Lovely warm welcome that made me smile!

It's not your typical theme park experience. It's an "eco-park". There are no fairground style rides and flashing lights here. It's all about being carbon free. All of the attractions are "natural" rides.

The only CRED, Green Dragon.
greenwood3.jpg

The lift hill is people powered! Riders walk up loads of steps to an enclosed platform.
greenwood4.jpg

The riders weight makes the platform lower causing the platform with the train to rise up.

The ride is pretty average, but it's a good family coaster.

Fab Magician!

If you take theme parks too seriously then you won't enjoy Greenwood. If you're willing to have a silly day out and you're with the right group of people, then you'll love it.

It's of the most unique parks that I've ever visited. It was low on thrills, but high on fun.

Despite it being an "eco-park" and having a low carbon footprint, I still had to drive 300 miles to get home afterwards

I'll let the other attendees fill in the blanks. I'll post a video of the CRED when I get round to editing it.

Looks like a cute little park and I'm glad you had fun!

I'm no eco-hippy or carbon-monster, but something seems a little weird about their stats. I understand it takes more energy to run a park with more guests, but they used quite a lot more electric and water and just a bit more gas in 2007 than they did in 2005. Might just be me misinterpreting the numbers, but it seems a little... convenient.

We almost killed two ride-ops and I got to be Debbie McGee. <3

You absolute legend. You can tell from the video the massive stage of regret using you ;)

The Magician wanted Ed's babies.

Here is the story of the ride-ops.

Me, Maddie, Richard Jordan and Will were first onto the boat ride, where upon Richard decided to commandeer the vessel with the paddle, only to discover that paddling on the left side of the boat when you're trying to turn left doesn't really work. So we shifted sides halfway through and were underway, except the rest of us conspired to turn the boat around by grabbing the ropes.

After a rather dull first lap we decided to go again, this time pulling ourselves along the riverbank to obtain vast speeds, however we caught up with a young lady and three younger children who were moving at a snails pace. We decided to help them along and pushed them around the track, a little girl in the boat decided to grab a rope as it went past but didn't want to let go and as the pace was quite fast she was swept off her seat and landed on the bottom of the boat <3

Still going strong we neared the station and didn't show any signs of slowing, or knowing where we were going (<3), one of the ride operators was steadying a boat in the station with a giant pole/hook combination so people could disembark. He was so well attached to the boat that when the convoy of us and the infront family arrived at quite a pelt we slammed into the back of the boat and sent it and him flying forwards.

Cue ride-op trying to keep control of the boat and going straight on his arse. At this point we the 5 of us were in utter hysterics. I didn't see it from the boat but apparently another op went over to see if he was ok and also fell over. It was one of many times this weekend where I was crying with laughter, with a slight pang of guilt thrown into the mix to make it even funnier.

So ends the story of the ride ops.

The result of my hard work.

I sent Greenwood an email earlier to alert them of the video and thank them for their fab hospitality.

I got a reply from the co-owner.

Good afternoon Ian

Thank you for your kind email - it was a pleasure to welcome you all to Greenwood - such a fun bunch of people.

I've just taken a look at the video - it's absolutely fantastic, we are all delighted.

I will of course pass on your compliments to Howard, he thought Ed was the perfect helper!!

<3

Green Dragon isn't a coaster as it isn't a complete circuit nor do you ride it as it goes up. ;)

Nah. Looks like a nice place. I like unique stuff like this place it's usually much more fun and relaxed than some of the big parks.

After driving through deepest darkest Wales whilst only listening to the Welsh artists on Ian's iPod (that'll be Stereophonics, Manics and Tom Jones, then! haha) and having an argument with SatNav, we eventually arrived at the park. It had one of those gravel car parks marked out with bits of blue rope that all parks of a certain size seem to have! (See: Dennlys and Milky Way, amongst others)

We walked through to the entrance and were greeted by the amazing sign of amazingness, only made better by having IanFromCoasterForce stood next to it!

I did my NicFromCoasterForce bit and met Mark from the park (ha! that rhymes!) He kindly let us into the cafe out of the rain while we waited for the CarOfBurden to arrive. Best part of an hour later, we finally made it out into the park.

First stop was the Funicular CRED!

(Actually, I hate to say it, but Ollie has a point about it not going up - means its no more of a cred than 'CRED De Atlantide', surely?!) The coaster is actually fab. So much more forceful than I expected of a kiddie/family coaster. It's actually really quite fast, plus the way it goes through the trees is excellent. Much better than expected! After riding it.... we did it again obviously! I love the funicular element, but 2 rides in a row means walking up a steep hill 4 times in quick succession, which wasn't much fun!

