First time at Portaventura

^ I prefer quality rides over good theming and atmosphere, the latter is a bonus. Looks like Liseburg is next on my hitlist though Europa still looks incredible

I'd do Europa before Liseberg because it's better, but both would be good choices for your next park. Keep in mind, you could combine Holiday park with Europa and then you'd have EGF under your belt as well. Liseberg is only superior in flat ride terms. I disagree with Thom about the water rides at Europa - they're fab; particularly because Fjord Rafting is now really fierce again <3. EP also has: a better variety of coasters, better operations (the best), better food, better theming, it's just the best park in the world!!

I really liked Europa but it definitely lacked soul. I just didn't get a connection with it whatsoever (hopefully that will change when I spend plenty of time there in Oct). I loved Silver Star and Blue Fire, really liked Wodan (mainly for the theming) and Eurosat. Aside from that all the rides ranged from decent to meh. When I rode the rapids it was one of the blandest I've done so far.

Liseberg however, managed to steal my heart. The atmosphere is unique, at night almost magical. It has far more thrill than Europa Park, some excellent coasters (Lisebergbanan is also <3), a great location on the hill-side in the middle of the city, two amazing water rides, friendly staff and its own character. And of course Helix. It is just one of the most pleasant parks to be.

I was very impressed with Europa when I visited, but it didn't have as strong of a lasting effect as Liseberg and Phantasialand had when the year(s) passed by.

You make a very good case here, I would love to ride EGF since Ive never rode an Intamin airtime machine and Ive heard pretty good things about it being number 1 on Mitch Hawker and all :)

^ It's ridiculously good. Better than Shambhala IMHO.

You see, I'm the opposite here. When I went to Liseberg last year, I realised that the park itself is actually quite meh. All the novelty about it being partly on a hill-side seemed to have worn off and I realised that I was only really enjoying the park for the rides (not that that's a bad thing). It didn't feel like it had much character anymore and that bugged me. Not saying it's a bad park, but if it wasn't for the great ride selection, I wouldn't rate it that highly.

On the other hand, I love everything about Europa Park. I think it has a great atmosphere (although, this concept is very subjective) and each area of the park is beautiful in its own right; whether it be the theming, natural beauty or actually the coasters themselves which paint the picture. There's no other park I've been to that can make the match the level of 'overall experience' that Europa provides, for the reasons I stated in my last post. It's almost perfection and I love the sophisticated image the park portrays. It's also operated and maintained miles better than 95% of theme parks I've been to and Mack understand the value of this; something that so many theme parks don't seem to grasp.

This gave me a great idea for a topic in general discussions!

I couldn't agree more, the attention to detail at EP is literally amazing. Even their manhole covers are themed. Also, the hotels are insane, if you can stretch to a night or two in one of the hotels it's 100% worth it.

MY FAVOURITE PLACE. EVER.

Great trip report, I LOVE Port Aventura, definitely one of my favourite parks, and that was even before Shambhala came on the scene.
I didn't see any mention of Templo del Fuego. Don't tell me you missed Templo del Fuego? Is it even there anymore?? One of the most over-looked and under-rated dark ride 'attractions' in Europe. You'll kick yourself if you missed it!

As for Europa Park, you should definitely consider that as your next park. I like it almost as much as PA, and I haven't been there for 9 yrs so I haven't ridden Blue Fire yet, let alone Wodan. It's a fantastic park, I spent 5 whole days there, staying in the Colloseum hotel and didn't get bored once, was still finding new attractions and shows on the 5th day!
And like others have already said, it's the most streamlined, efficient and smoothly run park you'll ever be likely to find, I mean like military precision, man! On the mine train, the time between the gate opening and the lapbars coming down is like 20 seconds, and then it's off! If you ain't in, tough! And the Silver Star? That thing devours queues like a hoover sucking up a piece of string. It's mental! A goon will love it.

Ain't been to Liseberg yet, but judging by the above comments, I most definitely should!
