a mother.

And Madrid is such a gorgeous city, I love the random Egyptian temple <3 Must go back again one day for more red wine and chicos.
