Flat ride tournament

^But you really can't have a flat ride tournament without any German fair rides or leaving out singular park rides like Vertigo at Tivoli Gardens or Sledge Hammer at Canada's Wonderland. Plus if you go by the minimum requirement of four CFers who have to have ridden a ride (as was done with the Best Park Tournament) then it would leave out most of the great German fair flat rides as well as your beloved King Kong ride.
Yep, that's why I said have a miscellaneous section (so I can enter King Kong <3 on aesthetics alone), so why not have a "Travelling Fair" category too?

If somebody is willing to make a topic on CF to engage members then I'm not going to poo-poo the idea but encourage them to do so by suggesting alternative ways.

I don't have an issue supporting this, so...

Could everyone please, if you wish to partake, list your flat rides here and insanecoastervids will sort them out into seedings.

If we could just only post in this topic with the lists, and nothing else? I'll get mine up as soon as I can.

Is this a list of all the flat rides you've been on (that you can remember) or just your favourite ones?

p.s....King Kong for the win :p

I'd say it's only fair if you list them all, or at least the ones which you would consider "important" or "major". So I'm cutting out the Rock'n'Tugs for instance (phew, that's eight off my list in one go).

Everyone knows Power Surge is king.

I've been to over 400 parks and I could never, ever make a flat rides list, and even if I could make a partial list, I'd never be able to list and compare 64 rides. I can see that flats have huge variation in how they spin and toss you about, but once on them, the experience isn't hugely different between many rides.

A dark ride tournament, OTOH... I can support that concept.

I think the problem with a dark ride tournament (at least in my opinion) is that it seems difficult to really get the feel for a dark ride without actually riding it. With the coaster tournament, even if you haven't ridden the coaster, you can watch a POV and get a general idea of what the coaster does. It's far from perfect, but you can give an educated guess to whether or not you will like a ride. On the other hand, dark rides seem so varied that it probably be hard to even get a remote idea of how much you like without riding it. A tournament would be cool, but I think it would be difficult to accurately rank and judge the rides.

I don't understand why we need a tournament. Why can't it just be a topic were people rank their top 10 flat rides or something?

I'm still working on my list, it's going to take months yet. I doubt if anyone else going to be able to get one out more rapidly. It's a huge amount of work for people to do, I may have already said this a few times...

I'll think about writing my list as soon as you start making posts with more than one sentence in and that actually contribute to the discussion going on.

Looking at your post history, this may take a while.

I said just list the major ones.

I can't do that though, as it would be unfair to minor rides which are completely awesome. I have at least three utterly incredible Afterburners in my list, and more which are dire. The incredible ones are minor rides are unheard of parks. The poor ones are major rides at big parks. I can't list the major ones, because they're **** I can't list the poor ones because they're "not major". That doesn't work, so it has to be every single one, and every single version of every single model has to be listed and calculated on how good it is.

Okay, I'm not going to list every Carousel I've been on, but things like Wave Swingers? The one at Chessington is fantastic, but I can't include that and miss out others. Or maybe I can, but first I need to list every single ride and then judge them on merit, but if you're going to ignore "Beach Party" at Coney Beach because it isn't "a major flat ride" - then how do I include Vortex at Thorpe which is the worst example of an Afterburner I've ever seen?

So all I can do is compile a list, and then work out if it's worth submitting or not. I don't have any answers yet. Will each individual model be judged on its own particular merits? Will all Enterprises be judged as a single common ride quality (for instance)?

If it's only "major rides", then I'm not bothering, as the major rides are usually the worst examples of type.

So I need answers really, but it's still going to take me months to just compile a list of every flat ride I've been on. I've got to research every park and check out the flats. Then I need remember if I've been on them and what quality they were and mark them down. I also need to work out if they're considered "major" or not too... Massive, massive, massive undertaking.

Mike, you're such a bitch! :D

The best flat ride I've been on is vertigo in Denmark and there is only one of them so that won't be on the list.

Okay cancel it off.

Really? I've spent 6 hours over the past 3 nights fruitlessly searching through all the flats I've ridden! All to find out you've now cancelled it!

What a complete waste of my time.
