LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- BELGRADE UP

BERLIN

So, our highly anticipated Euro trip commenced on July 9th when we left to Stansted around 3 in the afternoon for our evening flight. As we were waiting for our flight, we had some food and drink at Wetherspoons.

Yay for eating healthy!

When our gate was called, we headed over there and waited for our plane to arrive. Annoyingly, it was storming out.

I was unimpressed with the takeoff, but eventually the seatbelt signs went off and I went pee.

281657_10150737858725343_578800342_20035312_810031_n.jpg

Our plane landed exactly on schedule, and soon enough we had arrived at our hotel!

Since it was pretty late by the time we arrived, we just went to a sheesha bar down the street. It was already about ten or eleven by this time so there was little point sightseeing.

The next day we woke up to a fab but costly breakfast to fuel us up for our busy day.

216679_10150737872310343_578800342_20035651_1609143_n.jpg

Because I’m immature, I took a photo of the sign that had the F word on it.

285485_10150737872455343_578800342_20035655_3530129_n.jpg

When we crossed the bridge on the way to the city centre, we caught a glimpse of the downtown bit.

185237_10150737872730343_578800342_20035666_5588130_n.jpg

We were a bit baffled by all the locks put on the bridge, but later found out that it’s a sign of everlasting love, awww.

205973_10150737872795343_578800342_20035668_1775057_n.jpg

We admired some of the buildings.

250357_10150737873270343_578800342_20035684_7101000_n.jpg

Including this amazing church.

282142_10150737873590343_578800342_20035697_3941431_n.jpg

The park it was in was also pretty nice.

285409_10150737873915343_578800342_20035711_2303107_n.jpg

The detail was pretty amazing.

198644_10150737873975343_578800342_20035713_4419215_n.jpg

Then we saw this building, which reminded me of a less fab version of the CN tower. It really didn’t fit in with the surroundings!

223950_10150737874555343_578800342_20035736_1602945_n.jpg

Since it was hot out, we got a monster slush, which wasn’t that monstrous and very watery.

284650_10150737874590343_578800342_20035737_2712998_n.jpg

We admired the city a bit more.

At the end of the long road, we came to the Brandenburg gate, which was definitely a cool thing to see!

268638_10150737875405343_578800342_20035763_5966138_n.jpg

Right near the Brandenburg gate was the Bundestag, so we took a few pictures but didn’t stay long since we had a tour inside it later in the afternoon.

223659_10150737878200343_578800342_20035867_3401670_n.jpg

We checked out Pottsdam which was a bit modern but still nice.

283521_10150737879405343_578800342_20035907_574571_n.jpg

On the way to Checkpoint Charlie, I saw these cute cars.

252151_10150737879525343_578800342_20035912_8160670_n.jpg

We also stumbled upon the Berlin Wall, which we had no idea was still standing.

188363_10150737880075343_578800342_20035933_687159_n.jpg

Eventually we got to Checkpoint Charlie.

Since we were really hungry, we stopped in at one of the many McDonalds that we were to eat at on the trip! This one was very well themed and it had the McRib!

We headed back to where our hotel was and stopped at a pub to kill some time before our tour of the Bundestag.

Finally it was time for our tour.

After the tour we got the chance to go up to the dome on top of the building, which gave great views of the city.

Since it was pretty late by the time our tour ended, we headed back to the hotel, but not before going to another McDonalds. We also stopped off at the pub near our hotel again, where I had amazing cream of mushroom soup and vodka, a great mix haha.

223112_10150742034575319_752170318_20273037_5193539_n.jpg

Then we went back to the hotel and went to bed.

The next day we woke up early and headed off to the train station. Bye bye Novalis hotel!

REVIEW OF BERLIN: Berlin wasn’t a gorgeous city by any means. It was still nice, but it was mostly the history that was amazing about it. I really enjoyed my time there because it was interesting and incredible to see all the things that I had learned about in school. Overall, it was a nice city and the history made it that much better.

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- BERLIN UP!

