I'm still not a fan of the exterior from the photos I've seen, especially with it being the backdrop to other areas. Still excited about the interior though.
These are from 5 minutes ago. From farther away it doesn't look as good, but when you get closer there is a lot more detail that seems to have been missed from other pictures I've seen. Maybe it's just one of those things you have to see in person, but it's not that bad looking.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I actually love the final design. I was there yesterday, and it looks fantastic in real life. It isn't an eye sore and has tons of little details that help it. Overall, I even prefer the look to the original (never loved the look they chose). I'm quite excited for the new ride now. I took some pictures, but I really think Tom covered it.
I hope some of those creatures in the boxes are animatronics, that'd be neat. I think it looks cool, sort of what I was expecting. Intrigued as to what the entrance hall and library looks like now.
EDIT: Sounds like the image is actually from the entrance hall, not the boiler room.
Hmm, it looks ok I suppose. Not quite sure it'll match the suspense of the origninal. And I see that one of the ride cycles features music by Elvis Presley. I don't remember that from the film at all, I thought it was all 80s music. Can't stand Elvis.
Looking at videos on YouTube, I must admit I think the queue looks rather good, though no better or worse than before. The ride itself looks like a massive downgrade though. Corny music and uninspired screens.
While I still think the original looks superior in just about every way, this looks incredibly well done. It just looks like simple fun. While I do wish Guardians of the Galaxy hadn't taken over the tower in CA Adv (especially since it really ruins the look and flow of the park. Seeing that pipe lined gash building from Buena Vista Street isn't as nice as the ornate Hollywood Tower Hotel), I think this is just about as good as Disney could have done with this makeover. I especially love the preshow which has that just amazing Rocket Racoon animatronic. A solid looking ride overall. Although I am afraid in about 10 years time, GotG will be pretty irrelevant, but that is a problem for another day.
So I rode it today. Holy **** it was awesome. As a fan of the original, it was never a must ride for me. This however, is. The drop sequence happens more, the story is hilarious, and it's just a blast.
Behind Radiator Springs, it's the best non coaster at the park.
