What's new

Fantasy Island UK - Turning a new leaf for 2011?

On Saturday 29th October, FI will be putting on a fireworks/bonfire event. The rides will be open from 10am - 10pm and wristbands will cost £5 for all age groups.

Also, for weekends in December, leading upto to xmas, the park will be hosting Fantasy Wonderland where all indoor rides will be open and along with the usual xmas stuff, santa's grotto etc. Again, wristbands will be charged at £5.

Both events are a bargain at £5, and I hope it goes well for them.

I just gave FI a call today to check on ticket prices after reading about off peak wristbands on an older review. The park don't do the off peak rates anymore but they offered to send me a BOGOF voucher through the post which is valid until October.
If like me you still need the credit for any of their coasters it might be worth giving them a call. I also asked about JO, they said as expected that operation depends on the weather. I just hope that if I do make the trip and the weather holds up they actually do run it, even if it's only alternate hours as mentioned above.

^It's that risk that makes me not go at all to be honest. Apart from Lightwater, it's the only "major" UK park I haven't been to yet, but I can't justify the time and expense of going to the other side of the country and gambling that the rides will be open.

If I was in the area (though **** knows why I would be) then yeah, but at the moment? Just not happening.

I'm in two minds about it. It takes me two hours to get there, which I wouldn't mind if it was a safe bet. It annoys me that I live so close to it but I haven't been on JO because it's been shut every time i've been to the park (around 3 times.)

I drove 5 and a half hours each way to get to Oakwood, as knackering as it was, and costly as I had to stay overnight, i'd still do it again when they build something new because I know i'll enjoy my time there and the rides are going to be open unless there's something seriously wrong.

I live 1 hour away from Fantasy Island and upon my first trip there last year only to find out that JO was closed all say and Millennium would not open until 2pm, to say i way annoyed would be an understatement.
Though i tried again earlier this year and was rewarded with my JO credit. so perhaps it wont be so bad now, even if they are alternating them that's at least something, but i can understand that for those that have to make more of an effort to get there, might not bother because its too much of a gamble.

Essentially, I wouldn't bother going "for the cred" unless you go on a lovely weekend day in July or August.

There's a chance you may find it open on a weekend in May/June too (which is when we get our best weather), however that would depend on how busy the place was I guess. Essentially, anything outside a weekend and if the weather is anything other than "BBC say potential heatwave" then you're likely to miss out.

I wouldn't bother going to the area full stop though* :p

*actually, I had a fantastic week at Thorpe Park in Cleethorpes and I've had a couple of good long weekends at Butlins in Skegness. However, Ingoldmells is dire, one of the worst places I've been to after Rhyl.

I've been to fantasy island about 6 times and jubilee has been open everytime, so I guess im really lucky?

It's a shame so many of you don't have the credit, but it takes elements slowly as it is, moderate wind would make it high stall risk and I don't think you'd want to be stuck on one of its elements for ages.

It's been open a great deal this season. The park is an hour from me but I can understand people's reluctance to travel.

It definitely isn't worth the gamble, especially if you're travelling some distance, but they have improved 'her' operations a lot this year. Even when the place was dead, it had been raining for hours on end, she was still open.

If you turn and she closed, do just leave, as they may well be alternating her with the Millennium Coaster.

And I totally agree with Furie, Ingoldmess is dire, chav city. Its like a small Blackpool really, which is a shame, as I like Skeggy, I think its really nice, but Ingoldmells just down the road kinda gives it a bad name.

Allow me to 3rd that, Ingoldmells is a true crap hole. If JO weren't there i wouldn't go if you paid me too. I cannot stand all the tacky tattoo places or the market, the place even smells bad. Perhaps that's part of the "charm" but no, not for me. But again Skegness is cool its just Ingoldmells i don't really like.

My skin felt sticky after I visited Ingoldmells.

There are only three parks in the north-east bothering with imo - Flamingoland, Lightwater and Bottons. OMG, inverted apple coaster <3 I'd happily travel to Skeggy just for that. Well, perhaps not, but it is amazing. Every electric shock I get from it is like a mini-orgasm.

^ Its the Big Apple there thats just one big electric shock!

Crawling through that apple is worse than that electric shock tunnel they had in Saw Alive!

I love fantasy island, got here every Year. For 2012 The park have back in may "Just found" Submitted plans for a Splash pool area- Plans can be found at Fantasy island Quest all Credit to them !

Just been to FA today. Thankfully I was rewarded for the 2 hour drive with my long awaited Jubilee Oddyssey credit. The park were running all the attractions on the hourly cycle as mentioned earlier. It seems like a strange way of working the park but the coasters were all open. They have very short opening hours at the moment though, 12 - 4pm.
Also I noticed that contrary to the complaints about the standard of the toilets, the one I saw (inside the pyramid accross from Dragon Mountain) seemed to be kept clean and tidy.
I also called at Bottons on the way and managed to bag three extra credits, although Queen Bee was closed so it looks like i'm back where I started . . . sigh

I was there today! Did you see that guy who puked on Amazing Confusion? That was hilarious, he kept chucking up whilst the ride was in motion, and people were getting covered in it. I was on it and luckily I got away compltely clean, but some people actually had a face full of puke

Reminded me of this:

Eurgh, that's hilarious but disgusting at the same time

I didn't see it happen, I was on JO at the time but my partner pointed out people who got covered in it, sounds like you were very lucky!

I can't guarantee that I wouldn't be throwing up on Amazing Confusion, I love Huss Giant Frisbee's, but any flats that spin faster or hang you upside down get my stomach going.

Fantasy Mouse and Rockin Roller at Bottons provided more than enough spinning for me today!
