GhostRider revamp at Knott's Berry Farm

Why would they need to make any changes to such an excellent layout? This was always meant to be a restoration (like Boulder Dash), not an RMC.

^Because this layout isn't excellent, but could be with some tweaks.

Boulder Dash actually has an excellent layout.

Okay, sio maybe it's not excellent by today's standards, but it's still a good ride that I'm glad the park is preserving. I think Knott's should be commended for keeping this ride the way the Knotts family intended it, instead of trying (and probably failing) to modernize it.

I still think it's an awesome layout btw.

Want something more extreme? Then build another coaster. Ghost rider just needs to be a fun, smoother experience.

I'm not saying go completely crazy but why not just lower some of the hills and turns?

Keep it the same ride, but a better version of itself.

It's a bit like what the Kochs did with Rampage where they've lowered bits here and there and now it's a fab version of itself.

Complain all you want, but a definite improvement and I'm actually looking forward to riding it now.

A point of clarification: Knott's was sold to Cedar Fair in 1997, and Ghostrider was built in 1998 (along with Supreme Scream). In this way, Ghostrider is counted as a part of the Cedar Fair era for the park.

Any TLC to Ghostrider is a good thing. While it would have been nice to even have minor reprofile of some of the turns, this is ultimately a good project. Especially since they have now removed the MCBR.

Yeah I'm not saying they shouldn't have bothered but with a little extra thought they could have really improved it without spending too much.

Sorry if pointing the obvious out is 'complaining' didn't realise we were meant to not want parks to be the best they can be.

^Others also stated that they could have done more to improve the ride and although my post came directly after yours, I wasn't trying to single you out.

So a bit of a bump, I rode this today as schools are back in session.

It is so much smoother now, quite enjoyable actually. They did lose two rows which causes some issues in the station with where you enter, but if you have a brain you are fine.

It felt tame though. I was near the back, and out of the mid course turnaround, it used to have some nice airtime, but it just wasn't there as much. Definitely a nice pop, but not sustained.

I have one massive problem though. YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REPROFILE THE HELIX AND YOU DON'T **** DO IT! Like, why? It would be so much better with it properly banked, it's just too much. Also, the turn after the mid course would've been epic if they reprofile it to 90, or at least got rid of the extreme lats.

With that, there is still some signs of shuffling in the turnaround after the drop, but it is infinitely better than what it was before, just not what it could be.

A new article from the LA Times reveals Knott's entertained a bid from RMC for the GhostRider revamp, but decided to stick with GCI to provide a more traditional wooden coaster feel. The park was also concerned a RMC treatment would be seen as copycatting SFMM's recent RMC conversion of Colossus.

LA Times said:
Knott’s in Buena Park spruced up the 1998 GhostRider wooden coaster this summer with a makeover by Pennsylvania-based Great Coasters International. Knott’s entertained a bid from Rocky Mountain, park officials told me, but ultimately went with GCI’s less expensive and more traditional approach. The family-oriented park did not want to be seen as trying to keep up with the thrill-focused Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, which gave its Colossus coaster a Rocky Mountain makeover in 2015.
