Very much same. There's only so much speculation can give us. At least the picture is definitive proof it was a change made after opening.
 
Great research! Probably my favorite thing to do with coasters (besides riding them) is reading through old articles and such. Whether it operated or not, it’s interesting that they had to cut the support. And it’s cool that the engineers rode without seatbelts!
