Fantasy Island UK - Turning a new leaf for 2011?

Sounds as if Fantasy Island may finallly be putting the effort into becoming a proper theme park. These are some comments taken from their Facebook page from the past week or so:

Fantasy Island Unfortunately there isn't any new rides however the Amazing Confusion is back. We have focused more on vastly improving our current rides etc for this year.

Fantasy Island BIG NEWS!!! from the 12th of march to the 3rd of April, there will be 20 rides open with the exclusion of The Oddysey, Millenium, Log Flume and The Confusion due to vast site improvements. However all wristbands between these dates will be an incredible HALF PRICE!!!

Fantasy Island The maintenance we have done to our major rides will enable us to open them everyday and through weather conditions we had to close them for last year.

Fantasy Island From the 3rd of April, all rides will then be open (opendates and times are shown in an image on facebook) and all day wristband prices will be £20 for an Adult, £10 for a child and free for 3 years and under.

Fantasy Island yes in comparison to previous years, extreme rides such as the odyysey will open a lot more and everyday the park is open from the 3rd of april.

Fantasy Island Thank you Steve, all your suggestions are in our plans for this year. Make sure you check out our new website going live next week!!!!

Fantasy Island Over the past year we have put extreme amounts of effort into giving customers a much better experiance in 2011! We now want to let everyone know that we are here! Therfore were asking you guys to share this page with all your friends by using the link at the bottom of our page. As a sign of appreciation to you fantasy...

And this was taken from a local newspaper;

The news comes as the park gears up for the new season after a busy refurbishment programme.
Among the changes over the winter have been the return of the Amazing Confusion, the newly improved Volcanic Eruption ride which stands 200feet tall, and a all new designed kids area.
The Jellikins indoor roller coaster has also been remodelled and the outdoor rides have all been weather-proofed, meaning many more will be able to stay open in the rain than ever before.

Also they're now offering annual passes, and weekly passes, as well as new website launching some time this week.

FI's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fantasy-I ... 0304759897

All sounds very promising...

Jellikins has been remodeled...

HAVE THEY REMOVED THE ROOF ON THE TRAINS SO ADULTS CAN RIDE?!?!?!

And kinda fab, I do need my creds still ugh...

Who do they get to write their updates? One of the pikey stall holders? That's **** ing atrocious for an "official" park source.

Call me a cynical old fart, but haven't we been hearing this for about four years now? Two years ago I went and nothing was open.

Last year people went and nothing was open.

So, you'll have to excuse me if I don't start leaping for joy over some bad English on a Facebook page telling me "they're getting better"...

To be honest, I dont think they've ever came out and said something like this.

I dont think anyone will believe what they're saying anyway, at least not yet. It is some claim to say that JO will be open every day (except in the most extreme weather conditions).

Another thing, they've removed the 'off peak' price, so its £20 every day, and at that price, they're going to need to have everything open to get people interested, but I cant see them opening JO on a quiet midweek day...

The management have also made it clear that they will not tollerate rides being closed unless due to unforseen circumstances and/or health & safety reasons. If this does happen they have hinted at some form of compensation which is yet to be agreed with the Head Office in London.

They appear to have happily tolerated it ;)

I can't agree more. If it's one thing that REALLY grates on me with Facebook Advertising is the fact that some companies don't bother and/or see it that important to have a professional outlook. It doesn't take much to actually punctuate or actually spell correctly now does it.

Also, I agree with Furie. I'm sure there was a similar article or something from last year saying the EXACT same. I'll admit, I've still never been to the park, I won't be in a rush to get there either when it comes down to their reliability.

I sort of want to go to FI but every time I hear stories like this, or ones about wind and other problems closing the best rides it sounds like a waste of time.

I'm my mind they come across as a expensive fair, not a theme park. I think it has potential to be good if they they can pull off some of the claims, especially keeping rides open.

I agree that the advertising is very un pro for a park trying to change their image.

Urgh I will never go back there again, the place is a dump. Luckily when I went everything was actually open AND I was small enough to ride Jellikins =D

They do seriously need to sort themselves out though, JO was a pretty high standard ride, I suppose.

Going back to this for a second... I know the park doesn't really derserve much (if any) credit, but in all fairness, since the new owners took over, the ride availability has improved a lot. Still not perfect, but it still a lot better than it was.

So it's up to all rides open 20% of the season rather than 15%?

Since that was written by Aly, I've heard nothing but just as many people complaining about downtime as before. Obviously it's different sitting three hours away and going on hearsay, I'll bet to those holidaying locally in the summer it's not bad. If you're there (in the area) for a week there's a good chance you'll be able to get a ride.

For most people making day trips, or there for shorter periods (I was there for three days in 2009 and not a single coaster ran all weekend).

So maybe they've made a massive improvement, but nobody knows because whenever people go for a day there, nothing seems to be running. It's not proof, but I don't want to drive three hours on the chance that they may have got a bit better this year than they were last year and maybe be open two days out of five in high summer, rather than two days in seven.

It's a real shame, apart from the fact it's the grottiest arsehole of a park I've ever been to it's got great rides. It's just it can only ever serve people who are local to it due to the large amount of down time they have. I don't know what the improvement is, but if they have downtime of a ride down at least once a week, then it's not good enough. How many other parks can you think of that may have downtime of a ride for more than once a week, week in week out while the park is open?

Okay, the weather may affect the coasters badly, but surely that is something that needs addressing? And are you really telling me MC is affected that much by wind?

They're self-fulfilling their own prophecies.

"We predict nobody will come to ride the coasters today, so we won't open them"
Next day:
"Nobody came yesterday to ride the coasters, so we won't open them today".
Next Year:
"Hardly anyone rode the coasters last year, so we need to operate them less to save money".

They say one thing, but nothing ever changes. Nobody is going to make that trip again on the off-chance that maybe this year they really do mean it and WILL open all the coasters, every day. I just really can't see it happening as it didn't happen in 2009 and it didn't happen in 2010.[/old fart]

I totally agree with you.

They have done better with opening the rides on quiter days, but the biggest problem I find is there lack of maintenance during the winter monthers.

EVERY year for the last few years, The Beast, Volcano, JO, Amazing confusion and Techno Jump have been closed for lenghty amounts of time (not weeks, months) for maintenance problems.

To me they seem to run a 'keep it open until breaks' routine, rather than replacing parts as they're wearing down (obviously I dont actually know what they do, but surely its not a coinsidence?).

I sincerely hope this is a new era for the park. Jubilee Odyssey is one of the UK's best rides and it deserves to be championed more.

OMFG. This looks like a yr7 ICT project...

Why don't they hire a professional to do the site? I don't get it!!

It 1997 all over again!!! Please tell me that is a joke? Comic Sans for your menu???

That is actually the worst website I've seen in over ten years. Well done Fantasy Island, your ride up time is no longer the worst thing about your park
