Part 22 - Original X-car

Sky-Line park was really a no brainer to visit since we were in the neighbourhood and they have 5 coasters to ride, so stopping there for a few hours seemed like the thing to do, so we did. They have many really quirky stuff and the whole place is much like a massive fairground...

Ptr2011_14_3_34.jpg

Yay, Sky-Line park

Ptr2011_14_3_01.jpg

Sweet I'll be getting my first Butterfly today

Ptr2011_14_3_02.jpg

First up though were the old Schwarzkopf

Ptr2011_14_3_03.jpg

Old and really loud

Ptr2011_14_3_04.jpg

But ace non the less

Ptr2011_14_3_05.jpg

My niece would kill to ride this one :)

Ptr2011_14_3_09.jpg

One of these strange stuff, this was the third I have ridden and by far the worst...

Ptr2011_14_3_10.jpg

WTF, is that strange thing

Ptr2011_14_3_11.jpg

Caripro, suspended, spinning coaster of death

Ptr2011_14_3_29.jpg

Absolutely rubbish

Ptr2011_14_3_12.jpg

The main reason we came

Ptr2011_14_3_13.jpg

Yay, Bob-Cart, too bad that some idiot kids broke it time and again, by throwing stuff in the track, etc

Ptr2011_14_3_17.jpg

Pretty good, but not as crazy as the one we did earlier

Ptr2011_14_3_15.jpg

Bouncy ball, really wanted to do this one, but the queue were really dire

Ptr2011_14_3_16.jpg

Massive spring launch

Ptr2011_14_3_18.jpg

Now let's go on Sky-Wheel

Ptr2011_14_3_19.jpg

Some water ride in a field

Ptr2011_14_3_20.jpg

We did this and it was pretty good fun

Ptr2011_14_3_22.jpg

Pretty tame, but fun

Ptr2011_14_3_21.jpg

Zooom, through the station

Sky-Wheel were the first X-car ever made, it was built here in this park to be used as a Advertising tool for Maurer Söhne (which is located close by) to show clients their new big ride.
The ride itself is pretty powerful and really good for such a small ride. A really thrilling coaster that really takes no space at all, don't want to wait in a long line for it though...

Ptr2011_14_3_23.jpg

Up the lift

Ptr2011_14_3_27.jpg

Note to self: Must go on a massive one of these next time I see one at a German Fair :)

Ptr2011_14_3_28.jpg

Really interesting bit

Ptr2011_14_3_30.jpg

Yay, my first Butterfly credit :)

Ptr2011_14_3_31.jpg

And the best thing is that they have TWO!!! :p

Ptr2011_14_3_32.jpg

Time to leave!

Ptr2011_14_3_33.jpg

Wonder if that is a credit I spy...

Sky-Line park is a small place with loads of strange self operated rides and other contraptions, so a short stay here could be really fun with a good group of people. They have some other great stuff as well, such as the brilliant Sky-wheel :)

Next up Freishütz or something else...

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Part 23 - Spite!!!?!

This was a hard day to plan, since the original plan were to go to a small park in Austria for a Pax coaster and then head to Bayern Park and Freischütz. Due to all the problems Bayern Park have had with the ride (delayed several months), I had added loads of other parks in the are between the hotel's we were going to travel that day in case we needed to re-plan that day on the go. Freischütz were supposed to open the weekend before we got there, but they got some problem with the LSM drive, during the TÜV sertification, that set them back another 2 weeks before opening. And since we didn't have access to any internet during the week in Italy, we had no idea on what was going on. Anyway the evening before at the Etap (love the free wi-fi) we noticed that CoasterFriends forums had posted something that there might be a Press day at the park the day after, the same day we were supposed to go, that would mean that they not only fixed the ride in half the time, they also passed the TÜV bit as well. Great job!!
Well we decided to take a chance and go there to see if they may open the ride for the rest of the park goers within a reasonable time, so we had time to get to Freizeit-Land Geiselwind which we decided would be the ideal second park that day...

So we arrived at opening time, and saw the sign that the Press launch would be in the afternoon and that it would open to the crowds the day after, SPITE!!!

Ptr2011_15_1_01.jpg

Freishütz Spitage!!

Shame about Freischütz really, looked like a really nice ride. Saw it run around the circuit both once and twice on the different settings....

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

I've always found Skyloops really strange. Are Mountain Coasters worth it? This one not too far from me and I've never been, about a four hour drive to the middle of nowhere for about 2 hours or so, than drive back. Should I drive up? Major spiteage about Freischutz. I would be soo angry if that happend to me.

