What's new

Kingda Ka and Green Lantern's removal for new 2026 record-breaking coaster (page 7)

So if it gets a TT2-esque treatment and doesn't get fully demolished does that not still mean that in essence Ka as it stands is going away in any case? I imagine people would've been doing these goodbye rounds to TTD too if it hadn't been SBNO for like a year before they announced they'd be making any changes.
My first thought was just that, at this stage, a 'replacement' could still be a remodel, could it not?

I agree. Could be a bit of marketing speak - does refurbishment sound worse (in terms of 'not something new') than a replacement?

Press release:
“The ride’s retirement, in addition to the removal of The Twister and Parachutes, makes way for a new signature attraction… to debut in 2026. The park will also remove The Sky Way for future development, continuing the park’s commitment to enhancing the guest experience.”

Sunsetting the former "King of Coasters"..

This sucks.

This could easily be "tallest and fastest swing launch coaster in the world", with a rename.

Top Thrill Dragster is gone, after all*.
*Though at the moment, Top Thrill 2 is also dead, so...

Edit: Though just seen @M91's post, posted before I could hit submit, which is a lot less positive. :D

So they announce the retirement of Kingda Ka.. but is it effective immediatly?
Since the new coaster only opens in 2026, could it be they leave Ka running for a few more months?

Notice the different language used for Kingda Ka - "retired" rather than "removed". Coupled with the lack of demolition permits for Ka, in contrast with the other (much smaller) rides in that announcement and I think a Kingda Ka 2 could well be in play here.

Taking down a ride of Ka's scale would surely be the biggest coaster removal project in history - would they even have time to take it down and build a new record-breaking coaster in its place for 2026? Plus there's the fact that the Parachute Tower and Twister are located exactly where a spike would need to go...

Only had the pleasure of riding it once and boy was that launch violent! El Toro was miles better though.

EDIT: No mention of Zumanjaro closing either so....

If this is a Kingda2Ka investment like the style that Cedar Point did with TTD into Top Thrill 2, let’s hope that this time, it’s an Intamin project over a Zamperla one.

I really dislike these fake "records".

Falcons would still beat this for tallest and fastest multi launch
AlpenFury looks like it will have 8 or 9 inversions so KK would need to be significantly extended to take that one
Unlikely to take fastest acceleration if they are going to LSMs

Multi-record-breaking my arse, fastest in New Jersey, tallest green coaster in the world and first coaster themed to a raccoons nutsack don't cut it.

Same enthusiast circles who said that Kingda Ka would close without announcement (permanently, in this form at least) said last public train was on Sunday, so at this point we can probably believe them on that. Last I saw one train was near fully dismantled, one was temperamental and only one train was operating properly.