Next up were the mat slide thingies. Imagine an astroglide, but made out of a kind of astroturf/dry ski slope type material, and instead of a mat, you sit in a plastic sledge to slide down. It was fun because about halfway down it started to feel really out of control. I was panicing about having friction burn holes in the arse of my jeans though! haha! Oh plus, as with pretty much everything at this park, riding meant trekking up another MASSIVE hill.

Oh look, there's a sign that says tree house... let's climb up and have a look... oh, wait! I've just walked up a hill, round in a circle and back down again. Great.

Oh look, there's another massive steep hill! Let's walk up it and see where it goes! Oooooh, den demolishing!

(I stood WELL out of the way! sue always manages to injure me when she's empty handed, and she was careering around with a massive stick like a baddie in Star Wars)

We walked past the "Zip Wire of DEATH!" (making a selection of CF-typical incredibly tasteless jokes <3) then... oh look... down a big hill in a big circle back to where we started! argh!

We then found the big climbing frame thing with the slides. I couldn't be bothered, so instead had a quick go on the "disabled slide" then sat and watched. By this point it was nearly 1pm and we were right by the theatre where a magic show was about to start. After doing my best to persuade Ian, we eventually decided to go and watch it, and I'm so glad we did! haha! We took our seats in the "fully air conditioned theatre"

Whilst waiting for the show to start, we noticed that we were all sat with our legs crossed in the same way. This is what happened next...

As you've seen by now, Ed got pulled up to help, and it was hilarious. (PS. way to go stealing the centrepiece of my PTR, bitch! ;) Yes, that's my video btw!)

The magician, Howard Hughes, was really entertaining. Really took me back to sitting cross-legged on the floor of a friend's conservatory at a birthday party when I was about 6 years old! hehe!

I think we went for lunch after that at the cafe by the entrance. The food was pretty good really, although the wasp infestation made eating it a bit hazardous. mind you, there was this one Dad of a family in there who we dubbed "The Wasp Ninja" because he must've killed about 15 with a rolled up park map whilst we were sat there!

After lunch, we went and did the barefoot trail. I say 'we' but in reality, there's no way you'd get me on that! (The sign discouraged people with arthritis from doing it - that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!) Seriously though, who on EARTH thought that was a good idea?! In case you can't work it out from the name, the barefoot trail is a pathway through the forest that you must walk along with bare feet. It consists of a number of different surfaces such as sand, painful looking cobbles, straw covered manure and razor sharp slate chippings. Seriously WHY would you do that?! WHY??!!!! Even Will didn't approve FFS! Here's some photos of people with sore feet...

296794_10150285116241025_510281024_7987999_3088962_n.jpg

From there we did the crocodile maze. It's alright, but would be better if it was a bit more over-grown

Then, guess what, we walked up a massive hill, round in a big circle and ended up back where we started! We then went and did the boats. These were a nice and unusual idea, although the channel could've done with being a little wider in places.

After that we did archery. Believe it or not, the most clumsy, most burdenous CFer of the lot won - Burdenous_Sue! Her prize? Ian's dead cigarette lighter! haha Whilst waiting for everyone to finish, BridgeForce went planking on a bridge

311645_10150285118101025_510281024_7988024_6304850_n.jpg

We then found stilts...

So that pretty much brought our visit to an end. It's a lovely park with a fantastic atmosphere. A real family vibe and a lot of fun. If I had to compare it to anywhere, I'd say it was pretty similar to Robin Hill on the IoW, but much better. Thanks to Mark, Howard and all the team at Greenwood for making our day just that bit more memorable <3

StoneCold mentioned that 'that place with the stupidly long name' was only 10 mins up the road, so most of us popped in there on the way home...

Bonkers.

I'm always right. :p

It's like waiting for a coaster to get to the top of the lift-hill then shouting "HOLD IT!". Then running up to the top getting in and then going off. But on this one it's not even a complete circuit either so shame on you if you counted it. ;)

ET is more of a cred. :p

Shuttles also aren't a complete circuit. Also hope you don't count Big Dipper at Blackpool, as you never complete an entire circuit :p

Anyway, Greenwood. So glad you had an awesome time there, I adored the park when I went back in 2006/7 or whenever it was. Reading Nic's report brought back all the memories of the place (especially all the hills  ), so it was fantastic to pour over.

I'll have to get myself back there again soon, I love special little parks like this :)

How cute!

I really enjoyed Greenwood. I usually go to these types of parks with family, and though I love my family, it was a breath of fresh air to be able to goof around with fellow CoasterForcers! Obviously as far as thrill rides go it wasn't spectacular, but that is not what the park is about. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and thought they had a lot of fun, unique things to do. The coaster was also good fun! I have pictures on Facebook but I'll post them up here eventually.

What!!?!?! Aha! I know the magician! And you visited my village!?! I work in the Co-op next door to Pringles!

I can't believe you were there and I had no clue about it! GAH!
