^ I can answer those!

1 - what attracted you to use Mack for Helix? Was it a previous installation or knowledge of what they could potentially create?

They were very impressed after riding Blue Fire ,and they wanted the same technology for their new ride. They liked how smooth it was, how comfortable & quiet the trains were as well as the lap bar only restraint.

2 - Do you believe that creating an amazing experience on a ride is more important than getting your name in the record books?

They have said that they were aiming at creating one of the worlds absolute best steel coasters from the start, the ride was never meant to be the tallest, fastest, steepest, most inversion etc- as they feel those gimmicks does not equal a world class ride.

(a 35 million USD budget definitely helps if you wanna build a top 10 coaster like this)!
I'm glad that you know exactly how the CEO feels about this project.

Which I was already aware of but would like to know if his answers have changed since the build.
Give him a break guys.

Still at the press day, wont come home until late. So you'll have to wait for a full report until tomorrow. But for now I can say that Helix is a REALLY FUN ride! All the different elements, the pacing, the length; it's so fun! And it just gets better with more rides =)

Absolutely beautiful.

For those of you that like on-ride photos, here are some from the park's Facebook page.

I think this is my favourite bit:

Just love how close it comes to the rock and the little gutter it seems to shoot through. Brilliant design.

I could just see this kind of design philosophy doing wonder at other amusement parks with large hill/cliff features. Six Flags Fiesta Texas - I'm looking at you.

Re: RE: Liseberg | Helix | Mack Megacoaster

See Six Flags Magic Mountain for failing at this concept. **** Full Throttle...

Was lucky enough to ride this beauty four times today.

The airtime on this thing is the best I've ever experienced!
- It's sustained for so long and it's the perfect mix of ejected and floater!
The layout flows really well and there aren't really any "dead-spots" on the course
It's not a wild ride, but it's fun, long and has some great elements.
My favorite parts include the intense airtime dive into the helix and the huge airtime hill.

POV of our last ride in the evening and a music video including off- and onride clips:

So more off-ride shots in this official media day video.

I do remeber that video, but my answer was based on a live chatt we had with Andreas a few weeks ago, as well as a radio interview he did around christmas :)

So it's decent then?
;)

I'm not completely blown away no, but it's hard not getting a little bit disappointed when you have followed a coaster for one and a half year, because you have made all sorts of conceptions about it and how you think, and/or want it to ride.

But looking at it objectively though, it's one sweet coaster! - I mean, some rides rely on their launch to create an experience and some on their height and speed, well Helix relies on the whole package! - Launch, inversions, amazing airtime, great flow, lap-bars, diversity and length is just some of the things that makes this an awesome roller coaster!

^I apologize if I missed it in your posts (or anyone else's), but how are the inversions on the ride? Are they particularly intense, or do they just flow nicely without a large amount of high-g?

Seeing as this is open now, and Andrus' report of the opening day can be found here (or in Smithy's post two above this):

I'll unsticky this topic.

I've got to come out of lurking for this one. Saw the press release on the YouTubes, quickly watched the point of view, and wow. Looks incredible. Let me know if you've got a spare set of plane tickets to Sweden :p
