How do you get the most air time?

We all love air time. If you don't, go try it some more. Unfortunately, almost none of the coasters in my count have a substantial amount of airtime, but I will be riding some next year that do have a legitimate amount. My question is: what do you do to get the best air time on a coaster?

For steel, in the back with just that little bit extra amount of room.

Oddly, stapling myself sometimes make airtime feel a bit more extreme than normal.

Try not to get stapled by the restraints, and then just sit however's most comfortable for you.

Hurrah for noobish questions, but how do I do this?! Every ride I've ever been on, EUEUURGGHH MY PELVIS!

You can always just use your hands to hold the restraint in place so it doesn't ratchet down during high-G moments. I do this pretty often, actually. Putting your hands up is fun & all, but it's kind of overrated. It doesn't add nearly as much to the coaster experience as a more airtime-conducive restraint placement does.

There's nothing you can do to get "More" airtime besides sitting further forwards or backwards in the train. You still get the same no matter if you loosen your restraint or not, it's just a more heightened sense of "****, That's strong airtime" if you're in a looser restraint.

Another way to not staple yourself is to slide your butt forward then bring down the restraint. Once the train leaves the station the restraint should be locked so slide your butt back to where you would normally sit and enjoy your nice roomy space between you and the restraint

I always avoid being stapled by putting it a couple inches off, making a big show of adjusting the belts so the ride ops know that I know what I'm doing and don't touch it, and I always make sure to not lean on it during the actual ride, especially on Intamin's stuff.

OK, What you wanna do is, you really have to get a feel for the ride. Lets take Nitro for exampe, what you wanna do on that is you gotta sit in the back row you know, and you have to put the restraint just at the yellow line and then you get loats of floater on every hill you know. just remember to hold on inbetween the drops right other whys your restraint will close and you lose all that floater you know but if you follow my advice you gunna get air time all the time you know and you're gunna love it. [/loving poke at ECG]

Nah - in the front for hypers. That's the most important lesson I learnt in the US this year - that it isn't always 'back row for airtime'. Both Nitro and Sahambhala I thought had nice floater in the back, but it was the front row that really grabbed me by the balls and tried to throw me out.

General rule though back or front, and try to get the lab bar on as few a clicks as you feel is safe :D

Depends on the ride, B & M hypers ride at the extremes of the train (some are definitely better in back (Apollo) and get the restraint as loose as possible. On some Intamins (MF and such) I'd go for a medium gap (~1") and the rest I try to tighten the restraint as much as possible because the airtime is so crazy (I'm looking at you Skyrush). For all of these holding the restraint in high g parts of the ride to maintain the gap and prevent being stapled.

I suppose I should encourage safe riding on coasters, but meh.

The Voyage has the most airtime of any wooden coaster - 24.3 seconds - ride that on "one click" in the back row. Sorted.

^ Second to last row, when I rode in August I though I was going to have a concussion during the second half when riding in the 2nd row of any car.

Get in the second to last row on Balder or El Toro and give yourself a bit of room with that restraint. :)

Oh yeah and I forgot, lean forward so it looks like you're fatter when the person trys to push your restraint down so you don't get stapled. :D

Unless you're on Balder and the ride ops name is Helga. I n which case she will notice and she will pin you so hard you can't breathe!
