Indiana Jones and Big Thunder Mountain Re-build - DLP

I have just randomly come across this on 'screamscape:'

2014 - Indiana Jones Temple of Peril Rehab - NOW CLOSED - (1/10/14) As previously reported, Disneyland Paris has confirmed the closure of the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril coaster for an extended rehab that will last through to May 28th, 2014.
(9/30/13) Shocking news came from Disney & More this weekend… and this is not an April Fool’s joke. According to the report a Disneyland Paris Director revealed to fans that they would soon demolish the Indiana Jones Temple of Peril coaster/attraction and then rebuild it, using real stone for the temples.
Given that the timetable to do this is only about 5 months sometime in 2014, I would guess that they would plan on leaving as much of the coaster structure itself standing as possible, though it was mentioned that they would also rebuild the loop.

2014/2015 - Big Thunder Mountain Rehab - Planned - (9/30/13) Disneyland Paris’ Joe Schott mentioned that after the rehab to the Indiana Jones coaster is finished, they are planning a rehab for Big Thunder Mountain as well… one that would increase ride capacity. The last time I heard about a plan to increase ride capacity on Big Thunder Mountain however, the plan was to remove the faux locomotive car from the front of the train and replace it with an extra passenger car. It would be kind of sad to see the locomotives removed, but this seems to be where Disney’s design end has been thinking as of late, as the new Big Grizzly Mountain coaster in Hong Kong was built without a locomotive lead car.

Has anybody else heard about this? To to me it seems really silly as Space Mountain was rougher than Indiana Jones. I would rather have them close down Indiana Jones and re track SM.

I don't think there is another topic on this (I did a quick search).

A lot of the time the Disney rehabs have a lot to do with updating the theming, tidying up bits and pieces that have gotten old and stuff like that. I agree that Indiana Jones isn't rough, but they're hardly going to re-do Space Mountain when it so recently underwent a re-theme.

Would be better if they just tore down Indy and replaced it with the amazing dark ride they have at Disneyland, but that's never going to happen so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the fact that DLP are at least attempting to take care of their attractions.

^^Apparently Indiana Jones is being completely re - tracked though. If this is the case then I would have thought Disney could spend the money on more important things.

Did I really not make a topic about this? Gah. ok.

So the whole ride isn't being re-tracked, just the vertical loop. The loop is being re-done by Vekoma which means this coaster will now be one frankenstein monster of a cred (Vekoma is like the 4th manufacturer to be involved). All of the theming is being torn down and being replaced with real rockwork as the original theming was meant to only be temporary (considering it's lasted 20 years that's pretty awesome).

Rumours are speculating that during the changes being made they will be clearing a bit more room for that huge space next to the coaster which was originally intended for the dark ride. If you go on the train you can see a giant mass of empty land just waiting to be taken up by a large dark ride. Obviously these rumours are hinting that the dark ride or another ride (Splash Mountain) could appear in the next few years. I highly doubt it but if anything like that is built I'll be very happy.

I'm glad it's not being removed I love the ride now if goes forward :)

Would be great for another attraction in the area.

^^Thanks for the information. Do you know if they're getting new trains?
I'm also really happy about new theming as I always thought the ride needed it. As long as they add more theming (preferably the area, station, queue and helices), instead of just replacing the current work with more permanent stuff.

I've not heard anything about new trains. I think most of us fans want a bit more theming added (there was more planned in the original concept art) but I can't see it happening, it'll be expensive enough as it is for the current stuff to be re-done.

For those interested, the film and photography shop on Main Street is now closed forever and is being transformed into a new store, they haven't revealed what yet.

In April/May time the park will apparently have a spring festival with lots of flowers and that everywhere, will be interesting to see a new seasonal festival event.

And Marc, I agree, I really enjoy the ride, the loop is so forceful.

I really don't think this was necessary? I rode this over new year and it was running really well and the themeing didn't even look bad.

As for a Vekoma loop? Noooooo, I love the current B&M one with the roar!

I'd love it if the bit of land next to the coaster was used for another attraction though and those rumours were true. It's actually a really big plot.

^It might not look bad but apparently the structure was close to falling down! Best to sort these things out before things get too bad.

So how many creds is it now? :p

Bloody thing being shut when I go though. I've only ever done it backwards :(

I don't care about rebuilds as long as those props from Dinotopia are still on the tram tour. That's the important thing.

^ The tram tour is in a very sorry state indeed. Loads of the doors didn't work on the trams meaning the trams were going round half empty with an hour long queue. Loads of the screens in the trams didn't work so you just had audio which didn't make much sense and loads of the effects on catastrophe canyon weren't working. But yes the Dinotopia props are still there

Oh really! Thought it had to be something like this knowing the budget DLP has they wouldn't do something as drastic as this unless it was really necessary, sounds like it was well overdue as well.

What theming it had was good, but there were a few blank spots so an update is welcomed. And So going by RCDB its pretty much going to be a new coaster..?

I visited DLP earlier this month for the first time in a few years and its good to see the place looking so good. Shame that the merchandise selection has got really poor, even the World of Disney sold the same stuff that you can get all over the resort.

Really, that's odd that rcdb is claiming that considering the park told fans it's just the loop getting re-tracked.

Thing is, they dont really 'claim' anything on RCDB. whilst it's nothing official, they dont tend to put stuff up unless its a dead cert.

Bit odd BTM Is being refurbed? It was only a year ago all of the rockwork and scenery was re-furbed and re-painted... hmmmm. Interior work is always welcomed, of course.

Indy, however can rot. Hate it. Haha <//3
