What's new

Liseberg | Helix | Mack Megacoaster

I don't get the fact some are calling the paint job gross, there are many coaster paint jobs on the planet that are a lot worse. I think it looks good for its environment and blends well into the hill. I'm really excited for this, probably won't be able to ride this to like 2015 but i'm sure it will be a crazy ride.

It's all based on opinion and you can't state that other's opinions are wrong, you just have to let it go over your head.

I personally love the way it looks, the colour is great and it's got so many elements. I honestly think it has the potential to be in the top 5 coasters in europe.

Anyway, the Heartline is currently being installed, crane and track is onsite.

Looks fab, but the colour scheme makes me think of 70s ski-ing holidays (not that this is a bad thing)

Its not the paint job that makes it gross, (although it doesn't help) its just an overall gross looking ride. It sits on its landscape like a sore thumb, it looks really clumsy, but at the same time, this will probably be one of the greatest rides in Europe.

The whole thing is odd..

This ride may look out of place now, but when there's time for the foliage to grow back and the trees have their leaves, I think it will fit in fine.

The people at Liseberg told that the hill looked much worse after installing Lisebergbanan, but now you can only see it completely in the winter/spring season. In a couple of years Helix will blend in perfectly.

That's nice to hear! Where you participating in this weeks construction tour?

^Haha, ok. I was expecting a bit more elaborate answere ;) Did they tell you anything new or interesting?

I read over at TPR that the helix just before the second launch will be the element where you experience the highest amount of g's (4.3). And they where also told that the launches will produce up to 1 g, i.e. similar to an Intamin accelerator (which surpriced me since Blue Fire has a very weak launch). Oh I wish I could have joined the tour, but had other things in the way..

Actually 1g is very weak. Blue Fire have 1,1g in it's launch, and an Intamin accelerator hit around 1,9-2,2g. So expect the launches to be a nice boost and nothing more, until proven otherwise.

^Ahh, I don't know where I got that fact. But I trust you, your figures seem more acurate! It's a shame though that the launches will be that weak...

Surely 1g is no force as the number represents the amount of times gravity the force is. Multiply anything by 1 and you get the same number...

^No, because this is horizontal acceleration. Everything on Earth accelerates towards the centre of the Earth at 1g due to gravity, this gives us weight, however everything does not naturally accelerate horizontally at 1g. 1g on a launch should therefore feel like a drop tower, but horizontal. _Koppen is right, if you take averages of Intamins/S&Ss you find that Stealth accelerates at about 1.9g and Dodonpa at 2.7g, but obviously those are the two very quickest accelerating rides in the world. 1g works out about the same as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster's launch.

Think of it like how you feel when driving a car. If you are going a constant speed, you do not feel any pressure pushing on your body. If you accelerate quickly or slam on the breaks you apply a sudden change in acceleration, which creates the G-forces you feel.

From wiki:

"Accelerometers are often calibrated to measure g-force along one or more axes. If a stationary, single-axis accelerometer is oriented so that its measuring axis is horizontal, its output will be 0 g, and it will continue to be 0 g if mounted in an automobile traveling at a constant velocity on a level road. When the driver presses on the brake or gas pedal, the accelerometer will register positive or negative acceleration."

Very cool pictures. It's going to be years before I ever get a chance to ride this, but it certainly looks awesome.