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Fantastic PTRs Loefet, really enjoying them still. Wish I'd known about that Intamin launched in South Italy before I booked everything up for our holiday, looks great. Shame you missed out on Freischütz but it gives you a reason to visit again and I read that by next year it'll be heavily themed.

Interesting that the Italian parks you liked the guys on the Live didn't and vice versa lol. Oh and I'm gutted that Fiabilandia have added a cred, oh well, I doubt I'll be able to convince the others to make a little detour :p Still, it's nice to see that little park continue to improve, especially the new bridge from the car park.

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

^^ Sky Loops are strange, but still great fun.
Which Alpine coaster would that be?? Do you have some more into about it. If it's like the ones I have been on, long and loads of turns and stuff then yeah, I would drive 2 hours for one, especially if I had the possibility to get more than one ride on it (not just a single one like the ones we did, except the one at Fort Fun). If it's just one of those that runs in a metal/concrete/fibreglass trough then I would only do it if I were passing by, they are not as fun and you might seriously hurt yourself if pushing it...

^ Thanks!!
Yeah the small Intamin is really great, shame on you missing it, the rest of the park is a dump though.
Yeah I have heard about the theming that they are planning for Freischütz, seems like it's going to be standard to see rides half completed during the first season, and then have the full ride the year after in Germany...
The Power coaster at Fiabilandia is just a temporary thing where they put it up in the park when they are not touring Italian fair with it. So it might not be there, depending on when you are going. And Yeah Fiabilandia is doing a great job fixing up the park.

Oh and about Freischütz...

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Part 23b - FREISCHÜTZ!!!!

OK, so I did omission this part in the Bayern Park update, just to be able to make a special update about Freishütz. The rest of the last update is the truth, but here comes the complete version...

So we had learned that Bayern Park were to have their media day for Freischütz on the day that we had planned to visit the place, so we took a gamble going there to see if we could still ride the coaster. At the park we saw a schedule that told us that it might open for park goers after the press have had their goes, but that wasn't scheduled until the afternoon, so we ditched Freizeit-Land Geiselwind as our next park of the day and decided to head for a small German fair in the area instead :p
After arriving at Bayern Park we noticed a table with name tags of the that were invited to the media day, and noticed that several of the names were of different German/Austrian theme park community's, so my brother had a brilliant idea, "let's find one that seems to take care of this and ask him if we could join them for the media day, on the basis that we also are coaster enthusiasts" :p we did and they said hell yes :-D EPIC WIN!!

We were asked to come back an hour later for our name tags and press material after one hour, so at this point we grabbed the butterfly's and the small tivoli, then when we got them we had an hour before the media event opened so we grabbed the last credit along with walking around in the park and take pictures...

Freishütz Media day:

I have been on a few of these events before in Sweden, but this was so much different, they talked about everything, including the hardening of different cement mixes...
They even told us that it had the most number of inversions/length of any coaster, but I'm pretty sure that Colossus beats them at that
Incredibly boring. The ones at Liseberg have always been that the the CEO, Attraction manager and some other official people talks for a minute or two and then everyone goes riding for a few hours. These dragged on for over an hour, but I guess that it's just the standard German procedure at one of these. Halfway through the event a little girl fainted, and the one in charged made a slight joke about them dragging their feet explaining everything, and then went on another 30 minutes. Thankfully the girl was fine after a short rest...

Ptr2011_15_2_01.jpg

At the media event

Ptr2011_15_2_02.jpg

This was built for the same reason why as they built Sky-Wheel, since it's close to the Maurer Söhne head office

Then it was time to head down to Freischütz to cut the red ribbon and to ride!!!

After the third go the ride broke down completely, it looked like we were going to be spited after all, we waited for about an hour in the station, before we decided to cash in our free meal/drink coupons we got, from the park, Mmmmm food.
They said that they had some issues with the super capacitors that store the energy that is recovered from the ride while breaking and is later used to launch/re-launch the train around the circuit. Probably got too much juice in them and they had no real way to reduce it in a "safe" fashion...

Ptr2011_15_2_17.jpg

Ptr2011_15_2_24.jpg

IT'S BACK!!

So finally we got to ride it!! They described it as an Extreme ride, and that's not an understatement, it's incredibly powerful, I really don't see how a ride like this could fit a family park that Bayern Park is...