Minor_Furie was in Berlin that week too... He spent the entire week praying he'd avoid you... Apparently their is a God ;)

Anyway, looks great, glad you had fun, lots of culture, blah blah blah :)

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- VIENNA UP!

PRAGUE

After an awful four and a half hour train ride that consisted of standing shoulder to shoulder with random people, and getting our toes ran over by suitcases, we finally arrived in Prague. The currency was weird here, so when our taxi driver said it would cost us about 900 CZK to get to our hotel, we accepted, only to come to the realization that it was the most expensive cab ride ever! Regardless, we arrived at our hotel room safe and sound (which I was grateful for considering how he drove).

228937_10150737892930343_578800342_20036347_7683980_n.jpg

The rooms were nice, the only weird thing was that we had a lovely club called PUSSY DE LUXE under us.

215042_10150737892990343_578800342_20036349_2651211_n.jpg

And an awesome spiral staircase.

262486_10150737893030343_578800342_20036351_4452199_n.jpg

It was about seven, so we still had some time before nightfall to check out parts of the city!

Since we were hungry and we worked out that Prague was extremely expensive, we opted for getting a Czech Republic McDonalds cred.

189247_10150737894060343_578800342_20036391_3107799_n.jpg

We also checked out one of the main squares.

198694_10150737894920343_578800342_20036418_684749_n.jpg

In the square was the well known Astronomical clock, which me and Brad were a bit disappointed by considering we didn’t know what it was and all it did was chime a few times. We found out what it was later which made it a bit more cool though.

And then we checked out Jewish town, which wasn’t exactly great.

216864_10150737895265343_578800342_20036431_3923688_n.jpg

Once we looked around enough, we decided to get some drinks. The bar we went to had some amazing views of the Prague skyline.

249276_10150737895590343_578800342_20036441_553745_n.jpg

Then we headed to PUSSY DELUXE for some laughs and watched the girls do their thing, haha. After that we went to bed.

The next day we went back over the Charles bridge, where I saw this peach.

267230_10150737895665343_578800342_20036444_350128_n.jpg

After searching for something other than McDonalds, we had an amazing breakfast consisting of sugary blueberry pancakes for me and then sausages etc for Brad. Then we continued on our way to the castle.

216676_10150737896025343_578800342_20036456_3262598_n.jpg

There was about a million stairs going up the castle, which made me a bit sad considering I’m out of shape.

We then checked out the rest of the area.

229627_10150737898785343_578800342_20036518_3180343_n.jpg

We found a Medieval pub which we stopped at briefly.

Since we didn’t know how long the walk was to the train station, we decided to test the waters and see how long it would take us to walk there, since we had to do it the next morning. We saw some nice sights on our walk.

We had seen everything we wanted to see, so we went out for some drinks. We went to this fab underground pub with amazing pizza which I burned my mouth off with, but it was still cheap, which is rare in Prague (and by cheap I mean on the upper end of average, but for that city it was cheap enough).

285518_10150737900860343_578800342_20036566_5227203_n.jpg

The next day we woke up early to walk to the train station, and even though we were broke, we afforded McDonalds with about 5 CZK to spare (literally like, a penny or two).

284980_10150737901210343_578800342_20036574_7353818_n.jpg

We arrived at the train station with about fourty minutes to spare, where I realized my Eurail pass wasn’t valid in Slovakia, which was where we were going next. WHAT WILL HAPPEN?! Stay tuned :p .

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

LOL, I've eaten in that exact same underground pub thing (at least it looks the same). I love Prague, it's really beautiful. The views from the top of the tower with the astronomical clock are also incredible, as well as the views from the castle.

If you wanted to avoid the stairs to the castle you could have just used the funicular railway.

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

Ohhh we didn't even see a funicular railway, it would have been really helpful :( . Oh well, it was good exercise!

There is never too much me, Hal :p .

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

Prague looks like a really nice city. How many McDonalds have you had so far?

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

We went into loads of McDonalds, sometimes for a meal and sometimes for a Fanta, and in Prague we went three or four times over the span of two days which was mental but the food prices were extortionate. Berlin we went to two, and then most of the other cities were one or none :p . In Belgrade we sat in one for about two hours just to get out of the heat and have a drink!

