The 20 year old wooden rollercoaster, Rattler, at Six Flags Fiesta Texas will close on August 5th.

Park officials announced yesterday (Monday July 9th) that the ride will close although did not say why. On the Six Flags Fiesta Texas website, riders are invited to "enjoy this Crackaxle Canyon landmark one last time before August 5 as we bid farewell to this Fiesta Texas icon."

It looks like it's closing for good. What will replace it?

When the ride opened it was the fastest and tallest wodden rollercoaster in the world. In 1994, the rides top speed was reduced from 73mph to 65mph (117kph to 105kph) and its first drop was shortened from 166ft to 124ft (51mtrs to 38mtrs) due to $3.54m spent on personal injury claim settlements. The Rattler was featured in the 1992 movie, Blank Check.

Wasn't it heavily rumoured to be getting the ol' Texas Giant treatment, or topper track at the very least?

Originally was the topper, but new rumors indicate the Iron Horse with a complete rebuild after the second drop.

From what I've read online, think it might have been Screamscape, I'll try and find it later, it's going to be remade, totally. The first drop is going to be how it originally was. RMC are meant to be completely rehabbing it, I hope that's true.

If the Rattler gets the Iron Horse treatment from RMC, do you think we'll see an inversion like on the Silver Dollar City project?

^^ Twas the Scape for Screaming. I believe a picture was with it from an interview with someone involved with this and showed a picture with 3 different style drops.

^ Honestly, Id expect a higher and steeper drop as they did with Texas Giant. Maybe some overbanks

This'll be an interesting one to follow, I hope they're not just scrapping it.

Really sounds like it's permanently closing, to be honest. I'd better see if I can make a trip down there, fast. Besides, it's a nice-looking park, I wanted to see it at least once anyways before I die!

It's getting Iron Horse. They might just change the name completely, or do something like Rattler Reborn.

RMC <3

I might be heading down to texas next year, so I hope that what ever they are doing, it will be finished by next year. I do hope it's gettig the iroon horse treatment though, as New Texas Giant looks amazing.

<3 the wobble on that track.

Maybe they'll put that new track topper on so it wont cause spinal damage AND they can bring the epic drop back to its original epicness.

Never ridden but from POVs they could really fix the ride up... like make that triple helix a little less agonizing and use the real life "smooth" button.
That coaster looks like an 11 year old designed it with RCT!

I wondered if this was that jelly coaster :(

Maybe thats why they're having to get rid?
Yeah it is. SO many videos of this thing shaking side to side, it's great to see!

From what I've heard, they're removing the trestle and adding the 'original' drop back in, which would be awesome as hell. Everybody who got the chance to ride the original said it was out of this world.

The Topper Track on rattlers second drop worked very well. It was the smoothest part of the whole ride. They need to give it this treatment. Fiesta Texas needs a new "Big Roller Coaster" one that can top superman, and if they go through with it It could be even better than texas giant.

RCCA built the Rattler. Is it nearing the end of it's physical service life?

Considering the track swings about 6 feet in either direction I would say yes. If this is getting the Rocky Mount treatment they're going to have to replace and reinforce a lot of wood...