The ride:
You enter the standard issue X-car train that have all the fixes that have been added since the opening of G-Force (utter crap), so they are really nice. The launch is pretty uneventful, the talked about using forced perspective in the barrel to increase the sensation of speed on the launch, but on the first go the train don't really speed up until you are outside the station. So after some LSM tugging initially you get a smooth launch up the top-hat, then into the loop, both of which are perfectly fine. Then all hell breaks loose, the turnaround between the loop and the first in-line is insane, pulls nearly 4 g's all the way around (about 5 seconds), just a few slight dips where the small over-banks are. Then comes the first twist, Yes, you think less forces from here, but you be surprised, a quick flick over the top and then the next powerful turnaround into the ditch hits. Second in-line coming up, and it's incredibly fast, faster then the first, even faster than the Blue-Fire one. Final turn and into the station, just to be launched around a second go :) . After the second time through the station you get slowed down on the launch track and then coast slowly backwards into the station.
It's a really great ride, but unfortunately it suffers from some bad vibrations that they hope they could fix it with some tweaking during this years soft opening. They will add the LED wheels that Maurer Söhne had shown at IAAPA a few weeks after the media day (so they might be on now). And then work hard to complete the ride until the grand opening next year.

So after a few goes on Freishütz we decided to head on to the next place. We thanked some of the people in the park for that we were allowed to join them for the media day and the few rides we got on it.

So next place: Gäubodenvolksfest!!

Alpsee Bergwelt!! I went there years ago with my friend who is also called Ethan :)
I still have the mini brochure, it was a really great day and I loved it. Well done on all these pics by the way, really interesting!

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

^^ Thanks. Freishütz is just a bit rough, but nothing as bad as Thundercoaster :p

^ Yeah it was a little nice place to stop by for an hour or two, these places are a great excuse to stretch your legs for a few moments on a long day driving.
Thanks!!

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Part 24 - Fire and Ice

So after a quick shuffle around in the parks I had added to our list of places to visit we decided on heading to a small German fair instead of the park we had planned to visit, on the basis that it would be open a lot later if we needed the extra time at Bayern Park. But since they managed to get Freischütz open in a reasonable time (still not enough for the original park though) then we had plenty of time to get to that small fair...

Ptr2011_15_3_01.jpg

I think that it's this way

Ptr2011_15_3_02.jpg

YAY

Ptr2011_15_3_03.jpg

Ptr2011_15_3_04.jpg

May be a small fair, but they still have some great rides :)

Part 25 - Credit run!!

So since we didn't do Freizeit-Land Geiselwind after Bayern Park due to lack of time, we decided to head there first thing instead, due to it's proximity to the hotel we were staying in. Since we had already been to the two parks that we were supposed to go to then we didn't need that much time at those, especially considering the extra driving time we added between the first and second park...

As I said in the report Freizeit-Land Geiselwind feels just like one of those crappy Swedish parks, lot's of animals and rides plonked down in a forest, most of it is pretty rubbish. There is however a big difference between them and it's called TÜV, we don't have such an awesome company in Sweden which means that rides can fall apart at any time (especially since they are all run by Axels tivoli...
Nice little park where you can stay for an hour to get some creds...

Next up some wood!!

Part 26 - El Toro

So after Geiselwind we talked about either doing Plohn or Belantis since both had opened a new coaster since our last visit. But then it hit us, why not do both :p since we are in the neighbourhood as long as we keep the visits short...
I mean both of the places have some gems to are really great, and El Toro is just that. I mean the new coaster was a draw in it's own, but I would easily trek the whole way out here just for Toro <3

Even though they have managed to create a great new family section in the park (which is not complete yet) the main draw of Plohn is of course El Toro <3

Easily the best part of the ride

I really like El Toro, it's the smallest coaster that GCI have made, but it's one of the best I have ridden, just pure fun all the way through the ride. There is so many parks that would really benefit from one of these. It have developed a little rattle since our last visit, but it's no way near a deal breaker (mainly thanks to the nice trains), I would have to say that it in my view enhances the ride somewhat, since it gives it a much more "wooden" feel than the glass smooth ride it had before. We got several rides on the coaster, and the best with their operation is that "if no one is standing at the gate to your seat then you could easily remain in your seat (or change row to one that is free). There were so little people in the station one go that Marcel let the train just coast straight through the station at one point giving us an instant second go <3
If you are in the neighbourhood, GO HERE AND RIDE TORO!!!

I really love this place and I'm sad to leave as we did, but we had to get cracking to get to Belantis for some Gerstlauer action before they closed...