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

How much is a pint in the Prague?

Decent trip report.... and lol at Pussy De Luxe.

Do you know what eating McDonalds in foreign countries all the time does to you???

Look on to ten years time and...

We've seen it before!

Still, your coaster counts will be massive!

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

The drinks actually weren't awful in Prague, the pints were probably like 5 pounds, give or take because I don't know exactly how much the currency exchange is. It was the food that was killer!

And Furie, I was actually sick of McDonalds for once in my life. We made a promise in the middle of our trip not to have anymore McDonalds for the rest of it and we stuck to it pretty well.

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

HOLY ****, where were you drinking? I had a pub outside my hotel, it was 30p a pint. Staropramen is now my favourite beer.

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

Probably because we were drinking on the water and stuff, but even in the downstairs pub it was definityely not 30p. Bratislava however, haha :p .

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

I've not been to either Berlin or Prague yet but they look like wonderful places to go. Sounds like you had a nice time there too. You should have totally checked out the Pussy club :p

Look forward to reading more.

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- PRAGUE UP

BRATISLAVA

The train ride to Bratislava was stressful due to the fact that I realized my Eurail train ticket wasn’t valid in that country. So I spend the entire train ride worrying that when we crossed the border, I would be kicked off. We finally reached Slovakia, and on the border was a small town called Kuty, which was literally the middle of nowhere, so we were **** ourselves when the train stopped for what seemed like forever. Thankfully, nobody checked our tickets again so we were safe! Soon enough we were in Bratislava, checking into Patio Hostel.

The room wasn’t great, but it would do! The view from the hotel wasn’t the greatest either.

It became apparent that most of the hotel’s occupants were backpacking teenagers.

In the lobby of the hotel, I saw something that made me feel at home.

Since we were hungry, we went to McDonalds, but this time I strayed away from the norm and decided to get a treat from the McCafe instead of something on the regular menu.

We walked around a little bit, taking in the sights of Old Town, the only truly nice part of Bratislava.

After walking around for a bit, we headed back to the uglier part of town where our hotel was and got a drink at what had to be the cheapest pub ever.

We headed back to the hotel around six thirty because there was meant to be a barbecue. Much to our disappointment, it was put off until the next day.

It was getting dark, so we headed back to the hotel and quickly realized that everyone was partying, and we didn’t have alcohol, so off to the Tesco we went.

The next morning, we walked to the train station and caught our train to Vienna an hour earlier than planned. Yay!

My thoughts on Bratislava were mixed. Old Town was really nice, and the night life was really good, but if I went back I’m not sure I would enjoy it as much because you’re not guaranteed such a great, fun group of people in your hostel. Still, I was skeptical pulling up on the train, but in the end I had a fun time and it was better than expected.

Next up- VIENNA

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- BRATISLAVA UP!

Loving this trip report so far. UFO club? looks good. Lucky they didn't check your rail card :D

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- BRATISLAVA UP!

^ Woo a reply, which means I can post a new update! :p We didn't go to the UFO club but Bratislava as a whole had some pretty good nightlife! And that was the only time we got lucky with the railcard unfortunately.. We did have to get OUT of Slovakia somehow!

VIENNA, AUSTRIA

We left Slovakia an hour before planned with some people from our hostel. The train ride was fairly uneventful, with everyone just playing Pokemon blue on their Gameboy, or if you're me, watching them play Pokemon blue because they wouldn't let me have a turn! I also got caught with an invalid rail card, but thankfully it only cost me three euros to get from Slovakia to the edge of Slovakia and Austria, where my rail card was valid once again.

When we pulled up to Austria it began pouring rain, and with our hotel on the other side of the city we either had the option of walking or paying a hefty amount for a cab. Thankfully the cab was fairly cheap at only fifteen euros, and soon enough we arrived at our hotel and dropped off our bags.

