To go with the showering thread, do you prefer the convenience of liquid soap (including shower gel), or do you think there's something awesome about good old fashioned bars?

Liquid soap.

It might not last as long as a bar of soap but it does the job and it looks clean. A manky, cracked, pube-infested bar of soap on the sink is foul to look at. A quick wipe of the liquid soap bottle and the bathroom is clean!

I used to think liquid, but now I'm into bars. For showers though, shower gel.

Liquid. Always. Pretty much for the reasons Ian mentioned. Liquid is just so much cleaner and more hygienic.

The actual worst is bars of soap in shared toilets. We've got them in the toilets at work for example, which is just gross. I have to wash my hands with just water, which has to be more hygienic than a slimy bar of cheap soap used by countless other people.

Bars of soap always leave my skin feeling really dry so liquid for both hand washing and showers.

Plus as mentioned already bars of soap are really unhygienic.

^ Same here, my skin feels really tight and dry after washing with bar soap.

Shower gel & liquid hand soap all the way.

Yeah chalk another one up for liquid, I don't I have seen a bar of soap in my house for about 15 years.

Bar soap is actually vile, all cracked and full of other people's scum, usually a curly pube or two <//3 reminds me of school toilets. Liquid soap all the way, or better yet, alcohol gel!

I really don't care. I've never been in a situation where I've had to cleanse my self thoroughly while being in the presence of sentient pubic hair like shared shower things.

I use bar soap when washing my hands, Shower Gel in the shower and I bring my own if staying away from my own hoose.

Public bar soap?!!? That EXISTS? EUGH!

Bar soap is a personal relationship only.

Bar soap is a tonne better for getting oily stuff off your hands, I find. I dunno, I prefer it in my own house. Not sure why.

Despite being the hairiest person I know, I don't have an issue with hair in my soap?? Even though I use it in the bath as a body soap.

To be fair the only place I've seen it in the last 15 years or so is in the staff toilets at school.

They're gross. They're clean and stuff, but they're like something from the '60s. It pisses me off seeing as the kids have got completely modern toilets when all they do is trash the **** ing things every other day, and we've got to take a trip to the third world whenever we need a slash.

ahh yes - I'm still haunted by the sight of the soap dish at one of our friends many years ago!

Bar soap is a personal thing, I don't understand why anyone would share it? Public toilets is what liquid soap is for!

That said, I have liquid soap at home, purely because the pH levels of bar soap are so horrific that they make your skin all dry and cracked. I quite like keeping my nice soft hands thank you very much.

I ALWAYS use liquid except for in the shower. I just do. I grew up doing it and I haven't changed, but I always hate when you go to hotels and in the shower is a REALLY skinny and cracked up cheap bar of soap with one pube on it. That's when I use body wash.

Usually liquid but we have this really good bar stuff to use when you need a proper Lady Macbeth scrub.