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Part 27 - Gerstlauer  and

I have been to Belantis before and I don't really like it, the park is just a massive place with nothing really inside it, sure there is a themed area here and there but there are miles to walk between them. Oh the place is a bit of a rip-off as well :(
We have ridden the Gerstaluer Bob-sled they have, most of the are pretty good, but this one is the sole exception, it's crap, so we decided to skip it all together, also it's furthest away from the entrance so we wouldn't really have bothered either...
They have a "new" Euro-fighter so we had some hopes for that, and of course they have the ace Götterflug <3

Ptr2011_16_3_01.jpg

The ride really stands out

Ptr2011_16_3_02.jpg

The girl in the register told us "you know that we close the attractions in 45 minutes??"
WTF is that, close all the rides one hour before you close the park, stupid!!

Ptr2011_16_3_03.jpg

So with little time left we headed for the new credit

Ptr2011_16_3_04.jpg

Looks really ace

Ptr2011_16_3_05.jpg

Welcome to Huracan

OMFG, it sucks, it have as bad shakes as the Bob-sled they have, what is it with this place and ruining their coasters, we only rode it twice, even though we could have managed more since there were no queue to speak about.
On one of the rides the people in front of us dropped their phone on the small bunny hop after the Cobra Roll which ended up in our footwell, so my brother managed to put his foot on it, and they were really happy to get it back after the ride :)

Time for Götterflug <3

I really love this ride, it's one of the few that are really good in this park, and really the sole purpose to get here in the first place. It's the most mental flat ride I have ever ridden, but then again it can be a really pleasant ride if you want. We got 3 runs on it before they closed and we said enough of this :) . Thankfully it was kind of windy which makes the experience a lot more interesting. They have modified it since our last visit, they have added brakes to the seat rotation which are active close to the floor to ease loading and saving maintenance cost by not replacing the wings after they get banged into the floor like before. It takes a bit of practice to get the spin going properly but after mastering it you can go like crazy. Last time we managed 60-70 "inversions" at best, we smashed that record after the first go :) on the third go I stopped at 101 due to the fact that I couldn't take it any more and the fact that the ride was stopping :) . Some other on the ride dropped their jaws on our first go seeing us spinning like that, the kids really wanted to go again after seeing us and finally noticed what was possible on the ride. If you aim to spin the ride as much a possible then it's incredibly nauseating, probably one of the worst there is, after a good ride you really feel drunk :) The worst bit is that when you do this the whole ride starts to sway making it even worse, and the wind don't help other than to spin you faster :-D
Absolutely love it, it's just a shame that none is built anywhere else, which means that I have to get to this **** hole to ride one...

Ptr2011_16_3_20.jpg

It may look innocent

Ptr2011_16_3_21.jpg

But once you get going and start to work the wings then all hell breaks loose...

I love you for having Götterflug!!

The place is really vile, but Götterflug is enough to make you put up with the rest of the place. I would love to see more of them, since they are probably the best flat-ride today, Liseberg do you hear me!!

So this concludes the last theme park of the trip :(
Tomorrow is the final stretch of the journey home with a stop at Miniatur Wunderland!!

Thanks and I'm happy to...

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Part 28 - Final Destination

After seeing Miniatur Wunderland being featured in some James May programs I wanted to go there, and when "Nemesis Inferno" posted their trip report earlier this year I really wanted to go there. So with that in mind and while planning this trip then why not combine the two, especially since there isn't that much for us to do in this region, we have more or less done everything between Hamburg and home several times already, so we needed something new to do, hence a visit to Miniatur Wunderland was in order...

Ptr2011_17_01.jpg

Down in the old Hansa blocks

Ptr2011_17_02.jpg

Here we are, it's right next to the Hamburg Dungeon (didn't bother with them since there were a massive queue at both places)

After a 1.5 hour wait to get in, we had the opportunity to get a ticket for later at a good price to skip the queue, but then it would be too late...
For those who don't know what it is, then I can describe it as the most kick ass train set you have ever seen, just look at the pictures!!

So that was some of all the images we took at the place, there is just so much to see there and they are still expanding the it. I really have to get back there at some point, but then have more time to really take in everything (also go when there is less crowds there as well since the place was packed), also might take the behind the scene tour while I'm at it. Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

Absolutely fantastic PTR, I love the style. Looks like there were loads of really good coasters and you've definitely made me notice a few parks that I haven't seen before, so thanks for that! Really enjoyed reading it and there were some very good photos. :--D

Re: Loefet and co. goes south, It's all about Credz!!

I was waiting for a 'closing-off' post from you Loefet and kinda forgot, but Brookes has reminded me about this topic.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this PTR. You've covered so many parks I knew so little (if anything) about. It's been really good to read and kinda inspired me to look at a Europe trip soon. Awesome! Thanks for sharing. :D