216666_10150737928265343_578800342_20037427_5455144_n.jpg

The hotel was actually really nice! It was in a pretty good location, and the rooms were spacious and tidy. It seemed like the Gods were with us, because as soon as we dropped our vags off the rain subsided and we headed to Weiner Prater! Before arriving at the park, we were starving so we found a fish sandwich place. Sadly it took us about ten minutes to order due to language difficulties, but we finally got our food.

215014_10150737928450343_578800342_20037433_7537343_n.jpg

After about a forty minute walk, we saw Weiner Prater in the not-so-far distance!

The park was free entry, but sadly you end up paying more than what park admission usually costs when you pay per ride. The park itself was nice though, and was a lot bigger and nicer than what I expected.

284500_10150737928865343_578800342_20037451_6998381_n.jpg

Our first cred of the day was Dizzy Mouse, which was about three euros to ride. It was pretty wild considering it had just rained!

229770_10150737929185343_578800342_20037461_4922689_n.jpg

Next up was Super-8-Bahn, which was a really fun Shwarzkopf! It hit some good speeds, had some nice drops, and quite a few headchoppers.

Next up was the best Boomerang I had ever been on! It was the most expensive thing in the park at what I believe was either 5 or 6 euros a piece, but if this were in a normal park I would have gladly went on it multiple times. It had a small lap bar and was not rough at all! The climb up before they release you was insane as you feel like you're going to fall out.

At the back of the park was Mega Blitz, which was another very enjoyable ride. I think we were the only ones on the train, but once again it had good speeds and was overall good fun.

It was a small cred but it was still very unique, and I enjoyed my ride on it.

At this time there were three more creds to be found, so we made our way over to the Volare which was absolute DEATH.

206207_10150737933265343_578800342_20037590_3044895_n.jpg

Unable to find the other two creds, we made our way back to the front of the park to sit down and find a park map. On the way, we saw this interesting contraption.

After looking at a map and RCDBing the names of the creds for what seemed like ages, we finally discovered where they were located. The first was Der Zug de Manitu, which was hilariously rough for what it was. The guy was having a laugh and sent us around loads of times, even though we were alone on the train and only wanted to go around once!

With eight new creds, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up before going into town! As I said, our room was very nice.

The annoying thing was that there was a huge screen and a zillion seats in front of the church, meaning it was hard to get good pictures. It was for a movie screening later in the day, so Brad decided to be silly and take a seat.

Unfortunately, a lady came up to us and harassed us to buy her magazine for about ten minutes, so we left. It was also getting a bit chilly.

There was a random lamp post with stickers all over it.

There were many street performers in Vienna, but there was a man doing some spray painting which caught my eye. I asked Brad if we could stop and watch him, and though he said we could only stay for five minutes at first, we were both fascinated and ended up staying for about forty minutes.

We went back to our hotel for a bit of an early night because we were both exhausted. When we got there, we realized Brad left our travel adaptor in Slovakia and I absolutely flipped out on him, but thankfully we ended up finding a new one at a shop the next day and I had a backup thing which we used for the night.

The next morning we had an epic breakfast buffet full of meats and cheeses!

We had an early start to the day because I really wanted to see Schonbrunn Palace before we headed out of the city to our next destination.

Brad was feeling unwell so I checked out the back of the palace by myself.

Unfortunately, my suitcase broke even more that day, making travel harder than it already was. Brad had to carry my suitcase like a baby all the way back to the station, alongside his massive backpack.

Overall, Vienna was absolutely gorgeous. I wish I got to spend a bit more time there to check out some of the museums, but I think we saw quite a bit in the time allotted. I’d recommend it to anyone really, and I was not disappointed! It didn’t end up being my favourite stop of the trip like I thought it would, but it was still very nice.

NEXT UP- BUDAPEST

Re: LFTL & BRAD'S EURO TRIP- VIENNA UP!

^ Way to plug your photos in my topic ;) Just kidding, but your pictures outdo mine by a long shot, obviously!

It really is gorgeous, the only thing that kind of made me mad was the amount of construction. It seemed like every nice building had at least some bit of it that was being redone! Did you get the credz at Weiner Prater?
