KD Update

Just got back from Training and thought I would share a little about what I heard today:

Intimidator 305

Here's the good news: New turn is done, trims are gone. It's "super super fast, just like it was." Very cool and exciting, and I could not contain my happiness until I heard the bad news. The bad news is ALLEGEDLY they have slowed the second half of the ride down tremendously. After the block brakes, the train "barely made it over the bunny hops and to the final brake run". I found this a bit interesting, and I certainly hope it's a myth because the speed is I305's main asset.

Shockwave

The ride sounds really smooth and looks faster, so maybe they refitted new wheels this year? If they did, great, but that could be untrue. Also, new paint job. The supports are the same blue color but the track is now a sexy Green color similar to Greez'd Lightning Green. Take a look:

Grizzly

Apparently Grizzly won't be open until May, due to a retracking. I'm 99% sure we retracked Grizzly in '08? I don't know what the issue is, but it seems to be a minor maintainence responsibility.

That's all I've got! Enjoy!

Lets just hope that whatever they did that the first curve keeps most of the speed up through the fantastic first air-time hill & that they don't put the trims back on the last hill either.
I guess my fears were well founded. Somehow I knew that they wouldn't leave the last section flowing as well as it was.
New wheels & a new paint job isn't going to make Shockwave any less painful I'm afraid.
Grizzly wasn't running that bad, but re-tracking shouldn't hurt it one bit.

Basically. My er informant.. also said they may have just moved the trims. Basically, the drop is now unaffected by anything but pure gravity but the rest of the ride is affected accordingly...

^I think he might be talking about that set of trims half-way through.

The park is fun to go to. Dominator, Volcano and Intimidator are three good reasons to go to say the very least. It's certainly not Six Flags Great Adventure, but definatelyvworth checking out. Stop hatin' :p

You'll never get Ben, Mike or any of the others that went to KD with TRP to stop hatin' on the park. They had a miserable time there & whoever it was that spoke to the group was talking out their ass, so their dislike seems well founded (regardless of the quality or quantity of coasters).

^I didn't even listen to that guy and still think it's a dump!

It's just a lot of tarmac and a lot of bad coasters (although Dominator is great, and Volcano is fun, I can imagine getting on Volcano can be a PAIN from capacity, can't comment on Intimidator but I hear VERY mixed things about it)

The best thing there is Drop Zone though <3

The new Intimidator Area is actually quite refreshing, and has no blacktop in sight :p

You should IMO check out the park again and reassess your opinion. KD has really started to crack down on employees and we take guest complaints very seriously. While I cannot speak for the rest of the employees, I take my job very seriously and try to make every guests day as best as I can. Now if only people would come to the log flume so I could :p

Yes, the log flume is located right beside the rapids near Grizzly in one of the more picturesque parts of the park. We skipped the flume during the Live as we were soaked from the rapids & went of the flyers to dry off instead.

I edited my post, but they're near Grizzly & absolutely fab. We all got drenched.

I agree with Ben... I hated the park even before the marketing bloke gave his pitch! :p
The worst thing about the park is that I'ld have to return to get my 4 missing credits! :(

I had a pretty mixed opinion of the park to be honest. The expanses of tarmac weren't pleasant, but they weren't awful either. That part all kind of reminded me of Thorpe to be honest, just "meh".

The area around Grizzly was really nice, and the kiddy area was "good". It started to go wrong around Flight of Fear, Anaconda and BLSC were it often looked a bit messy and unfinished.

Around the Volcano area it was fine.

I didn't find a single thing about the park to "hate" though. Parts weren't great, but overall it was absolutely fine. Staff seemed pleasant enough, throughput was good, there was shelter - it was a perfectly fine park.

It's a park I'd certainly visit again without hesitation and it's one of those parks I'd love to take the family to (unlike say Dorney, where it was great to visit once, and to visit while passing, but I'm in no rush to head back to).

Oh, but Avalanche was probably the most disappointing ride of the entire East Coast trip... Bad King's Dominion! :p
