What's new

Incredible Hulk - new credit or no credit?

I'm gonna say no until I ride it a few years down the line. Then, it clearly will be a new cred.

I think the difference with this and the Blackpool woodies is that Hulk has been completely replaced all at once. The woodies have had pieces replaced slowly over many years for maintenance, and you can't exactly be sure that every single piece has been replaced.

New cred, everything has been replaced at exactly the same time.
It's just the same as Plopsa removing Viktor's Race and putting the exact same model in again. Pretty sure that's a new cred, Hulk is too.

I can pretty much guarantee that every piece of the Blackpool woodies and the Scenic have been replaced since 1980 say. The Scenic and Nash have both suffered a lot of fire damage.

Big Dipper even had the layout changed to accommodate Infusion. New cred?

What about Stampida and Thunder Coaster? Both had major retracking/train changes that drastically altered the ride experience.

See, it's really not so simple. The Hulk's footers remain, so if the track follows the same layout, it hasn't all been replaced...

And counting a replacement coaster on the same site - that's just the lowest ;)

Seriously, I can understand why people would count it again; people desperate and lonely, with just their lice for company on the long cold dark evenings. It's understandable really. However, the question was asked for advice on if it should be counted twice and everyone needs food for thought :)

^Actually, some of the footers- mainly the ones in the lagoon- were replaced.

For BD, I'd say it's the same cred due to Infusion. It wasn't a complete layout overhaul. One or two new/different elements out of 15+ doesn't really change the entire layout.

See, you're already having to compromise on your rules for this... Shows that you don't have conviction in this decision ;)

Yeah, I would have counted Scenic again if I had ridden the original - it's why I'm finding their claim of 'oldest' coaster in the UK a bit misleading.

I know that Bpool's have eventually all been replaced over time but that's different to me. That's more like performing plastic surgery whereas this is like killing off the original and replacing it with a replicant.

With the Blackpool woodies, replacing a plank of wood is inconsequential. The new plank becomes part of the old structure. But with this, the entire structure has been replaced, leaving no old structure behind for the new track to blend in with.

But surely over 30 years. The entire ride and the ride experience has changed dramatically?

I'm not saying The Hulk will rise the same, but I'd the basic claim is "all track replaced, different experience" then you have to extend that to every possibility.

if you watch the original 1977 Star Wars, then watch the 1997 (or 2004) special edition versions - how many films have you seen?

if you watch Hitchcock's Psycho and then watch Gus Van Sant's 1998 version (which is a shot-for-shot remake not just a remake) - how many films have you seen?

</just sayin'>

I'm not entirely sure what side of the fence you're arguing for, but, I would say...

A. One. You've watched different versions of the same film (same cred)

B. Two. You've watched different films that just happen to be copies (different cred)

Agreed ; so new Hulk is new coaster, changes to Blackpool woodies are not.

(was really just trolling Phil tho' to be honest ;-) )

In this situation though, isn't The Hulk more like watching Star Wars on film and then on vhs. Identical, only the medium is different.

This is "Hulk Remastered", not a Hulk remake. The elements are the actors, the track the medium. So it's not akin to Psycho.

Oh, and thanks Ben for supporting not counting clones. That's surprise of the day ;)

No the unchanged elements are the supports / the script, the shooting directions, the edit (the same in both Psychos), the track and the train are all new as are the actors...

(I like "Hulk Remastered", but "Hulk Reboot" is more like it ;-) )

Huh?

A clone would be point B, which I've said counts xD

So how does one Big Apple differ from another like the
Psycho remake (different actors, etc.)?

Take two Big Apples (same age, colour, etc.) and put them next to each other - can you tell which one came from which park? No, they'd be like watching Star Wars on DVD and Blu-ray. Same film and everything, just really minor differences.

To say what you meant "different versions of the same ride (same cred)" :p
