Goon of the Year
Does anyone remember the Fearsome 5 challenge at Alton Towers back in 1999? You had to ride the 5 'big' rides. They were Corkscrew, Black Hole, Ripsaw, Oblivion & Nemesis. I couldn't go when it was on, but my dad managed to get me the t-shirt.

I only just re-discovered this photo of me and my sister with me wearing said T-Shirt. (It was the slow start of me being a enthusiast!)

Yeah, and you had to get a card stamped to get the t-shirt. I *think* I was too small to go on everything, but I remember queuing at a tent at the end of the day with my family to claim our prizes ;]

I'm sure they done something like this recently (within the past 5 years), but it was more of a one day event or something.

^ Yeah recently they asked which was thier favourite coaster (out of 5)
-Nemesis (winner)
-Th13teen
-Air
-Rita
-Oblivion

^I know that happened, but it wasn't that, you had to ride all the 'big' attractions to win something. I know it happened, and it's really bugging me now what it was! :?

Ha! I remember this!

Only because I have a 1999 map of Alton Towers and it has it on it (which happens to be my oldest map too, just a bit of Bezz trivia for you there).

Did they give the T Shirt to you or could you just buy one if you wanted to?

^You had to collect five stamps, one for each of the five rides, which I believe someone waiting at the exit of the 'big 5' would be waiting to do, and then you exchanged your stamped card for a t-shirt. That's what I remember anyway.

^ I thought I remembered that. Pretty sweet that they would just give away t shirts like that. They wouldn't do anything like that nowadays.

The event was sponsored by Nestle's Lion Bar (which someone may have already mentioned) and continued until 2001, when it was renamed 'Roar' and for some bizarre reason, included Submission as the sixth ride.
Still got some marketing spiel about it on an old park map I just dug out - rather oddly, it always seems that the free t-shirt was replaced with a CD for 2001.
I always wanted to do the event, 2000 being the year I became obsessed with taking on 'the big rides', but mid-June was never an especially useful time for me at that age.
