Flooding at Hersheypark has taken lives of zoo animals

That's such bad news.

I don't care if people lose their lives in floods, but animals just make me sad. Yes, anyone wanting to rant at me can, I don't give a ****! :)

I know what you mean Lofty... Kind of...

If there's a flood in the wild (or a bush fire or whatever) and the habitat for animals is destroyed and animals die - then it's kind of sad, but it doesn't really register as it's just "part of nature". There's as much animal life killed when you mow the lawn I'm sure.

For me, humans in a flooded/earthquake torn/volcano engulfed city are like those animals. They're victims of nature in the habitat they have chosen. It's not the people's fault this has happened to them, and the destruction and loss of life is so huge that it's hard to comprehend.

However, animals trapped in a zoon, are literally that. The animals are deliberately cages to stop them from getting out. Their death is the direct result of human interaction and our desire to view them. They have essentially died because we wish the pleasure of seeing the animals.

This isn't an animal rights thing by the way, I enjoy zoos and I think that they form an excellent function in terms of education and breeding. It's just trying to explain why death of animals in this way saddens me.

I loved Zoo fo America when I visited Hershey, and this is a real blow to the park. I can imagine the keeps are feeling pretty bloody miserable right now too. It's such a shame :(

I find I do care some about people, but animals are worse for me. That picture of the bison= :(
That is just sad.

^^ It was because they were drowning and were suffering, so they put them out of that misery and killed them quick and painlessly.

I don't know. I do not think: "OOH. Lots of z's. Hmmm. That must mean sarcasim."

Seriously. Who even thinks that? And emoticons are very handy.

Anyone who wasn't dropped on their head as a child?

Everyone else in this entire thread, except you?

^Quiet Ben. It was sarcasm yes, he misunderstood it. It's not the first time it's happened. Chill.

^How come?

I'm sure people don't expect them to be able to control the weather.

Well, I wouldn't like to be a young child in hersheypark and finding out that half the animals had died...
