The pronunciation of the word within the United Kingdom varies. According to one academic study, two-thirds of the British population pronounce it /ˈskɒn/, rhyming with "con" and "John", with the preference rising to 99% in the Scottish population. The rest pronounce it /ˈskoʊn/, rhyming with "cone" and "Joan".

^To slightly mis-quote Oscar Wilde...

"To disagree with two-thirds of the British public is one of the first requisites of sanity"

"Scone" as in "bone".

I heard years ago (and it's still about, but could be an urban myth) that the Queen says "Scon" (or scorn). The reason Southerners say "Scown" is because Victorian working class rabble used to make words sound "posh" and anyone who says it like that is a commoner stuck up their own arse - or so I hear ;)

I say "scon" because I'm Northern, I also say gon and shon. But I also say lown and bown

I think the only truth is that the only time it should ever be scoon is if you're referring in any way to the Scottish village :)
